May Photos
I'm going to be posting the photos I took during my Sunday birthday drive, but I have these pics from May I wanted to share first.
1. May 12th was the 4th anniversary of my dad's death & after mom and I went to the cemetery we took a little drive over to one of our favorite beaches on Puget Sound. The water was very calm that afternoon, as you can see.

2. That dream house on the point that I'm so envious of.

3. Rusty chains wrapped around an old log.

4. Rusty spikes in another.

5. May 15th and our rhododendron was bursting with blooms and bees.

6. It was a fairly warm day and sunny, so I knew it was the right time to snap some photos.

7. I realize I take pics of it every year and it never really changes.

8. But that doesn't seem to stop me. :P Love this CU.

9. I like to backlight the flowers with the sun.

10. A nice wide shot to show you how big the rhody is compared to the house. I'm pretty sure it's the biggest one in the area.

11. A few blooms hadn't opened yet.

12. A very pretty single one.

13. These are at the very top.

14. Sorry if the pink color bleeds a bit. I tried to tone it down, but I see it's still pretty strong. And yes, it really is that color.

15. Here's evidence of what was all around the plant/tree....bees. They LOVE this thing when it blooms.

16. It was literally buzzing with all kinds of bees. They'd fly around me for a bit, but when they realized I wasn't a flower they flew back to the rhody.

17. Love getting the close-ups.

18. Two bees in this one. I wasn't afraid of them at all. If you don't bother them, they won't bother you.

19. I started centering my attention on the bees as they gathered that sweet nectar.

20. The timing had to be just right 'cause they didn't stay long inside the flowers.

21. There were some huge bumblebees, but they tended to stay near the top and not come down where I was.

22. One honeybee hard at work.

23. This one lingered quite a while.

24. One of my favorite shots 'cause you can even see it's eye. :)

25. A beautiful shot of the last flowers on our Bleeding Heart plant.

26. The neighborhood peacock. He's still here after some 5 or 6 years. You should see the folks who drive through, see him, then stop and take photos! I even saw a garbage truck driver back up the truck to snap a pic w/his iPhone!

27. This fellow is a sad little tale. One morning, mom & I noticed this baby bluejay sitting out on what we call our Snoopy rock in the backyard. He did a lot of sleeping and the parents only came down to feed him a tiny bit. We kept an eye on him, but he didn't do much.

28. Later on in the afternoon he came a little closer in the yard and I got some better shots of him.

29. As you can see, he's got barely any tail feathers to speak of.

30. This was really one of the rare times he was up and moving around a little. We kept hoping he would try to fly, but he never did.

31. By the next day he was even more still and by late afternoon we suspected he had died. That night we saw a raccoon in the backyard and by morning a little pile of feathers, so it looks like it ate the little bird. :( It was sad, but we think the parents must've suspected something was wrong with him from the start and maybe booted him out of the nest. Survival of the fittest and all that. Poor little guy...at least I have a few pics of him.

32. On May 29th, mom & I went to the Crossroads Mall in Bellevue where they were having a small Iris show.

33. They had all kinds and several lovely arranged pieces.

34. A pretty Japanese-style one.

35. There were also several long tables with various irises in bottles. Love the yellow!

36. Some of them were very large.

37. Pretty stripes.

38. Nice mix of colors.

39. I like the two-tone purple.

40. This pic is kinda dark, but I hope you can still see the color.

41. A close-up of a smaller one.

42. These last few shots were of the irises outside in the parking lot.

43. As you can see, it had rained earlier.

44. These striped ones were so small and low to the ground. Tough to get a picture of, but I got'em. ;)

45. Such a pretty color combination!
