My Review/Observations of Nightshifter
Here's my review at long last...along with 50 caps!
Again, I apologize for the lousy quality of the caps. But if anyone wants to use them for something, it would still be nice if you gave me credit. :)
Oh, and if you check out the names of any of the caps...I misslabeled them as "Shapeshifter" instead of "Nightshifter". Oooops! *g* That's what happens when you make caps in the wee hours of the morning, I guess.
So I hope you enjoy the mix of my thoughts on the episode, caps, and some of my favorite quotes (they're in bold). Happy reading and please leave me a comment if you can!
I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but we had another standout episode! It reminded me a lot of an X-Files episode, which I assume was the intended reaction they wanted us to have. We had the boys in costumes (yay!), an amusing (and not so crazy) protagonist, a mysterious supernatural element (shapeshifter), and a new character introduced who is going to be added to the list of people hunting for the Winchester brothers. There were brilliant pieces of comedy and moments of tragedy. And then to wrap everything up we get a super cool song at the end!
* How bizarre that we don't even get a "Now", the episode starts right in the middle of the "Then" segment at the beginning with "Breaking News". It was different and certainly got my attention.
* It was great seeing Dean flirting with a girl again! He even charms his way into getting her phone number! Our boy is back!
* I just have to say that Sammy's hair as an FBI agent...makes me giggle. It's just...so...wrong. LOL!
Dean: Freakin' cops!
Sam: They're just doing their job Dean.
Dean: No they're doing our job only they don't know it so they suck at it.
LOL! The Dean attitude is back!
* I totally love the boys being FBI agents! They are so Mulder & Scully! And when they simultaniously pressed their FBI badges up against the glass of Ron's front door...pure love! Wonder how many times they had to film that? *imagines this scene being in the blooper reel for S2 just like the shutting the car doors scene was for S1*
* Yay! The cast is gone, the cast is gone!!!!
* How cool is Ron? I liked the guy right away...shame he didn't last. *sniff* "Big Juan doll" LOL! "Mandroid" "He's got the laser eyes!" This guy is great! Even Dean acknowledges his brilliance at putting together what he did - even if he didn't know it was a shapeshifter. Ron is like a wild, crazy version of Mulder. I almost expected to see an "I Believe" poster on his walls along with all that other stuff!
* "I like him. He says okey dokey." Possibly my favorite line of the ep. Oh, Dean...you are adorable!
* Oh yeah...our skirt-chasing Dean is back in form! Heh. :) "Dean, we're supposed to be looking for eyes." "I'm gettin' there."
Dean: You said we shouldn't bring guns.
Sam: I didn't know this was going to happen, Dean.
Ron: Get on the floor! Now!
Dean: Okay we're doing that. Just don't shoot anybody, especially us.
Sam: We're not working for the Mandroid.
Ron: You shut up! I ain't talkin' to you! I don't like you!
*Dean's look at Sam is priceless!*
* Good thing Ron chose a man to frisk the boys. Just think if he'd chosen a woman to do that. Any red-blooded female would have a field day getting a chance to frisk the Winchester brothers. I know I would. Hee! :D
* Wouldn't you know Dean would have a weapon of some kind on him! Heehee! "I'm not just gonna walk in here naked!"
* *Happy Sigh* This why Dean is my hero. I love it when he's all take charge and offering himself as a hostage. *melts* I just realized I kind of sound like the fangirl gal who ends up locked in the vault with Sammy. "Who is that man?" "He's my brother." "He is so brave." LOL! And Sam's eye roll was perfect!
* Eeeewwwwww! Icky pile of skin! Dude! Ron, don't touch that stuff!?!?
* Alright, am I the only one who thought that police guy looked an awful lot like Mulder? The facial features are so similar! Spooky!
* LOL! Poor Sammy having to put up with a fangirl. I swear, she's there because Kripke loves us! Kripke rules!
* What is it with Sam's attitude? Dude has got a problem with Ron. Bad Sammy...no extra cookie for you! *just kidding* :P Seriously...I know he wants to get innocent people out of harm's way, but you've gotta work with the situation at hand. Dean clearly recognizes this.
* I'm so sad they killed Ron!!! He was such a likeable character, which is probably why they killed him off. It was cool how they slowed everything down and then dropped the audio except for the bullet hit and Ron falling to the floor. Jensen also did a great job of showing Dean's remorse over Ron's death.
* Why does Sam let Dean deal with the ill security guard? That means Dean is going to be seen by all the cops out front. Not exactly a good move considering the feds are looking for him. Seems to me Dean should have kept out of sight and gone after the shapeshifter instead of Sam. "We are so screwed." Heh. That seems to be the theme of the episode!
* I think Special Agent Hendrickson is a great addition to the show. Interesting how he refers to Dean as the Monster in the bank.
His phone conversation with Dean was great and scary, because clearly this man has done his homework on the Winchesters. This guy isn't just some run of the mill cop, he's going to be like Gordon...hunting them down wherever they go. He's is all business and doesn't mince words about his intention to catch Dean for his crimes. This was one of the best scenes of the ep.
Hendrickson: "And yes, I know about Sam too. Bonnie to your Clyde." ~ too cute! Sam really is Scully!
Dean: "You got no right talkin' about my dad like that. He was a hero." ~ Hendrickson really hits below the belt, and Dean feels it.
Jensen did an amazing job here...closing his eyes and pressing his hand to his face. He knows they're in big trouble.
Hendrickson: You don't know these Winchesters. They're dangerous, smart, and expertly trained.
~He really does know the boys!
* Great how they kept us (and even the boys) guessing about the shapeshifter until near the end. Good thing Sam thought things through. But what's with Dean getting his ass kicked twice by this thing already?
* Go Sammy! Taking out the SWAT team guys!
* The final fight between Dean & the shapeshifter is good. I saw they reused a move from a previous fight scene. They did that whole locking up the arms and then delivering the head-butt thing in the fight between Dean & Gordon in Bloodlust. But, oh man! Don't kick Dean there!!! Ouch! I like how they made it appear that Dean gets caught, too. Very sneaky!
* You knew they had to get out of the building somehow. It wasn't original (Ocean's Eleven, anyone?), but when you think about it, it was the only way. Besides, it gives us a chance to see the boys in yet another outfit! ;) I hope they keep those SWAT uniforms. You never know, they could come in handy someday. And the music for the end was uber cool and so fitting! "We are so screwed."
* On another note...notice how dirty the Impala was at the end? This fits in with the theory that the car is a reflection of Dean's psyche. Dean's feeling the strain of protecting Sam from turning evil and now they've got this FBI agent on their trail. Things just keep going from bad to worse for the Winchester brothers.
