I've been trying to keep this to myself for days now and I just can't any longer. It's the reason I was so busy over the weekend (and continue to be). So I'm sharing the news, with you, my lovely Flist. A warning though...it's kinda geeky. ;)

Shhhhhhh!
*looks around nervously*

We have a new TV!

*squeeeeeeeee* :D
*bounces*

An HDTV to be exact. I mentioned before how our old TV (12 yrs. old) had been showing signs of gasping its last breath by taking forever to produce a picture. Well, the new TV that my mom & I had been looking at for the past month went on sale last week and we decided to go ahead and jump into the world of digital TV. The change hasn't been without its problems, however, but I'll get to that shortly.

Please allow me to drool a little over the wonders of HDTV...Heehee!

After setting the new TV in place, hooking up the antenna (with some trial & error), and our DVD player...we were ready to turn the set on. It found all the channels right over the air with the antenna and WoW! What an amazing picture!!! After marveling over the extra channels and wonderous clarity, we decided to check out some DVDs.

Here's the list from that first evening's viewing (keep in mind that most of these we didn't watch all the way through):

- Neptune's Daughter (We had watched this on our old set just a few nights before)
- The King & I (Watched the whole film...it was like seeing it for the first time! I could finally see all the detail in the colorful costumes and catch the actor's expressions.)
- Gladiator (Russel Crowe slicing & dicing in the arena never looked so good!)
- Singing In The Rain (This was great looking even on the old TV...but it's even better now.)
- Supernatural (Checked out Disc 1. *Guh* Jared & Jensen in widescreen, big picture, digital glory! Outstanding! More on this in a sec....)

I also checked out some of our own DVD recordings from the TV. They were kinda ugly looking, but with enough tweaking of the settings on the TV, I was able to make them look fairly good. This TV has more controls on it than a 747! LOL! The next night I checked out more of our recordings and had better luck with the image quality. I even watched my recording off the air of "Croatoan" and "Hunted". Again, with some tweaking, the images looked good considering they were from an analog source.

Some brief notes about watching the SPN S1 Disc 1...

-- I never would have believed it...but I actually had to darken the picture!!!! LOL!!!! :P A few adjustments and the show had its trademark dark look, but not so much that you couldn't see what was going on. I finally got to see Dean crawl onto land after jumping off the bridge and into the river in the Pilot.
-- Could really see the color in their eyes....*le sigh*
-- Dean's closeups....*thud*...the man can make himself at home on my TV any day.
-- The sound was incredible! I even caught a few lines that I hadn't heard before!

And in honor of seeing SPN in such stunning visual detail, I give you a flash from the past...

Ahhhh, the boys. So young back then...only 3 years ago.

Btw, for the record...I honestly think Dean says "boots" when he's asked by the officer if he has anything that's real. Granted, him saying "boobs" is a much funnier line, but what are you gonna do?

Now, despite all my bouncing and excitement over this new technological wonder, there is one glaring problem. We can't record anything off the TV channels. Since we're getting the reception from only an indoor antenna, the regular analog stations look like crap. And all our equipment is only designed to pick up analog stations and not digital ones. Grrrrrr! So now we have to find another solution. Looks like a DVR is needed...probably a Tivo (although we won't be using the subscription service). I can only hope we get this taken care of by Thursday night and the rerun of SPN's "AHBL pt1". I'd love to get that recorded in HD! *hopes, prays*

If you've read this whole ramble to the end, thank you! I just couldn't keep it a secret anymore. Just had to shout it out to someone. So thanks so much for letting me spill. :) Now you know what's been taking up so much of my time and why my picspams are not happening this week. The new TV has kind of taken over...setting it up, learning how to use it, trying things out, etc. Thanks for listening to me squee...'cause it is kinda awesome!

Now I really can't wait to get my hands on the S2 DVDs!!!! Only 6 days left!!!! *squeeeeeee* :D
