Did anyone else get to watch this live yesterday? I thought I was going to miss it, but finally spotted where Misha was streaming it live on his youtube channel. So great to see Jensen & Jared there (in their respective Vancouver apartments, going thru their required quarantine before filming). Beards are still there and the flowing hair (loved the bit about them all riding the coattails of Jared's hair). Anyone else wonder if that was FB Beer Jensen was drinking? :P

There's a lot of caps here, but I did start with over 400. ;)

After the con in August, there's always a few days of Location Hunting and on our last day I was determined to make a trek to Deas Island to see Burrvilla House. It's been used 3 times by Supernatural.

Beyond the beautiful house, built in 1906, there's also a small wooden tower just across the way. I climbed to the top to get the nice view of the Fraser River, Richmond, and then Burnaby & New Westminster in the distance.

Btw, the Burrvilla House's attic is home to thousands of bats!!! :P

Here's a video I shot on my phone from the viewing tower:

Took a couple of photos, too. Not the best quality as they were taken with my phone.

Hello, all. Posting from my phone tonight in very smoky Vancouver! :D

What an exhausting, long day Wednesday was! Everthing was going wrong, we were way behind on packing and we didn't leave until very late. But we're here and that's what's important.

But because it's so late and I'm beat, there won't be any Just 'Cause post today. I'll try my best to keep up with my regular posts while I'm here, but I make no guarantees.

Btw, thanks for all the lovely comments on yesterday's cap! *hugs* Time for some sleep. Night! :D

The weather for the whole 6 days that I was in Vancouver was pretty cloudy and rainy. On Saturday there was some down time so I went outside and took some photos of the big cruise ship that was docked at the Convention Center along with across the water at North Vancouver (you can spot part of the Lion's Gate Bridge, too). There's also some photos of the "sails" of Canada Place (which is right there w/the Convention Center) and then it started raining so I ducked back inside. I did get a couple of shots of the inside of the Convention Center, where they had the registration and ticket sales for photo-ops/autographs. Very cool totem pole inside the building and interesting architecture.

The last 2 photos were taken out the window of our hotel (Carmana Plaza, about 6 to 7 blocks from the Convention Center). Buildings are going up all over Vancouver and the towering one pictured, I believe, is Trump Tower.

Big catch-up from last week, including last weekend's BurCon. Things will probably be a little quiet this week as the production is off for Thanksgiving until Dec. 1st.

Usual spoiler warnings apply, but I don't think there's many of them.

Added this in because this was the convention hotel for VanCon from the beginning until this August (2009-2014), but sadly, Creation is moving next year's con to the Convention Center. I will miss this hotel, even though I never stayed there. It's a beautiful building inside and out and I feel the Convention Center will pale in comparison. They did a cool look back at the creation and building of the hotel and I wanted to save the tweets. Unfortunately, the pics don't show up in Twitter, but you can click on the links.

It's been one hell of a week, but I'm finally here in my "2nd home", beautiful Vancouver, BC. :D

Got a late start, got slowed down in some traffic, then a 1/2 hour wait at the border, and arrived at the hotel far later than intended. I had to hurry to get to registration in time and then found out that they'd rescheduled it to begin even later...but luckily they started at around 7:30 instead of 8:00.

Was great to meet up again with old friends and a few new ones already. :)

Got my autograph and photo-op tickets all at once this time. Don't want to be rushing around buying tickets later on when panels are happening. ;)

I'll be taking photos with my smaller camera again (in addition to my regular Canon), to see if I can upload and share those quickly each night. Want to take lots of videos during karaoke, too.

Plus: Tickets for next year's con are only $10 more than last years.
Minus: They're moving the con to a different venue?!?!?! The friggin' Convention Centre??? WTH? This sucks out loud!!! >:[

Tomorrow is Rob Benedict, Lauren Tom, Osric Chau, Adam Rose, Dan Payne, and Chad Rook (yeah, I'm still trying to remember him, too), along with Gil McKinney!

Ok, I need to rest up, post today's Just 'Cause cap, and get some sleep.

On Monday the SPN crew reported back to work up in Vancouver and yesterday Jensen flew back into town to begin prepping the S10 episode he's going to direct. If it's like most seasons when he helmed an ep, it'll probably be 10x03 or 10x04. So very happy that Jensen is directing again. :)

Soon, Jared will be flying back to Van as well, filming will begin, and the boys will be back to work on another wonderful season. All will be right in the world again! I always miss them when they aren't "up north", since it's only 160-some miles away from me.

But OMG Jensen, really? You know I love it when you point. Ever since that episode still from 1x03 where you were pointing at something. Ok, maybe it's the hiatus scruff, too. Either way...*iz dead from hotness*

Meant to post this yesterday/last night, but I forgot. :P

Last month, mom & I made our hotel reservations late and sadly, were unable to get into our usual hotel. I've been lamenting it ever since. It simply wasn't going to be the same...not our usual "home away from home" room and restaurant that we've been in for the past 4 VanCons.

Mom told me to keep checking the Best Western Downtown Vancouver hotel anyway, to see if something might open up again. Sure enough, on Wednesday night a room became available! I couldn't believe it. So yesterday we called and reserved the room there.

It's a King sized bed, but we can totally share the bed and make it work. If it had been a Queen, maybe not so much, but a King should be just fine. 'Course it's also much more expensive than our usual 2 Doubles, but ah, well. We did put in a request for a room w/2 Double beds, should it become available by August, but I won't hold out much hope for it. At least now we'll be in our usual hotel and White Spot restaurant! Aaaaaahhhhh! I feel SO much better now! :D

For the past 4 VanCons mom & I have been staying at the Best Western Downtown Vancouver. It's on Granville & Drake streets and I'd walk the few blocks between it and the convention hotel, the Sheraton Wall Centre. The BW has sort of been our home-away-from-home. We were even able to get the exact same room for 3 of the 4 years. We like the White Spot restaurant on the ground floor and some of the servers there have remembered us from year to year.

This year that will not happen. :(

I kept telling mom we needed to call and reserve a room in April. Last year we got lucky when we booked a room in July. Cutting it way too close for me (again, thanks to mom's reluctance), but we did get a room albeit one floor above our usual room. So this year I again tried to convince mom we needed to call the hotel and get the reservation, but no. "We don't need to reserve a room this soon!" she kept telling me. So we waited and I got her to agree to at least call at the end of May.

We waited too long.
Several days ago I checked for the week we need in August and all the days were available except that Friday - the first day of the convention! Gah!!!!! Too late!

So I had to quickly try and find another hotel, which isn't as easy as you might think because my mom & I are not fancy-smancy hotel type people. So that rules out a lot of the hotels in downtown Vancouver - yet it had to be within walking distance to the con hotel. Luckily enough, there's another, slightly bigger Best Western further north on Granville Street, just a few blocks of our usual hotel. I checked it out and they still had rooms!

So we called this afternoon and booked a room. Phew! I don't know where we would have stayed if I hadn't found that other Best Western.

Here it is, the Best Western Chateau Granville.

It looks nice enough (Oooh, balconies) but I'm just so sad and disappointed (and honestly a little angry at my mom & her darned stubbornness). I love "our hotel": the rooms, the restaurant, the people, the views. Even the lobby smells of roses! *sigh* I'm thankful we have a place to stay, but yeah...not very happy about the new location.

I still need to fix and prep my main photos taken with my big Canon camera, but here are some pics taken with my new point & shoot camera: the Canon Powershot S110. My plan had been to post these each night during the con to give everyone a taste of what was going on, but the schedule was so packed that I didn't have any time. So you're getting them now. It's all good, right?

Please keep in mind that the photos from my other camera will be better than these. Thx. ;)

Talk about contrasting guests. LOL Felicia was amusing and sweet and Seb was wild and raunchy! Felicia answered a lot of questions about gaming, which went right over my head, but it was cool to find out her other interests (romance novel book club anyone?). It was very cool to find out the reason she was added to the con at the last minute was all Jensen & Jared's doing. They told her she HAD to attend and set it all up. Yay! boys!!! Seb, of course barely answered any questions. It was more like being part of a giant orgy. :P I know Seb's not everyone's cup of tea, but he's not all that bad either and once you meet him in photo-ops and during autographs you see a whole other side of him (which is quite different than his on stage persona).

One of the added benefits of being in Vancouver is that you get to hang out with so many of the crew members and a bunch of them were on hand Saturday. The big surprise was meeting one of the writers: Robbie Thompson! I'm sad I didn't get a chance to chat with Kevin Parks this time, but then there's always next year. *g* Russ Hamilton never disappoints in his panel, and it was neat for him to bring up his daughter to read the warning on his much protected notebook of locations. The other trio panel of the weekend of the 2 Marks and James was fun...but it did seem that most of the questions were aimed at Mark Sheppard and his many rolls over the years. Not that that's a bad thing, but it would've been nice to hear from the other guys too.

It was wonderful to see Jim with his own panel this year. I remember speaking with him a couple of years ago when he was just hanging out at the con (as many crew members do) and got his autograph. Then, as now, he emphasized that the fans are the ones who have kept this show running, that we're all one family, and how much the cast & crew really appreciate us. The trio panel of Richard, Matt, & Rob was completely fun! Poor Rob got picked on a bit (especially by Richard), but you can tell these guys are really close friends, thanks to attending cons all over the world. It's one of the things I love about the show...how it's brought together not only fans who wouldn't have met any other way, but it brings actors who've never even worked together and made lasting friendships. :)

I was a little apprehensive about Alex Zahara being in the line-up, but he was quite wonderful. Enjoyed hearing about his many rolls and his extensive knowledge about prosthetic makeup. This year I was happy that karaoke started earlier (though I missed having a concert) which meant I could stick around longer. :) Taking pics was difficult, but I took a couple of videos that turned out great! I'll be posting them later. Boo! To them not playing "Carry On Wayward Son" though. :( That was a great memory for me from 2012's VanCon....of everyone singing that song together.

Chad & DJ each had great panels. The whole bit with Chad and his spirit detector (or whatever it's called) was downright creepy! It totally said Richard's name! I heard it. Plus, when he was trying to get the spirit to speak, the memory card in my big camera showed an error message! Oooooooh. No lie. Luckily, it turned out to be fine and I didn't lose any pics. DJ is kinda like Garth...but more southern. Hee!

VanCon is right around the corner and I've still got photos from last year to share! So this week is going to be all about my various "extra" photos that I haven't posted. Hope you enjoy them. :)

Sorry for the delay...RL chaos & all that. Today's post contains a few photos of a fan's Impala at the convention & then various photos of the city.

VanCon is right around the corner (15 days!) and I'm looking forward to not only revisiting the beautiful city and enjoying the guests, but meeting up with fellow fans. Many of you I've been fortunate to hang out with every year, but I'm always eager to meet new friends as well.

I'll be in seat C20 all three days, so feel free to stop by and say Hi! :D

Please fill out my little questionnaire (only 5 questions). Helps me to know who all is attending and where to find you. Thx :)

Mom & I made the call this morning to the Best Western Downtown in Vancouver to reserve our room during our VanCon stay next month. Don't like it that we did it so late, but we've been busy. At least now we can breathe a little easier knowing that we have a room.

location-banner

For those of you who don't know...the convention is held in the Sheraton Wall Centre hotel on Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver. We stay at the Best Western on Drake because A) it's a smaller hotel, B) it's more our style and not too fancy, C) White Spot restaurant!. It's about a 5 block walk for me between hotels, but I don't mind at all. So the walking I do for exercise is three-fold. I walk for health reasons, to lose weight for the con, and to prepare myself for this 5 block walk up in Van. ;)

Here's what our room basically looks like. It's nice and simple, just the way we like it. Best of all, if we get the same room we've gotten for the past 4 years, we have a great view of the Granville bridge. :)
Double-Double-Kitchenette

We'll be checking in on Aug. 22nd (Thursday) and checking out on Aug. 28th (Wednesday). That gives us 2 1/2 days to location hunt after the con. Sweet! Just hope I don't get sick on the last day like last year.

VanCon's only 46 days away! Eeeeeeee!!!!!! :D

Thought I'd start something new...a bit more RL stuff from me. I've heard from some that I don't do enough of that. I'm assuming it's still true...

Don't ask me what this is going to be, I'm still working it out in my head. We'll simply see where things take me, alright?
Let's start out with a little "stream of consciousness" to start.

:: I've got the song "Blooming 18" by Ace Of Base stuck in my head at the moment. No idea why. Gah!!!!

:: K is not coming down today. Yay! That means we can do what we want. I could finish the dishes, but not sure I want to bother. Will probably continue scanning old photos with mom.

:: Why is it I want to paint, journal, or be creative late at night when I really can't? *sigh* I did gesso an Art Journal page that I didn't like the outcome of so I can have a do-over. :P

:: Must remember to change the water in my flowers when I get up. Some of them are spent/drooping. Some of the roses have opened up nicely though. :)

:: Am already thinking of saving some of the rose petals for use in my Art Journals, Smashbooks...whatever. :P

:: My arms always get cold in the evenings. Yep, just my arms. The rest of me is just the right temperature. Why don't they make arm warmers like they used to make leg warmers in the 1980s?

A pretty pic of Vancouver via Flickr, since it's on my mind all the time now. VanCon in 2 months! Btw, we can see that purple-topped building on the left from our hotel room each year. It actually cycles through different colors. Pretty!

Vancouver in Violet

Ok, enough for this night. Mom keeps asking when I'm going to bed. Nag, nag, nag... :P

raloria: (Default)
As I mentioned in my earlier post, it seems like Vancouver is having a building boom again. Everywhere you look there's construction going on.

Beneath the cut are just a few pics I snapped from the roof of our hotel.

Small pics so they're web-friendly. ;) )
