I still remember when I first saw this on The Muppet Show as a child. An amazing song and beautiful muppets with the spectacular Harry Belafonte. Seems like a perfect song to head into the new year. Enjoy!
Pretty much the only reason I watched Jay Leno back in the day was for his Headlines feature.
Hope you find this as hilarious as I did! XD

I grew up watching Hee Haw - great country music and lots of silliness & laughs.
This was one of the best little segments, where the special guest got to participate in the fun (Johnny Cash!).

TV Notes: The List
Aug. 18th, 2020 05:25 amCame up with a new, little project (like I need another one). It's all because I found out Garret Wang & Robbie McNeil (from Star Trek: Voyager) have a new podcast (The Delta Flyers) where they're watching all the episodes of Voyager & talking about them! I've already listened to the first several shows and they're wonderful! But of course, I realized that it's been a while since I watched the series, so I started rewatching them online. Anyway, Garret & Robbie talked about taking notes when they watched the episodes and that gave me an idea to take notes myself on each episode. I've already done 2 test runs. It's all very random stuff: thoughts, observations, questions, and of course a few favorite quotes.
My plan is to fill up a journal with my notes, one page per episode.
Then I got to thinking of other TV series that I've really loved over the years that I'd like to do this with as well. All non-comedies, of course. I came up with the list below. Btw, the reason SPN isn't on this list is because I know we all love the show and I do plan on taking notes on the series, but it'll probably be sometime in the future.
So I'd like to know if any of you are fans of these shows?
Would you like me to post my notes on each episode so we can talk about it?
The 100
Star Trek: Voyager
The X-Files
Kung Fu: The Legend Continues
MacGyver (1985)
Alias
Quantum Leap
Dark Angel
Gilmore Girls
Flashpoint
Btw, it's not like I'll be taking these series one by one. I plan on watching several of them at once, because sometimes you feel like watching one show over another on a particular day. You know how it is, right?

A couple more gems from The Muppet Show!
I know the 1st song because it's on one of my grandpa's 78 rpm records. And I love this rendition of "In The Summertime"! Just to give you some info. on The Country Trio, here's what it says on The Muppet Wiki site:
"The Country Trio was a hillbilly band consisting of Muppet versions of Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and Jerry Nelson. Jim played banjo, Frank played bass, and Jerry played guitar."
So the muppets in the trio actually look like their puppeteers! So cool! I do love how Jim Henson sang the line "Cause you don't want my love" with his face all smooshed up! LOL

I grew up listening to the Mills Brothers music and watching The Lawrence Welk Show, so this fills two boxes on the nostalgia checklist. If you've never heard their beautiful harmonies, I urge you to check out all of their recordings. There isn't a bad one in the bunch!
Give me your TV Series Recs, y'all!
Jan. 4th, 2020 05:29 amWith so many shows ending soon (shhhhh!) and my internet situation improving, I'm looking for new shows to start watching. I posted this to Twitter yesterday evening and got a lot of responses! Of course, I'd love for my LJ friends (and lurkers) to offer up their suggestions as well.
Feel free to check out the comments this Tweet over on Twitter to see what's already been mentioned (lots of Justified, Buffy, GOT). Even if you think I've probably watched a show, I can almost guarantee you that I haven't (no cable, ever), so mention away! ;)

I'm looking for new TV viewing so please recommend your favorite shows to me.
I'm open to pretty much anything & keep in mind I haven't seen a lot of the popular shows like Buffy or Game Of Thrones. Rec old shows too, cause I love series going back to the 1950s.
When I was growing up, Christmas music always meant the Ray Conniff singers, because we had 2 of their 3 Xmas albums on vinyl records (still do!). We'd play their songs over and over again. Nobody else had that same sound, beat, or beautiful harmonies. Enjoy! :D
Don't know why this song popped in my head. Maybe because mom & I started watching Xmas movies tonight.
Anyway, this is a lovely song from the old "Twas The Night Before Christmas" cartoon that I grew up watching each year as a kid. Always had the words to this memorized.

Gotta love the Cookie Monster's obsession with cookies! Hee! And poor Kermit's exasperation. Too funny!
And then Cookie Monster gets all philosophical. Whoah...
Fav Lines:
"It's a rump roast."
"Speech like that deserve at least 5 cookies!" LOL
OMG I used to have a little animated gif icon of a smiley eating a cookie and it said this is Dean eating his cookie or something like that. I CAN'T FIND IT!!!!! It would have been PERFECT for this post and I really miss that icon! Gah!!!!!!
YES!!!!! I finally found it on an old Ext. Hard Drive. No idea who made the icon, but it's so appropriate here. Had to use it. :D

This got posted on Twitter this past week & it's just the cutest! Ah, children! :D
I haven't seen this skit in it's entirety since it originally aired. Still hilarious!
“Well, that’s pretty, but it doesn’t answer my question.” LOL And of course, the green "dress". Classic!

We lost two great talented entertainers last week & I realized right away I wanted to make a special post just for them. I grew up watching both of these legends & hope you enjoy these few clips.
One movie I watched from childhood was "Calamity Jane" (1953) and I can't imagine anyone else portraying this character. So many great songs & scenes, but I decided on the opening of the film which jump starts you right into the action with "The Deadwood Stage".
Something I just noticed with this sequence - from the time she enters the Golden Garter until she shoots her guns - it's one long take! No cuts at all! For like a little over a minute (which is huge in film) Doris not only jumps up on the bar twice, she's also dragged backwards in a chair, & lip-synching to the song the entire time. Amazing!
Years later, I discovered another of Doris Day's fine films, "Love Me Or Leave Me" (1955). It was the first time I'd seen her in a role that was somewhat dramatic and I thought she did an incredible job. Of course, there's also wonderful songs to showcase her singing & dancing. My favorite is "Shaking The Blues Away". Gotta love that fabulous blue dress!
Again, I grew up watching The Carol Burnett Show (I even distinctly still remember watching the very last show). What a great ensemble cast! And Tim Conway just killed it all the time, especially when he was trying to break up Harvey Korman. Here is that classic outtake (unedited) of Tim telling the Elephant Story during the Mama's Family skit. He just wouldn't let them go on with the scene! :P

I remember seeing this on the TV as a kid. So happy I found it again on youtube!
Classic! Always was an Animal fan. And Rita, well...a legend. Enjoy!
Btw, here's the translation of what she says to Animal (someone had it in the comments on YT):
"Hey buddy, I want to tell you to stop doing that. It's not nice. Look at me when I'm talking to you. This is my number and if you ruin it I will slap you so hard it'll make you stupid. Cool it."

We're back with more Muppets fun this week! These have to be the most adorable Martians ever! Love them with their little Earth Book and "Yip Yip Yip" & "Nope Nope Nope". LOL
Merry Monday: Muppets "Mahna Mahna"
Apr. 15th, 2019 05:28 amWas trying to find something new to post and decided to go back to the Muppets and this was one of the first videos that popped up. So much fun! And now you'll all have this song stuck in your head. :P
I loved this show growing up and watched it every week. Mark & Bronson were really quite a pair and so comedically talented. Enjoy! :D
Merry Monday: MASH Clips
Feb. 11th, 2019 06:04 amMASH is one of my all-time favorite TV series. I can easily quote lines from the eps and during my college years, there was nothing better than coming home each day and escaping with Hawkeye & the gang for a few hours of laughs. Sadly, there's not many clips from the show on youtube, but I did find these 2 gems. Enjoy! :D
