Finally uploaded another video of music from my paternal grandfather's old Reel to Reel tapes!

The audio is pretty bad on this, with a lot of tape hiss that I just couldn't get rid of because the music was recorded at such a low volume. Like the previous videos, I'm pretty sure this was all recorded off the radio at the time (probably 1960s or 1970s). I was able to identify a few of the artists (thank you Shazam app!) but the rest are total unknowns. They're all old instrumentals. Hope you enjoy!

1 - Meet Me Tonight In Dreamland
2 - On Moonlight Bay - The Darol Rice Silver Saxophones
3 - Bye Bye Blues - Bert Kaempfert & his orch (1965)
4 - Seems Like Old Times / Peg Of My Heart - Freddy Martin (?)
5 - Tiny Bubbles
6 - My Blue Heaven - Roy Smeck
7 - I'm Always Chasing Rainbows

Hey! It's a new post...and MUSIC! I actually uploaded these to YT a whole month ago but...whatever. :P

NOTE FROM PREVIOUS POST: These are from my paternal grandfather's old Reel-To-Reel tapes that we recorded onto regular audio cassettes years ago. I suspect this music was recorded off of the radio because it's all different instruments/orchestras and artists. I've identified most of the songs, but not all. Anyway, if you like old music, this is right up your alley! :)

This first video is actually a clip from a much longer recording (which I will eventually upload in it's entirety). I believe it was a recording done off of the TV of the Sing Along With Mitch program back in the 1960s. This is just the song, "Bless'Em All" which I heard in the beginning of the movie "Twelve O'Clock High" and it made me think of this recording. Very short, but I hope you like it.

Next we have a continuation of music recorded off the radio (as far as I know). Different artists and mostly instrumentals. Again, this was probably from the early 1960s. Happy listening!

1 - Let Me Call You Sweetheart - Les Elgart & his Orch
2 - Canadian Capers - The Three Suns
3 - Release Me - ? (cut off)
4 - The Third Man Theme - Johnny Ukulele
5 - Alice Blue Gown - ?
6 - Maria Elena - Los Indios Tabajaras
7 - A June Night - The Three Suns

Been working on my new YouTube channel at long last and finally posting some audio files publicly.

These are from my paternal grandfather's old Reel-To-Reel tapes that we recorded onto regular audio cassettes years ago. This is just Side A of the first reel (I have to limit my uploads to 15 min). I suspect this music was recorded off of the radio because it's all different instruments/orchestras and artists. I've identified most of the songs, but not all. Anyway, if you like old music, this is right up your alley! :)

It's been a crazy, messed-up year and at this point I'm feeling very grateful for what I still have. I can't help but think of how many people have lost family & friends to Covid-19 and how many families will be incomplete today. Most of my family/relatives have been gone for years now, so I miss them a lot at Christmas because the 9 of us always celebrated together. But I'm so glad to still have my mom with me, especially in light of the virus.

I'm also thankful for all of you, my online friends! I'm sorry for not being a very good friend this year. Please keep safe and have a very Merry Christmas (if you celebrate). No White Christmas here - just rain - but enjoy some Bing & Frank! :)

Been listening to a lot of country music from the 1970s and 1980s and one of the groups I grew up listening to was The Statler Brothers. Much like the Mills Brothers, with beautiful harmonies, I've never heard a song by them that I didn't like. These are 2 favorites. Dig those 1970s suits! :P

Sadly, I found out in searching for these videos, that the bass singer of the group, Harold Reid, passed away back in April of this year, from kidney failure. RIP Harold & thank you for the music.

Edit: Had to add in just one more! "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine" is just lovely!

Did anyone else get to watch this live yesterday? I thought I was going to miss it, but finally spotted where Misha was streaming it live on his youtube channel. So great to see Jensen & Jared there (in their respective Vancouver apartments, going thru their required quarantine before filming). Beards are still there and the flowing hair (loved the bit about them all riding the coattails of Jared's hair). Anyone else wonder if that was FB Beer Jensen was drinking? :P

There's a lot of caps here, but I did start with over 400. ;)

Lots 'o Caps... )

A couple more gems from The Muppet Show!
I know the 1st song because it's on one of my grandpa's 78 rpm records. And I love this rendition of "In The Summertime"! Just to give you some info. on The Country Trio, here's what it says on The Muppet Wiki site:

"The Country Trio was a hillbilly band consisting of Muppet versions of Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and Jerry Nelson. Jim played banjo, Frank played bass, and Jerry played guitar."

So the muppets in the trio actually look like their puppeteers! So cool! I do love how Jim Henson sang the line "Cause you don't want my love" with his face all smooshed up! LOL

I grew up listening to the Mills Brothers music and watching The Lawrence Welk Show, so this fills two boxes on the nostalgia checklist. If you've never heard their beautiful harmonies, I urge you to check out all of their recordings. There isn't a bad one in the bunch!

Little known fact about me: I've loved dancing since I was just a little kid. Never took any lessons, but my parents made sure I was well versed on the greatest dancers of the movies: Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Eleanor Powell, Vera Ellen, and oh so many more! I still recall bouncing around on our sofa, pretending I was Donald O'Connor doing "Make'm Laugh" from "Singing In The Rain". I squeezed my feet into my older cousins old tap shoes (I think she DID take dance lessons at one point) because I was desperate to dance like my movie musical favorites. And when I was in high school, I finally took dance classes, but they were more like elaborate cheer routines, but I loved it!

I thought we'd spend this week looking at some of my favorite movie dance routines.
We'll start with the film "That's Dancing", which celebrated the origins of dance on film. Below are the opening credits and the music video by Kim Carnes, who did the song for the closing credits.

A day late, but this is Easter Monday, so it still works.
A delightful walk down the avenue in all their Easter finery with Judy & Fred in this 1948 musical. :)

These 2 songs got me through a rough Sunday, so I thought I'd share them. There's really nothing to connect these songs in any way. That's just how my crazy brain works, I guess. :P

The Crooning Kings, Bing & Frank, lighting up the screen with this fabulous number from "High Society" (one of my favorite musicals!).

"Have you heard, it's in the stars
Next July we collide with Mars!
Well, did you evah
What a swell party this is"

When I was growing up, Christmas music always meant the Ray Conniff singers, because we had 2 of their 3 Xmas albums on vinyl records (still do!). We'd play their songs over and over again. Nobody else had that same sound, beat, or beautiful harmonies. Enjoy! :D

Don't know why this song popped in my head. Maybe because mom & I started watching Xmas movies tonight.

Anyway, this is a lovely song from the old "Twas The Night Before Christmas" cartoon that I grew up watching each year as a kid. Always had the words to this memorized.

Something a little different today...

This song popped into my head while I was trying to figure out what to choose for this post. Me and my parents loved this song when it first came out in the 1980s. We still have the 45 rpm record of it. I'll admit, I still have most of the lyrics memorized. One thing I noted is that in this video, Ray sings the song slightly different than in the original recording - different inflections - but it's still a fun song! Enjoy! :D

I've already watched Supernatural 14x11 and all I'll say is...whoo, boy! Lots of emotions!
Can't wait to give it another viewing or 2 before I type up my review in the days to come.

Next week's promo & song & spoilery talk if you haven't seen last night's ep... )

It's the first Monday of the new year, so I thought I'd try something new. Mondays usually suck, so why not post something fun and light each Monday to hopefully put us all in a better mood?

If you don't smile during this video...you need help. Upbeat song (thank you, Al Hirt!) and those cute Muppets!

Heard this song on the radio yesterday and had to do a lot of searching online to track it down. Even Spotify doesn't have it. :(

But it is on youtube. If you love Doo-Wop, this is a great song. I love the tempo, the vocalization, the harmony...it's a toe-tapper! :D

I give you...The Gleams with "You Broke My Heart" from 1961. Crank up the volume & take a listen. ;)

Wow! Looks like Comic Con really pulled out all the stops for SPN this year.
Kansas was there to play "Carry On Wayward Son" live on the stage, with the huge, wrap-around screens showing moments from the show's 12 seasons. Awesomeness!!!

I selected 3 of the best videos of the performance on youtube and I honestly get chills every time I watch them! And I love that Jensen, Jared, and Misha insisted on watching the performance from the back of the room, with the audience. How cool! :D

Was watching old TV commercials from the 80's on youtube and somehow came across this gem.

I can still remember back in 1985 and I was sitting in my bedroom, listening to the radio, and they had the international broadcast of this song for the first time. It was amazing to think at that very moment that one song was being played all over the world. What a great collection of music artists!

And I must say, in light of today's troubles, a lot of the lyrics still work and are as meaningful as they were then.
