Thanks for all the wonderful comments to yesterday's post/photo. It spurred me to fix another old con photo, this time of Jared from the VanCon 2013 Sunday Gold Breakfast Panel. Beanie, scruff, hands, arms! *sigh*

Got to examining how far behind in fixing/posting/uploading my VanCon photos and the last ones I posted were from 2012! Yikes.

Fortunately, I gathered most of the photos from VanCon 2013 - VanCon 2015 all together on a flash drive so I could work on getting them ready for sharing. Then, of course, Real Life and stuff happened and I never got back to it. I'm hoping now I can find the time. :)

So here's a little sneak peek. Just grabbed this shot of Jensen from the Sunday Breakfast (back when it was held in a separate room w/tables & Brunch).

Fun times from Friday Night of VanCon with Rob, Emily, Richard, Matt & surprise guest Ty Olsson!
This was definitely one of those times when it helps to be tall. LOL

I still need to fix and prep my main photos taken with my big Canon camera, but here are some pics taken with my new point & shoot camera: the Canon Powershot S110. My plan had been to post these each night during the con to give everyone a taste of what was going on, but the schedule was so packed that I didn't have any time. So you're getting them now. It's all good, right?

Please keep in mind that the photos from my other camera will be better than these. Thx. ;)

The boys panel was as much fun as ever. Again, I can't remember much of it, but I must admit it wasn't quite as fun as last year's, but I'm splitting hairs here. Like last year we got another auction which provided more amusing interactions. We also got Robert Singer! What a thrill! I regret I didn't get to meet him personally. Darn! Ty was so different than I expected. He's just go, go, go...a mile a minute. I thought it was hard to take photos of Richard! He's slow compared to how much Ty moves around. LOL It was really interesting to hear about Ty's life though and how much adversity he's overcome. After everything ended at the comm, I was lucky enough to get to hang out with writer Adam Glass and a few fans. Then he called writer Robbie Thompson over for some photos! Awesome! I'd gotten to meet Robbie on Saturday, but to have them both there? Terrific! :D

This is the end of my Powershot pics, but NOT the end of my VanCon photos. Stay tuned for more!
I'll also be posting a few videos I shot. :D

I came in on the costume contest and missed the first round. So unusual to have so many participants! They had so many Castiels that they had to judge them separately. This one guy was definitely everyone's favorite (at least where I was sitting, seeing as he was right in front of us on the stage). He never broke character! He was in full-on Castiel mode. It was amazing! In the end, Misha came out and chose 2 winners....the guy and the gal with these terrific black wings that she could extend out on a pulley system. The 2 of them even had a mock fight at one point! As for Misha's panel, it was a delight, as always. The highlights were him talking about how West is getting used to Maison, though he still attacks her sometimes. The other was when a fan said it was her birthday and asked Misha to do a Gishwhes-type stunt with her. So Misha proceeded to ask for supplies from the crowd and then used them on the girl, including putting deodorant on her glasses & chest, taping her hands together, and putting cookies on her head! Craziness!

Talk about contrasting guests. LOL Felicia was amusing and sweet and Seb was wild and raunchy! Felicia answered a lot of questions about gaming, which went right over my head, but it was cool to find out her other interests (romance novel book club anyone?). It was very cool to find out the reason she was added to the con at the last minute was all Jensen & Jared's doing. They told her she HAD to attend and set it all up. Yay! boys!!! Seb, of course barely answered any questions. It was more like being part of a giant orgy. :P I know Seb's not everyone's cup of tea, but he's not all that bad either and once you meet him in photo-ops and during autographs you see a whole other side of him (which is quite different than his on stage persona).

One of the added benefits of being in Vancouver is that you get to hang out with so many of the crew members and a bunch of them were on hand Saturday. The big surprise was meeting one of the writers: Robbie Thompson! I'm sad I didn't get a chance to chat with Kevin Parks this time, but then there's always next year. *g* Russ Hamilton never disappoints in his panel, and it was neat for him to bring up his daughter to read the warning on his much protected notebook of locations. The other trio panel of the weekend of the 2 Marks and James was fun...but it did seem that most of the questions were aimed at Mark Sheppard and his many rolls over the years. Not that that's a bad thing, but it would've been nice to hear from the other guys too.

It was wonderful to see Jim with his own panel this year. I remember speaking with him a couple of years ago when he was just hanging out at the con (as many crew members do) and got his autograph. Then, as now, he emphasized that the fans are the ones who have kept this show running, that we're all one family, and how much the cast & crew really appreciate us. The trio panel of Richard, Matt, & Rob was completely fun! Poor Rob got picked on a bit (especially by Richard), but you can tell these guys are really close friends, thanks to attending cons all over the world. It's one of the things I love about the show...how it's brought together not only fans who wouldn't have met any other way, but it brings actors who've never even worked together and made lasting friendships. :)

I was a little apprehensive about Alex Zahara being in the line-up, but he was quite wonderful. Enjoyed hearing about his many rolls and his extensive knowledge about prosthetic makeup. This year I was happy that karaoke started earlier (though I missed having a concert) which meant I could stick around longer. :) Taking pics was difficult, but I took a couple of videos that turned out great! I'll be posting them later. Boo! To them not playing "Carry On Wayward Son" though. :( That was a great memory for me from 2012's VanCon....of everyone singing that song together.

Chad & DJ each had great panels. The whole bit with Chad and his spirit detector (or whatever it's called) was downright creepy! It totally said Richard's name! I heard it. Plus, when he was trying to get the spirit to speak, the memory card in my big camera showed an error message! Oooooooh. No lie. Luckily, it turned out to be fine and I didn't lose any pics. DJ is kinda like Garth...but more southern. Hee!

:: Misha should come with a warning label, especially for sandwich photo-ops! He likes to body slam into you and if you're not careful or ready you could end up in a heap on the floor (not that that would entirely be a bad thing *g*).

:: Having too many photos printed out for autographs is really a bad idea. Commit to a decision at home...and do it early!

:: Post-it notes for auto personalization do not interact well with certain photo papers (like Epson's Lustre). I now have sticky patches on some of my autographed pics. Bleh.

:: Mark Sheppard refuses to smile in any photo-op.

:: Making Jensen do the whole throw-head-back-and-laugh is the best feeling ever. :)

:: Jim Michaels gives awesome hugs...and is a big flirt!

:: Trying to find locations in the woods is really HARD! A tree is a tree is a tree.

:: It pays to ask the volunteers if a guest is personalizing during autos. You might just get lucky where others will not. ;)

:: Make sure the guests use the right colored pen (black or silver) for your pic to sign. If you can't see it, what's the point?

:: Some filming locations that are no more: Oasis Hotel and Accurate Iron Works.

:: Bring an umbrella!!!! It does rain in Vancouver in August sometimes. D'oh!

:: Make sure a guest's auto does or does not come with the Gold Ticket. I missed out on getting Rachel Miner's auto. Had a photo all printed and everything. :(

:: Stop getting photo-ops with short, female celebrities. Unless it's Felicia Day and then it's alright.

:: Always grab 2 copies of the schedule. You'll need them.

:: Being last in a photo-op line is actually pretty cool, especially if the guest doesn't have to dash off to be somewhere else. Added chat time! :D

:: Don't bother bringing things to do during "down time". There is no "down time". It's just extra stuff you gotta carry around.

:: Have more than one battery for a camera.

:: Even members of the crew recognize that Season 6 was not one of their best.

:: Put episode numbers & titles at the beginning of each Filming Locations list. Will save on having to remember what scene happened in which ep when you're out location hunting.

Is it any wonder I'm missing Vancouver already? *sigh*

But it's back to real life and cold, hard reality. It sucks, but one can't be in happy land all the time, right? Got home around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night after doing a little more location hunting.

Now it's time to settle back in at home and try and get back to posting on LJ. Would have done the Just 'Cause post last night, but I was just too sleepy after driving all day/evening. There will be a post for Friday though. ;)

Need to get to posting my VanCon photos. Haven't even had time to look at them all. Relied on the flash this time, which sadly, meant I missed some key moments during panels. Grrrrr. Frustrating, but I hope that the photos I did get are good.

In the meantime, I'll start by posting some of the photos I took with my new Canon point & shoot camera. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and taking successful pics with it during the panels was kind of hit and miss due to the crazy lighting, but it'll give you a little sneak peak of what's to come. Then there's the location photos (and the ones from 2012, haven't forgotten those *g*), autos and photo-ops, too.

It was really a fun week and I'm sorry it ended so fast. I could've easily stayed another week in that beautiful city, but alas, funds wouldn't allow it. I'll be returning next year, of course, so there is that to look forward to. ;)

Sorry about the lack of Storify posts. Obviously, my trip to Van was busier than I anticipated. I'll be making more stories very soon and posting them. Stay tuned!

Hi all! Sorry about the lack of posts or even Tweets. I did warn you this could happen. VanCon was simply one crazy marathon of a weekend! I'm exhausted....but oh, the sweet memories that were made. :)

A few thoughts...

:: Richard....he should host all the SPN cons. He's awesome. He dubbed this one Porn-couver. Yep, every guest was introduced by their porn name (1st pet + street you grew up on). Made for quite a irreverent and fun weekend, to say the least. :P
:: Chad Lindberg is quirky and fun and....fellow Washingtonian. Whoohoo!
:: Rob & Emily were fun. Love the idea they came up with the fans for a spin-off for Chuck & Becky: "Slash/Fiction".
:: DJ Qualls was a blast and a lot like Garth in some ways.
:: Alex Zahara was surprising and informative (and passionate) about his acting...and being killed on TV 33 times.
:: Jim Michaels is a big flirt!
:: Rob, Matt, & Richard...one of the best panels all weekend. Poor Rob! "Banana hammock!" :P
:: Russ Hamilton...drinking and locations/filming info. all in one.
:: Mark P., Mark S., and James were another knock out panel. Shame that Sheppard got most of the questions, but ah, well.
:: Felicia!!!!! She was adorable, geeky, and fun! Love her!
:: Sebastian....X-Rated almost doesn't cover it.
:: Misha...only during his panel would a fan end up tied up with duct tape and mashed on the head with cookies.
:: Rachel Miner was quiet and shy and every much the professed "book worm".
:: Jensen & Jared....Loads of fun and an awesome auction!
:: Ty Olsson...oh, so wild. Half the time I was trying to figure out what he was saying he was speaking so fast!

:: Met writers Robbie Thompson & Adam Glass. What a thrill! Half the fun of VanCon is getting to meet this awesome crew, but to meet two of the writers...OMG that's extra special! :D
Also saw Kevin Parks, Serge, Jerry, a couple of the VFX guys, and Robert Singer himself was in attendance!

That's the weekend in a nutshell (a very small one, believe me). I've got lots to share, lots of pics, even a few videos, but the schedule was so packed and crazy I've had no time to share them. Sorry to make you wait. Heck I shouldn't even be making this post, but I simply had to post something about this weekend. :)

To all who I met up with....it was so wonderful to see you and share a chat or just wave hello. To those that I missed...I'm so sorry. As you know there was little time to do much of anything except line up, get a pic taken, get autos, or sit at a panel. I know there are people I wanted to meet up with and didn't. Next year, alright?

Ok, off to bed now. It's already quite late. Location hunting in the morning...but not too early. :P

raloria: (Default)
I am here!!!!! :D

Finally, the event I look forward to every year is in full swing once again. I couldn't be happier...or more exhausted. LOL

Got a late start on the drive up, but arrived around 5 p.m. Ate supper (chicken burger...mmmm) and then went to registration. I've gotta say it pays to have friends who stay at the con hotel and get there before you to hold a place in line. C'mon...everybody does it. :P The line for Gold tickets alone was HUGE. Then the Silver/General Admission ticket holders were after all the Gold.

They started a bit late (Gold was supposed to begin at 8 p.m., it was more like 8:40). At times things were a bit chaotic with people going through the line to scan tickets, put on bracelets, and pass out lanyards. Didn't help that it was quite warm in that big hall. Everyone was using their programs and tickets to fan themselves. And this was at night. I hate to think what that hall will be like with the sun shining in there. Ugh. Glad I brought along a battery operated fan to help a little.

The best part of standing in line for nearly 2 hours, was meeting up with so many friends. Reunited with [livejournal.com profile] metallidean_grl, [livejournal.com profile] mrsr58, [livejournal.com profile] growyourwings, [livejournal.com profile] hells_half_acre, [livejournal.com profile] missyjack, and a few others that I don't recall the names of or don't know their LJ usernames (if they are on LJ). Waved at [livejournal.com profile] cha and [livejournal.com profile] peepingdru and said hi to [livejournal.com profile] country_bee, too!

Bought photo-op tx for Felicia and Chad and auto tx for Felicia & DJ. I like to space out my purchases. Heh. Need to think about a few options for Saturday when I'm there tomorrow (to get a Jim Michaels photo-op, or to not?). Bought Felicia's tx 'cause I figured they might sell out fast.

Anyway, I'm beat and looking forward to getting a good night's sleep. Will probably be the only one I get over the weekend. At least things start late tomorrow - noon. Saturday and Sunday both look like they will be the long, marathon days.

I'm off to post tomorrow's Just 'Cause cap (thank goodness for LJ's scheduling feature!) and then I'm off to slumberland.

Oh! Btw...not sure how much I'll be Tweeting during the con after all. The roaming charges up here are murder! But we'll see.

A little info. post about VanCon...

:: Meant to post this earlier, but just in case: I've got a great CONVENTION GUIDE FOR NEWBIES post that is helpful whether you're new to SPN cons or are a seasoned veteran who'd like some advice.

:: I hope to share some photos each day from the panels, etc. that I'll post here to LJ.

:: You can also check out / follow what I'm doing throughout the con on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Valerie613

:: If you're location hunting on your own in Vancouver, be sure to check out my updated for Season 8 Locations List over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_locations. The Google Maps are especially helpful.

Wish everyone a great weekend and I'll do my best to keep you all updated on the excitement! :D

Me? I'm printing photos like nobody's business. Somewhere the executives from Epson are drooling over the amount of ink I've changed today. LOL

I always say I'm not going to let this go to the last minute and here I am with only a week to go, trying to find good pics for autos. The big SPN book is a popular choice this year, but my backpack is heavy enough with my camera equipment, etc. No way am I carrying around a coffee table book in there. And I learned last year that Creation can't always be trusted to provide good photos of the guests in the Vendor's Room. Julie McNiven was a victim. Her photos were awful! Terribly blurry. I thought the one I'd printed from home was sucky until I saw what they had.

So I'm trying to be prepared, but it's hard with some guests. Take Emily Perkins and Rob Benedict. The only episode stills I could find of them were from "The Real Ghostbusters". I've never cared for the production pics of Richard (Trickster), but I've already bought the few head shots Creation has so this year I've printed up a couple of my own pics of him. They're not the greatest, but they are different. Couldn't find any pics of James Patrick Stuart, so I hope there's something in the Vendor's Room of him. For once I'm going with an episode still from "In The Beginning" for Matt Cohen. It'll be a nice change from the head shots & my one photo (the one he's using for his Twitter avatar...still!!!).

As for Jensen & Jared I've debated having them sign the Comic Con mag (boring! everybody does that!) or even the old TV Guide cover (I bought 2 just so I could have one signed). But at the moment I'm leaning towards having them sign some of my photos of them from last year's VanCon that turned out so good. However, that still means making a decision: individual pics or one of the two of them to sign together. *sigh* Must admit, I'm leaning towards individual pics since they're a bit better than the ones of them together. As for Misha, I think I'll be using a great photo I took of him from the cruise a couple years ago where he's smiling. Then again, I've got a back-up...a cool episode still of Castiel holding an angel sword and looking fierce! :) So hard to choose!!! I'll probably end up making a last minute decision while I'm line which has been my trend over the past 4 years. :P

VanCon is right around the corner (15 days!) and I'm looking forward to not only revisiting the beautiful city and enjoying the guests, but meeting up with fellow fans. Many of you I've been fortunate to hang out with every year, but I'm always eager to meet new friends as well.

I'll be in seat C20 all three days, so feel free to stop by and say Hi! :D

Please fill out my little questionnaire (only 5 questions). Helps me to know who all is attending and where to find you. Thx :)

Less than a month until VanCon and there's a lot going on. Here's where various projects & such stand right now.

:: [livejournal.com profile] spn_ontheset → Temporarily on hiatus until August 1st so I can have a little breather and hopefully download some more BTS pics to post.

:: SPN Revealed Season 2 → On hold until after VanCon.

:: SPN Season 7 Caps → There's only 2 episodes left to post, but again...after VanCon.

:: SPN Season 8 Caps → Plan on continuing with the standard (1280x720) sized caps, picking up from where I left off at 8x07. Also want to at least highlight cap the episodes in the larger size. Again, after VanCon.

:: SPN Beginnings & Endings → Hoping to keep this up on a twice a week basis up to VanCon.

:: New Icons → I want to make a few more from some Comic Con pics and then I'll be posting them. ;)

:: Hi-Res caps of J2 Nerd HQ Panel at Comic Con → I'm afraid this is going to be one of those things pushed back to post-VanCon. If I had more time, I'd work on them, but the Locations List has to come first right now. Plus, everyone seemed pretty happy with the caps I already posted from the livestream, so...I think these others can wait.

:: Extra VanCon 2012 & Location Hunt Photos → Need to get these posted over the next week or so.

:: Name That Cap Challenge 4 → Still going strong. It will be on hiatus for VanCon though.

:: [livejournal.com profile] spn_locations & the Locations List → Being worked on nearly every evening at least. Sadly, I began the update far too late and my time is further being cut down by RL issues. I'm making shortcuts (no Google Street Views for S8 - sorry) and the list won't be what I want it to be....but it will be useable, I promise. Made a cool discovery tonight that will come in handy for those of you who use Google Maps for your location hunting. ;)

And of course there's lots of other stuff: fixing more caps for the Just 'Cause posts, making more fanarts, choosing what I need to print for autographs at VanCon, and I'm sure I'm forgetting things.
