9/11 10th Anniversary: In Tribute
Sep. 11th, 2011 03:23 amSo many memories of that fateful day, ten years ago. I remember my mom waking me up and telling me that a plane had hit the towers in NYC. I remember watching the TV all day and night (and on into the days to come) in disbelief of what was happening. I remember how our skies got more quiet than I've ever heard them (I live 10 minutes from a major airport) as all air traffic was shut down.
I remember the fear, the uneasiness, the loss of so many innocent lives that I didn't even know, the horrors that people went through either as survivors or in their final moments as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. I remember the swell of pride as not only firefighters, paramedics, police, and soldiers stepped up to save lives, but as ordinary people did what they could to help total strangers. I remember thinking 10 years ago that this felt an awful lot like the end of the world, or at least the end of life as we knew it.

But there is no denying that we banded together, that we learned from our mistakes and found ways to make ourselves safer. In light of a tragedy where it seemed life would never go on, it did, only different than before.
This is why we'll never forget. It touched everyone, whether you were there on site for the attacks or millions of miles away watching it unfold on a TV. Innocence was lost that day, but there is no destroying the human spirit.
