Mom--

:: Rash on her hand is getting better with the cream the Dr. gave her. Some kind of fungus he said. Peachy. It's not completely healed but it looks far better than it did several weeks ago.

:: Has tendonitis/gout in her left wrist. Is taking medication for gout for it along with wearing a wrist brace off and on. Some days it's good, others not so much. Took her a while to get the brace so maybe taking the medication WITH the wearing of the brace will do the trick.

:: Mom's breast started giving her trouble over the past several weeks (right after her last appoint. with the radiologist, actually). It was hurting and swollen...then it started itching all the time. She made another appointment with him but then it got really bad last weekend...started bleeding. Yikes. We did what we could with large bandaids (which she would soak thru in a couple hours) and eventually I even took to taping my menstrual pads to her breast. That worked like a charm. She saw the radiologist on Monday. He looked at it and as we suspected, he said it was infected. Canceled her mammogram for this week and got her in to see another Doctor in the building that same day. Said it should be lanced and packed. Bleh. Other Dr. looked at and said it's draining fine on it's own, let's just let it continue to bleed out. Gave mom prescription for anti-biotics which she's now taking. Got an appointment to see her again next Tuesday. The bleeding is slowing down, thank goodness. Anyway, I was pretty stressed out all weekend.

They still want the mammogram done once this infection is taken care of, but she's got to heal up first. Then they'll check and make sure the cancer hasn't returned. Apparently the cancer, surgery, then the follow up radiation can lead one to be susceptible to infections. Lovely.

Cousin K--

:: Baby is late...a week an a half to be exact.

:: Got text from K early Thursday morning that the baby was on the way and she was in the hospital. By the time mom & I got up and got there in the early afternoon they were still waiting. But K is in good hands. She's got the "good drugs" and couldn't even feel any pain from the contractions. Mom & I got to see her for a little bit, but then they wanted her to get some rest. Baby not expected until some time tonight...maybe.

What is it about first babies taking so long to be born?

I was the same way, of course. My poor mom was in labor for 36 hours before they finally decided to get me out by c-section. Luckily things are far more advanced now. She's at a great hospital (Swedish Medical Center in Seattle) and they're monitoring her and the baby. We could even see the baby's heartbeat on the monitor, along with the contractions. Anyway, we're still waiting for word of the new one's arrival. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Mom & I only stayed a bit and then left. With the nasty, rainy weather it took us over 2 hours to drive home! Yuck! Thank goodness for the car pool lane. We were gonna pick up some groceries, but it was so late we just grabbed some supper and came home. *iz tired*

So that's all the latest. Mom's on the mend and we're waiting for the newest member of what is left of our little "family".

Oh, btw I'm okay. Had a headache for the past couple of days that didn't seem to want to let up, but Thursday morning it got even worse. Had a migraine. I've had a few in the past, but this one wasn't too bad even though I felt a tiny bit queasy. Anyway, I went back to sleep for a bit, woke up and it was gone! Wow. I felt great! No pain at all. Not even a hint. I'm getting a bit of a headache now, but yeah...long day and I'm tired. Really should go to bed soon. I figure all the stress about my mom and the baby this past weekend, along with my terrible sleep hours, and the possibility that my period is coming up might be causing these headaches. Ugh. It's a lot to deal with.
