Choosing not to strike against LJ
Mar. 17th, 2008 10:45 pmSo people are preparing for a one day strike against LJ on Friday. I know there's going to be questions about this, so here's the info. and my opinion on this whole deal.
This is the plan...
One-Day LJ Content Strike
For one day, Friday, March 21, make no posts. Make no comments. Let there be NO new content added to LJ.
SUP obviously does not realize that Basic users have given something of value to them, that it is content that drives the site.
So, for one 24-hour period, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT*, let's see how many people we can get to pledge to contribute NO CONTENT.
This will create a permanent downward spike in the daily-posts statistics, a permanent reminder of the power of the userbase.
**Full information and details are at The Fox's Den.** and here
Now my 5-cents worth...
Dropping the Basic accounts....doesn't seem like that big a deal to me. They were small accounts, you don't get that many user pics, they're kind of a waste when you can just sign up for the next level (don't remember the name) and have the advertising. Or....use the FF add-on AdBlock Plus and you won't even see the ads.
This strike seems like a waste of time, IMO. It's like telling people to not go see a movie because you want people to boycott it. You're not going to get everyone to do it, it won't have the full effect, so why bother. I know...I sound evil and pessimistic, which really isn't my way at all. I just don't see where the powers that be at LJ are even going to care. This action will mean nothing to them....one day....big deal. Now if everyone was to suddenly leave and never come back...that would effect things. No more journals, no more LJ. But we all know that's not going to happen.
So I won't be participating in this strike. I'm exercising my right to be on LJ. It's the anti-strike. Heh.
I also want to add...I respect the rights of others to use their initiative to participate in this strike. It's they're choice. If they feel it's important enough to take this action...good for them. Maybe LJ/SUP will notice....who knows?
But I'll be posting my normal Just 'Cause cap....I'm not about to miss a day, unless I'm physically incapable. :P
*steps off of soapbox* Yes, Trys, I totally copy & pasted from my comments at your LJ. Heh.
Everyone's free to do their own thing on this matter. I'm just letting you know where I stand. :)
