First Impressions Review: 13x22 "Exodus"

raloriaLate again. Well, nobody's gonna read this anyway. It's just the completionist in me that wants to finish out my season of reviews.
Alrighty, 2nd viewing...here we go!
Again, I'm all for killing Lucifer at this point, so I'm with Dean in one respect at the beginning of the ep. But expecting Gabriel to kill his own brother? C'mon Dean. You wouldn't kill Sam - even when everyone & everything was telling you he'd gone darkside many seasons ago. So, tall order right there.
Now I have my own reasons for wanting Lucifer to die. Mainly, it's because, like Crowley last season, his storyline has just run out. It's become the same old, same old...daddy locked me away and treated me unfairly. Whine, whine, whine. I had hoped he had healed some of those wounds and feelings when they all worked together against Amara in Season 11. Nope. Lucifer went right back to his old ways. Nothing has changed. It's gotten old. And while Lucifer used to be interesting, he simply isn't anymore. Btw, this has nothing to do with Mark Pellegrino. He's cool. I'm just done w/the character.
And btw, Sam should totally be the one to kill Lucifer. Just sayin'.
On with the ep!
So Jack takes off because he doesn't like conflict and it made me think back to when Cas wasn't exactly himself and was kinda crazy and he'd disappear when there was conflict, too.
Wait, wait....Lucifer says he beat Alt!Michael. Uh, no...Michael stole his grace, had Kevin open a rift, and then Lucifer managed to break free from the angels that were holding him and jumped through the doorway. So...more lies he's spinning just to get Jack's approval.
Btw, it's interesting how before this, Lucifer always promoted that he never lied to anyone. Now he's lying all over the place.
THE BROTHERS HUG!!!!! Such a beautiful moment. That's what we've been needing for a while now!
Of course Dean doesn't care about Sam bringing Lucifer into the camp. He's just grateful to have his brother back and alive again!
Btw, HUGE thanks to the person who put in the credits for pausing them during the actual hug. This screencapper is most appreciative! :D

Lucifer: "That a yes?"

Okay, I've read a lot of hate towards Mary lately and this scene where she tells the boys she wants to stay behind to help the people in Apocalypse World is the main reason. My take: Mary's a hunter and she's doing what the boys would do if they were in her place. How can we be against that? And Dean saying they need her? No. They don't NEED her, they want her. It's a different thing. They haven't needed Mary except when they were kids. As adults, they've lived on their own, without her. They don't NEED her. But I get that Dean has a closer connection with his mom and doesn't want those abandoned feelings again, which I'm sure he's feeling in this moment. Which is also why Sam agrees with his mom. He doesn't have that "I need mom" connection that Dean feels. And I'm glad Sam comes up with a solution where Mary gets to come along back home with them and they bring everyone else, too. It's kinda brilliant, really. Though at first I was thinking it was kind of an impossible task. More on this later.
I get that Dean and the others are freaked out about Jack and Lucifer talking, but I agree with Mary...let them talk. Jack will figure out Lucifer's true nature. But keeping him away from Lucifer is simply making Jack more curious. Actually, Jack is more focused on killing Alt!Michael. Oh, and it irks me so much that it's Lucifer who talks Jack into not going after Michael and getting on the bus when Sam was the one who started the conversation. Gah! More manipulation and seeking approval from his kid! And all Sam can do is stand there as Jack agrees that Lucifer makes a valid point. *sigh*
I love that Gabriel continually calls Lucifer out on his long history of crap. It's awesome and Richard and Mark really did a beautiful job in that "Lucifer as cancer" scene.
I love Misha, but WTH was that Alt!Castiel??? LOL That friggin' accent! Was that German or Russian???
I kept trying to figure out if this was a cross between Hitler and Cas. The uniform and the black gloves kinda hinted at that, too. So weird, man! I mean, I get that without the Winchester's influence, Cas is a bad angel just like his brethren, but why the accent? I just...it was too much. Glad our Cas killed him quickly. But why did Cas say they were the same before he killed him? Hmmm...
Ketch CRYING when Charlie gets tortured by Alt!Cas. Wow! Who would've thought that would happen???
I seriously want this new, moral, improved Ketch to live. I like this Ketch!
There's gotta be a joke in there somewhere about Lucifer driving the bus full of humans. :P
Ok, for the record...how do angels know how to drive vehicles? I get the ones that have been on Earth and lived with humans for a long time, but when did Lucifer learn? And why would he?

Ah, Michael...always with the big entrance. Nice wings though.
Oh, Gabriel...ready now to fight the good fight. He tells the boys to go and then they don't leave!

He could've slipped through the rift and left a copy behind, right? Got lost in the group in the Bunker? Please? :(
Love Sam pushing Lucifer away to be trapped with Michael though. Woot!
Party in the Bunker! Everyone's happy except Jack. :(
Now my question is...where are they gonna put all these people? How are they gonna control them - I mean, what if someone gets outside to do some exploring and finds some trouble? So many variables here.
So Lucifer strikes a deal with Michael to open another rift so he can reunite with Jack and Michael can have everything else. Uh...where are they gonna get the ingredients for that spell? Look how long it took the boys to gather all the supplies. Where will they get the blood of a most holy man, the fruit, that Key of Solomon? Can't believe those are readily available in Apocalypse World.
And is that regret on Lucifer's face at the end? Hmmmm....
Final Thoughts:
Now that I've given the episode another look and gotten over my "Kill Lucifer" mantra while watching, it was very enjoyable. Great acting (Misha's alt!Cas aside - sorry Mish) and some good writing from a team that doesn't always produce the best episodes.
I'll give this episode an A-.
OMG It's Season Finale time!!!! Even after seeing the promo I STILL can't tell what the hell is going to happen! I don't know whether to be excited or scared.

Sam: Mom doesn't want to leave these people. So let's take 'em with us.
Lucifer: Wow. I have been waiting for this moment for so long, I almost don't know what to say. This... this dad thing is sort of new to me. So, um... Do -- do you have any questions that you wanna ask? Don't let my status as a legend hold you back. Now just... fire away.
Jack: Why does everyone hate you?
Lucifer: Huh. Wow, he just got right to the -- right to the point. That's good. That's good. Good question. Um... So you've, uh, probably heard the stories. Right? Anything ugly happens, any evil befalls the world, it's my fault. Fake news.
Jack: Who locked you up?
Lucifer: My Dad, 'cause I told the truth. See, he loved humans so much, he couldn't see their flaws. And I told Him about it, and He got mad. He got -- He felt like I was... personally dumping on His masterpiece, and so He kicked me out. No time-out, no 'go in the corner,' you know anything like that. Just... gone, banished. And yes, as Cas says, I have done some bad things. I had my reasons, and I just want the opportunity to get better. Doesn't everybody? Don't you?
Lucifer: So I want you to think about this. Your Grandfather is God. Think about that -- Of all the powerful families in history... Forget the Tudors, Trumps, Jackson Five. We're numero uno.
Lucifer: So I was just shaking up the old family tree for, uh, young Jack here. You know, talking about the good old days. How tough Pop was. Right, G? I mean, we -- we butted heads a lot, you know. But, uh... you know, I think -- I think, in hindsight, I should've given Him some slack 'cause, He's, uh. You know, being a dad is tough.
Gabriel: Okay, you think Dad was the 'bad guy,' and you were a victim? You were not a victim. That was just your excuse.
Lucifer: My excuse for what?
Gabriel: For it all, Lucifer. For it all.
Dean: Sam, go back there and check out what Helter Skelter's sayin' to the damn kid.
Mary: Dean, like it or not, Lucifer is Jack's father. He's going to take an interest in him.
Dean: So what, we're supposed to just let Lucifer drag him over to the dark side?
Mary: Jack isn't going to the dark side. He'll see Lucifer's true nature. And he'll see through his own eyes not yours.
Ketch: Are you familiar with a place called Boardwalk?
Angel: No.
Ketch: Well, it's very near Park Place. Go to Oriental Avenue and take the B&O Railroad straight to Hell.
Gabriel: Dude, it's me. I've known you since the stars were made. You can't change. You're incapable of empathy or love. You live to be worshiped or feared. Or both.
Lucifer: Okay. I-I see that you've -- you've drunk the Kool-Aid. Fine.
Gabriel: Oh, is this the part where you tell me that, uh, Dad made up all those so-called lies about you? Got it.
Lucifer: Yeah! Yeah, Pop locked me up, okay?
Gabriel: Don't you get it? Humans were innocent and beautiful. But you... you couldn't stand that the old man loved them more than He you. So you tempted them and corrupted them just to prove how flawed they were.
Lucifer: You better be careful man.
Gabriel: Dad saw that your evil was like the first few cells of cancer... that it would spread like the disease unless He cut it out. That is why He locked you up, to stop the cancer. But it was too late then. And guess what? It's too late for you now.
Castiel (AW): You align yourself with the h-humans.
Castiel: I vastly prefer them to angels.
Castiel (AW): Don't think that you are better than me. Well, we are the same.
Castiel: Yes. We are.
Lucifer: Sam, what are you doing, man? I'm hurt. Please.
Sam: How did you think this was gonna end?
Bobby: All right, listen up. We made it. Don't know much about this place, but it's a place without Michael, so that's a turn for the better. I don't want none of you goin' soft on me because we are going to get ourselves ready and go back home and set our people free.
Dean: He's been here for five minutes. Look who's taken over the joint.
Bobby: While we're celebrating, let's not forget our brothers and sisters who didn't make it. They will never be forgotten, and we will do right by them. And now a toast to our new brothers -- Sam and Dean Winchester. Thanks, boys. Welcome to the family.
Michael: Why should I trust you?
Lucifer: I saw how they do the spell. I know what it takes. It's some blood, some fruit, a glow-y rock, and then... Bam. We step through, both of us.
Michael: And then?
Lucifer: And then I get my son, and you get...
Michael: Everything else. Are we agreed?
