First Impressions: 4.04 Metamorphosis

With each of these reviews I'll include 2 cropped caps from the episode. One of Dean and one of Sam. I decided to do something different and make them b&w.
Consider these fanart. If you take either of them, please give credit. :)
Sorry for the long delay. Things have been so busy with filming and RL stuff. *sigh* As you'll see, I've returned to the more rambly, comment-while-it's-airing type of notes. I've left them "as is", so you'll see a lot of missed punctuation and lower-case on proper names. I think they're better this way, more spontaneous and fresh.
Note: "==============" signifies a commercial break.
Then: Revisits last week's episode.

“Not alone”....See, Sam....Dean's not going to give up on you.

So Sam is going to quit using his Jedi-mind tricks...yeah, but how can we believe that sam.....*doubts*
Another excellent episode! *loves Kim Manners* Gotta love all those gorgeous close-ups of the boys! That early scene in the motel room was one of Jensen & Jared's very best. All that conflict, yet all that brotherly love. It kept building and building until both brothers are on the verge of tears. As angry as Dean is, he still loves his little brother and isn't going to give up on him, no matter how much Sam puts up walls of lies to divide them. Sam's desperately sad eyes when Dean says that shocking line that if he didn't know Sam, he would want to hunt him. Could there be a more hurtful statement? When the phone rings and Sam tries to pull himself together to talk to Travis? That look in Dean's eyes at that moment...*tears up at memory*....Dean's so full of love and worry. It's all there in his eyes. Such a heart-wrenching expression that only breaks when Sam turns back to face him. Oh, boys...you really know how to rip out a fangirl's heart.
By the end of the episode, Sam renounces his special powers not for Dean or the angels, but "for himself". But how can we (or Dean) possibly believe that. Based on Dean's reaction, I'm pretty sure he's not buying it either. I'm loving and hating this conflict between the brothers. I love the dynamics being changed and the drama that this brings to the show, but it's so hard to see the boys divided. Hopefully they'll start talking more and sharing things again.
Btw, I spotted one continuity error. When the boys find Travis in their motel room, they enter and each hug him. They have their jackets on. The very next shot, as they've just walked over to the table to sit down? They're suddenly not wearing the jackets. Ooopsie. Heh. ;)
