raloriaI've abandoned my full-length episode reviews for these shorter, First Impressions posts.
With each of these reviews I'll include 2 cropped caps from the episode. One of Dean and one of Sam. I decided to do something different and make them b&w.
Consider these fanart. If you take either of them, please give credit. :)
I'm trying to get this posted as soon after the episode as possible, again by using caps made from my recording of the episode. Hopefully there's still some squee left out there. ;)
As you'll see, I've returned to the more rambly, comment-while-it's-airing type of notes. I've left them "as is", so you'll see a lot of missed punctuation and lower-case on proper names. I think they're better this way, more spontaneous and fresh.
Note: "==============" signifies a commercial break.

Another Friday the 13th ad!!!! :D
Okay...this is more like it. After the last two episodes that were in the "good, but not great" category for me, this was a welcome return to the excellence of this season. I was a little worried about the actor playing young Dean, but after watching the episode, I totally bought his performance. It really did work. Colin Ford, of course, totally rocked as young Sammy. I was initially a little worried also, about the massive height and age difference between the two, but they rarely appeared side by side in the episode, so that worked too.
What a nasty high school....outside of Mr. Wyatt, what an awesome teacher. I guess I got lucky. My high school really didn't have any cliques and I never recall witnessing the kind of name-calling that was shown at this school! Yikes. Sure there were the popular kids, the athletes, the creatives, the nerds, but somehow we all got along and mixed with each other as well.
So I liked this episode. It's always nice to see the boys from the past, getting more insight into who they were as kids. Turns out not too much has changed. The writing worked, as did the direction. I'm thinking these were all new folks in those departments, so good for them. Btw, I know it would have been nice to see a dedication to Kim Manners at the end, but this episode would have been locked way before his passing on Sunday, so it makes sense.
Instead, we sadly learn of two other deaths for the production. I found this on TV.com...
The episode is dedicated to the memory of Christopher F. Lima (rigging electrician) and Tim Loock (online editor).
We didn't get much from the promo for next week, but I'm looking forward to it....even though it's going to be a little awkward to watch it with my mom. Heh.
