Why can't people go to a SPN con and enjoy what opportunity it gives them? Why does it have to develop into wank online?

This is just the latest thing, but it's the final straw for me. I've got to say my piece. This is not going to just cover the latest Danneel bashing, but the Gen bashing as well.

Lets take Gen Cortese first. I don't know her. I'd never even heard of her before she came on SPN. I feel that for taking over the role done by another actress, she's done a very good job. I couldn't believe how some fans jumped on her acting after only seeing her on the screen in a few minutes of "Lazarus Rising". Really people? 'Cause saying 10 words really gives you an idea of a person's acting ability, right? I have no issues with her acting and I can't see the problems that others do have. I've seen emotion, voice inflection, good characterization, and clear enunciation. Am I seeing things others are not?

Most of all I see people criticizing her acting, but not offering up any specific examples. I'd like some. Give me a scene from an episode. Tell me what she did that you didn't like. Then....tell me how you would do it. If you can't do better, what are you complaining about? She's an actress doing her job and IMO a damned fine one.

Another thing....do you realize that no actor works alone? Filmmaking/TV production is not a solitary endeavor. It takes a small army to pull off the movies and TV shows we enjoy. First there's the Writer, creating the dialog for the actor to say. Then there's the Director, guiding the actor in the performance and direction the character and the scene should go. There's also the Director of Photography, capturing the actor with the right lighting and framing and setting the mood for the scene. Then there's the Editor, who, along with the Director, puts the final mark on the actor's performance in the scene by cutting it into a polished whole.

This is a collaborative process. So saying that you don't like the way an actress is acting is like saying all these other people are wrong also. And how about the person who cast the actress? Gee, they must have really screwed up to cast such a lousy actress, huh? Yet this is the same person who casts all the guest stars and perhaps even had a hand in casting Jensen & Jared. So when you criticize Gen, think about all the other people involved in shaping her performance in every scene. She's taking her cues from not only the script, but the Director and Kripke as well. If they want her to play a scene a certain way, she'll do that. It may not be what you think it should be, but I believe nobody but Kripke and the writers know the true plan of the show. They have the master plan, not us. We need to trust that whatever questions we have will be answered in the end.

If you have problems with Gen Cortese as an actress, that's one thing, but I've also read some very scathing remarks about her as a person (she's the reason for everything bad in the world? WTH?). Some of these have come from my own flist. Do you know Gen personally? Had an opportunity to talk with her? If all you're going by is fan reports (which can be biased and inaccurate) or by media interviews (which can be even more inaccurate), then you're not getting the whole picture. First impressions of a person are one thing, but the truth is often something very different. As I stated before, I don't know Genievieve at all. I only have her acting and a few interviews to base my own opinion, but the opinion I do have is positive. I'm sure she's got some unlikeable qualities (like we all do), but I don't know about them personally, so I can't judge her on them.

I also find it highly hypocritical of people to criticize Gen for her acting as Ruby when many of these same people felt the same way about Katie Cassidy when she originated the role in the first place. I remember reading so many posts and comments to comms about Katie's horrible acting and how they couldn't stand Ruby. Now a lot of those same people are all "Oh, I miss Katie as Ruby! She was great! She could act and Gen can't". Who do you think you're fooling people? If they replace Gen with another actress to take over as Ruby I suppose you'll suddenly love her and hate the new actress. It's a despicable trend for this fandom to fall into.

I know there are those on my Flist who do not like Gen Cortese. I've read your posts. They've made me cringe and wonder how people could generate so much hate. It's sad and really making me rethink our mutual friendings here on LJ. You've read my piece now, so if you disagree with me about her I think it's best that we part ways. Feel free to defriend me and I will return the favor.

Now for the latest fandom wank about Danneel Harris. So she went to the LA Con with Jensen. Is that a crime? He's her boyfriend for goodness sakes and I'm sure with his intensive shooting schedule that they don't get to spend a lot of time together. What's the big deal about her sitting behind him at the autograph table? Was she somehow standing between Jensen and the fans? Halting him for interacting with the fans getting their autographs? Not from what I've read.

What I have read, from various sources...is that she was possibly counting the number of things he was signing. So she was helping out. Just because she wasn't happy and bubbly doesn't constitute a reason to claim she was bitchy or unfriendly. So what if she looked bored. I've also read a few reports to the contrary, that she was friendly and accommodating to the few fans who did interact with her. Do you know for a fact that she was bored? Did you read her mind? Appearances can be deceiving. And if she was bored, so what? She wasn't there to entertain the fans, she was simply hanging out in the background. God forbid her for wanting to hang out with Jensen! Like we all wouldn't want to do the same thing if we knew Jensen personally?

I don't know Danneel and frankly, it really doesn't matter because Jensen does know her and likes/loves her. That's what matters. If he's happy with her around, I'm totally cool with that. I don't care what function they go to together. That's what people do when they're friends or dating. Just because we're his fans doesn't give us the right to say she shouldn't go to events with him. IMO they make a sweet couple and that's based purely on seeing photos of them together and nothing more. Basically, if Jensen's happy, I'm happy (not that it matters, because, again....it doesn't, I'm simply a fan). The guy deserves to be happy, so why can't people be happy for him instead of bashing his girlfriend? Just because he's attached and you've got no chance at him? Believe me, none of us has a chance with him, except in our wildest dreams. We'll have to be content with him there.

My earlier offer of defriendings goes the same way over Danneel. If we're mutual friends and you don't agree with me about Danneel and you dislike her that much, perhaps it's best that we part ways.

This also goes for anyone else who has friended me. You know my opinions now. Do with it what you will. If you stick around, I'm happy to have you. If not, that's okay, too.
