First Impressions: 4.19 Jump The Shark

With each of these reviews I'll include 2 cropped caps from the episode. One of Dean and one of Sam. I decided to do something different and make them b&w.

How much do I hate that CW logo? Let me count the ways...
I'm trying to get this posted as soon after the episode as possible, again by using caps made from my recording of the episode. Hopefully there's still some squee left out there. ;)
This time the notes were done half with the initial viewing and then filled out on the 2nd viewing.
Note: "==============" signifies a commercial break.
Recap: John and Sam, boys hunting, Sam's blood addiction
Blonde-haired nurse running in her house from....something. Okay, who else is thinking GA reference here? :P

And Dean's hungry....but not for old tuna sandwiches....gross!
John's phone rings...it's an Adam Milligan....says he's John's son...ooooh
Cousin Oliver's Diner...heee!
Dean thinks it's a trap, Sam says the kid checks out.
Heh....Dean swaps holy water for the regular stuff....puts real silver in place of the normal ones
Sam's pretty willing to believe this kid is for real. Says it's possible that John saved a girl and that girl was grateful....
Dean: “Well, now I'm thinking of Dad sex. Stop talking.”
Sam: “Maybe he slipped one past the goalie.”
Dean: “Dude!” Hee!
They're mechanics....suuuuuurrrrre they are. ;)
“A car fell on him.” *snigger* I'm sorry, but that was funny to think that a car took out John.
No demon here....Dean slips his gun out from under the table....
And silver has no effect either.....Dean puts the gun away....
The kid's got a good story....found out about John only a few years ago, John rushed to see him once he found out, taught him poker, bought him his first beer....once he brings up the car Dean's had enough. He's not buying and tells Adam he and Sam are John's sons.
John took him to a baseball game.....heh
Love Dean's reaction when Adam asks him what John did for his birthdays. And then that hurt look as he sees the picture of John with Adam's mom. Ouch. *hugs Dean*
Damn....I'm starting to feel for this kid...

Dean doesn't want to tell him anything about John.
Sam's come back with more research....back in 1990 there was a rash of grave robberies and John was there hunting something.
A bartender named Joe Barton is another recent victim.
Dean's found something......an air vent under the bed.
OMG! RockPaperScissors again! And Dean....”always with the scissors” loses again! LOL!!!!
Love the bits with Dean crawling through the air shafts....how cozy! :D

Oh, Dean doesn't want to tell...
Lets Sam tell him all about it, while he sits off away from them.....angry
Adam believes all of it, which Dean finds hard to believe.
He asks them if his mom might still be alive....yeah, I wouldn't bet on it, kid.
Dean storms out saying John wanted Adam protected and they should respect his wishes.
Sam decides to start teaching Adam. He knows about wanting revenge.

Dean's got the “Law & Order vibe” LOL
Asking about Joe the bartender, who it turns out was also a cop, working the case in 90.
Hmmm...might've worked with John.
Sam tells Adam that a demon killed John and Dean killed it....and the revenge is never over.
Uh oh....lights out.....that can't be good....
Sam & Adam on the run outside....head to Adam's car....Sammy!!!!
Whoah....Sammy almost got taken! Dean showed up just in time! Phew!

Yep...the kid parked right over the storm grate....
Dean winged it....
The boys figure out it's going after everyone John knew back in 90, including Adam.
Sam's ankle is hurt. Owie.
Sam wants to use Adam as bait! Yikes. He wants to train Adam so he's ready.
Dean's staying clear of the hunting teaching....letting Sam do it all.....hmmm....
Then Sam preaches that as a hunter you can't have any attachments and you can only count on family.
Dean's had enough, wants a meeting with Sam....
Points out that speech was the same one John gave to Sam before he took off for Stanford.
Sam says John was right and now he understands that John did what he had to.
Dean says it's too late for them, but not Adam....he can be normal.
Sam: “What makes Adam so special?”
Dean: “What? Are you jealous of the kid?”
Sam: “Are you?” Ouch boys.
Dean says John didn't have a choice with them, but he did with Adam.
Dean: “Adam doesn't have to be cursed.”
Sam: “He's a Winchester. He's already cursed.”
Dean goes off to check out the crypt again....
Ah, a loose stone in the wall.....yeesh, creepy little tunnel
Another crypt....with some fresh body parts...like Joe the bartender....”Sloppy Joe”
Oh, damn! He's buried in there!!!!Dean!!!!!
He says “Son of a bitch” twice. *giggles*
Meanwhile, Sam and Adam are closing the place up and getting ready...
It's Kate....or is it?
Dean's looking for a way out...And finds Kate's body...ewwwww
Sam wants Adam to shoot her....but he's in on it....Uh oh, Sammy!!!!
And Dean find's Adam's body as well.....oh, this isn't good at all!!!!

Adam was really their brother.....oh, ouch
God, they're bleeding him!

And he totally beats the hell out of “Adam”....yikes
Sammy!!!! Love the way he urgently calls to Dean for help....oh boys!!!!
And Dean takes care of little brother “Here you go, buddy.”....awwwww.....

They're salting and burning Adam's body.....accepting and acknowledging that he was their brother
Sam wants to call in Cas, maybe bring him back, but Dean says he's in a better place.
Dean says Sam was more like John than he could ever be and Sam takes it as a compliment.
Oh, boys....still a lot of separation and bitterness there.... :(
No Trickster at work this time. So that rumor was false. But this was still a good episode and the twist at the end was cool. Adam was very likable and I found myself caring about him almost immediately. I'm still against there being another Winchester, but since he's dead anyway, it really doesn't matter. What relationship he might have had with Dean and Sam we'll never know, but I'm with Dean, he's in a better place now.
It was interesting to see the attitudes the boys had towards him. Sam took up the role as teacher, preaching the life of hunting, getting him ready for everything out in the world. Dean was bitter, angry, jealous of the good life Adam got from John, the normal life he and Sam never got to have. But he also wanted to protect him from the life they have. Most of all, he was cautious, and for good reason. He was right to question this kid right off. His instincts were spot on and I'm so happy to have Dean once again in full-on hunter mode.
The boys are still approaching things differently and sometimes working against each other. There were a few brief moments of light in the darkness though. I could tell that Dean was sweating over Sam's possible predicament while he was trapped in the crypt. He knew Sam was in danger once he found those bodies. Sam calling out to Dean for help at the end was great, too. And of course, Dean was there, to help him and take care of him as he's always done, reminding Sam that's what family does. Did you get that Sammy? Family takes care of each other, doesn't lie. Um....yeah, I think Dean was definitely hinting at something there. But I still loved that moment...of him wrapping up Sam's bleeding arms. It was great to see something like that again. Sadly, at the end, we're left with more hurt feelings between the two. Sam's become John and Dean's left having to deal with that single-minded, driving revenge all over again. It hurts to see them like this, working together, but at odds with each other.
