With each of these reviews I'll include 2 cropped caps from the episode. One of Dean and one of Sam. I decided to do something different and make them b&w.

I'm trying to get this posted as soon after the episode as possible, again by using caps made from my recording of the episode. Hopefully there's still some squee left out there. ;)

These notes, as you'll see, were made during my 2nd viewing of the episode. I just wanted to sit and absorb everything from the episode in the initial viewing.

The Road So Far.... wow....action packed! Woot! :D

Okay, there's no way I can take notes during this in the first viewing. :P

[After watching the show air live, I re-watched it and took notes.]

We pick up right where we left off, with the boys clutching at each other as the room fills with light. They're trapped! Piercing sound assaults them and then....they're on a plane over Ilchester! WTH???? And the plane's going down!!!! Eeeep!

Nice new title card! A splash of blood and a heartbeat. I like it!

How'd they get off the plane? Now they're suddenly in a car (Ruby's?) and not liking all the bad news on the radio.
Sam wants to apologize, but Dean doesn't want to talk about it. They need to find Castiel.

Chuck's place is a disaster....
And Chuck comes out swinging....right for poor Sam's head with a toliet plunger. Ouch! Hee!
Cas is gone...exploded “like in a water balloon of chunky soup” ewwwww
And Chuck has a molar in his hair. :P
Zachariah....love Dean calling him ass-hat!
Zach: “You had a chance to stop your brother and you couldn't.”
I love how badass Dean is here. Hot damn, I missed you man!
Dean's hand is bleeding.......hee! Awesome! Dean learned the angel dispelling thing from Castiel! Whoo-hoo!!!!

I recognize this place!!!! *happy dances* It's the Front St. Parkade in New Westminster! Where they filmed the antique store scene in Bloody Mary and the ending in Nightshifter! *iz geek*

And he's not having demon blood withdrawl....interesting.
Sam tries to apologize again.....c'mon boys, you gotta patch this up.
Dean wants to get to the matter at hand.....finding lucifer.

But this dude's normal right now.....except for the uber disturbing nightmares/visions.

Sam comes back and he recognizes Meg right away. Huh.
Dean takes out one demon with the knife, but Meg gets away again. Darn!

And we're back in Delaware....
The guy is packing up baby stuff....hears crying from the baby monitor.....get the feeling that's not supposed to be. I love how calm this guy is about everything.
Oh dear....the crib is bleeding!!!!
Yeah, this is all kinds of messed up. Poor guy.

The boys have rushed Bobby to a hospital....be okay Bobby!
Dean says they can't stay, they've got to get to the sword before the demons do.
Love the scene of the boys gearing up from the trunk.....ah, old times!
Hmmmm....dead bodies on the floor of John's storage locker.
“Oh, thank God the angels are here.” LOL! Dean.
Zach and company again....”It's you, chucklehead. You're the Michael sword.” Ooooh.

Oh, crap. Zach's pulling out all the stops.....Bobby, Dean w/stomach cancer...oh God....Sam with no lungs.....Gah!!!!!!

Castiel to the rescue!!!!!! Yes!!!!
Oh, wow.....he's a lot tougher now. It's new and improved Cas!
“Now, put these boys back together and go. I won't ask twice.” Damn. I like the new Cas. :D
He carves Enochian sigils into their ribs! Ouchies!
The boys want to know how Cas is back, but he flutters away. Bah.

Back in Delaware and the guy is dreaming.....and Lucifer has come in the form of his dead wife, to ask for permission to possess him.
“I loved God too much. And for that he betrayed me, punished me.”
The devil can't bring back his family, but he can bring him justice and peace.
So....Lucifer doesn't lie....doesn't need to. Hmmm.....
And he accepts...

I love Dean's speech here....
Dean: ”What if we win? I'm serious. I mean screw the angels and the demons and their crap apocalypse. They wanna fight a war, they can find their own planet. This one's ours and I say they get the hell off it. We take'em all on. We kill the devil, hell we even kill Michael if we have to, but we do it our own damn selves.”
Bobby: “And how are we supposed to do all this genius?”
Dean: “I got no idea. But what I do have is a GED and a give'm hell attitude and I'll figure it out.”
Bobby: “You are nine kinds of crazy boy.”
Dean: “It's been said.”
That's what I'm talkin' about! Woot!
Awww....Bobby tells Sam it was the demon talking before, not him. He's not cutting Sam out, not ever.

Sam suggests going after the Colt. Yes! You guys need it!
Dean gave that big speech for Bobby's benefit. He doesn't believe a word of it.
Here we go.....let's get this over with boys....
Sam: “Dean. Is there something you wanna say to me?”
Dean: “I tried Sammy. I mean I really tried. But I just can't keep pretending that everything's alright. Because it's not. And it's never going to be. You chose a demon over your own brother and look what happened. “
Sam: “I would give anything...anything to take it all back.”
Dean: “I know you would. And I know how sorry you are, I do. But man....you were the one I depended on the most....and you let me down in ways that I can't even... I'm just, I'm having a hard time forgivin' and forgettin' here, you know?”
Sam: “What can I do?”
Dean: “Honestly? Nothin'. I just don't....I don't think that we can ever be what we were, you know? I just don't think I can trust you.”
Oh, boys.....*wibbles*
And Dean walks over to the car...a visual chasm between him and Sam.

As anticipated, this Season Five premiere delivered the goods. It might simply be my "Yay! It's great to have the boys back" enthusiasm talking, but I really liked the episode. Ripe from my VanCon experience, I think I looked at the boys a little differently, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment.

A few thoughts:
* The whole going from the plane to riding in the car felt very jarring, but in light of the revelation that maybe God was behind it, it kinda makes sense. Woulda been nice to have seen them transported from the plane to wherever, but oh well.
* The bit with Dean dispelling Zach & his buddies like Castiel did in the S4 finale has got me thinking. We've only seen that done prior to this by angels: Anna and Castiel. Does this show that a mere human can do the same thing or does it show that Dean is a bit more special than we think? Hmmmm.
* I'm a little disappointed that Sam isn't going to suffer from demon blood withdrawl. Time will tell whether it's really true, however. After all, it took a while for it kick in before.
* You gotta wonder how Bobby got possessed. The man knows his stuff. Surely he'd be wearing a charm like he gave the boys in BUABS....or something. And you'd think the boys would've picked something up from Bobby about doing the Holy Water test when you haven't seen someone in a while.
* I understand that we can't expect the brothers to be all buddy, buddy and hugging right out of the gate, and while the final scene was hard to watch, it was necessary. Dean finally said his piece. He doesn't trust Sam anymore. Sure, they probably can't go back to the way things were, but that doesn't mean they can't come close in time. We're going to see them patch this relationship up over the course of the season. It will get better. *thinks positively*

Awesome episode, awesome start of Season Five! Can't wait for more! :D
