After so much anticipation about this episode I can say I wasn't dissappointed. The angst was toned down a bit, I think, but it was still there. So next week we'll begin with the holiday break reruns. *Grumble...grumble* Ah well...repeats are still good. I'll keep watching no matter what episodes they show. Gotta have my weekly dose of Dean and Sam.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a new director on this episode for SPN. I really liked the cinematic camera angles and artistic shots. There were lots of extreme overhead and below shots throughout the episode as well as nice editing such as the cuts to the close-up shots of the motel room door where the doctor was hiding.

* Love the scene in the restaurant. Sam's all upset because Dean is now in the Fed's database and Dean is just making light of the whole situation and claiming Sam's just jealous. Btw, did anyone else catch the flipped shot of Dean at the end where he says the line "What? They could."? Not only does Jensen's face look weird (which is what initially tipped me off), but if you look at the text on the papers he's holding up, it's clearly backwards. I suspect they flipped this shot to avoid crossing the 180 degree line. In the flipped shot, Sam is to the right of the screen. If they had not flipped the shot, Sam would have been on the left side of the screen and that would have been "crossing the line". They were obviously trying to go with the lesser of two evils here and chose to flip the shot. Too bad I've got a sharp eye for these things. Heh heh.

* Those suits are really getting a workout this season. Not that I'm complaining....*g*

* It just cracks me up that Dean doesn't know what MySpace is. "Seriously is that like some kind of porn site?" *gigglesnort* Oh, and his expression after he says "and they're real" is just priceless.

* The scene with the doctor in her room was pretty good. In fact, the actual part of the hellhound attacking her was very well done and very violent. The tearing of her pant leg, the scratches, and her being dragged off camera so quickly...that was some great work. The one part that didn't work for me here (or maybe it did, depends on how you look at it) was when the manager comes to the door and wants his money. So she gets the money and opens the door, only to have the manager go all scary on her and start growling. Then she freaks out and (this is the part that kills me) tosses the money at him before slamming the door in his face! LOL! It was like "yikes! Get away from me....and here's your money!". Just cracks me up each time I see it.

* Oh how I love those Impala door creaks! I'm so glad Dean didn't fix her up too much.

* Nice scene with the boys at the crossroads and figuring the whole thing out. It's always good to see the boys out in the sun, especially when most of the rest of the episode took place at night. Lovely close-ups here too.

* Interesting morals here with Dean. In his eyes, these people who made a deal with the demon are not innocents, they're just people who are getting what they deserved. He sees no point in trying to save any of them. Sam, on the other hand, believes just the opposite. Despite the poor choice they made, they need to be helped.

* The prop guy sure had a field day with George's apartment. Lots of creeping looking stuff in there, not to mention all those scary paintings.

* Dean's got some great reflexes...his catch of that bag of Goofur dust was impressive!

* "Well, we know a little about a lot of things. Just enough to make us dangerous." My favorite Dean line of the episode...and so true of the brothers.

* You gotta feel for George...he knows he's responsible for the trouble he's brought not only to himself, but to the others who made a deal. Now, he just wants it to be over and won't accept Sam and Dean's help.

* Loved seeing Dean kick a door open again. Too bad that darned curntain was sort of in the way. And then Sam stopped him from kicking the second door open...Sam's just no fun at all sometimes. I've been waiting for Dean to get back to his door-kicking self. *g*

* Another choice piece of acting by Jensen when Evan explains how he made the deal with the demon to save his dying wife. This hits Dean too close to home. "What if she knew how much it cost? What if she knew it cost your soul. How do you think she'd feel?" Sam wisely pulls Dean away, knowing this is about their dad. The scene in the hallway is also excellent. Both of them expressing their beliefs about the deal that John possibly made to save Dean. Dean is going to go and summon the demon and this scares Sam because he knows Dean's feeling guilty over their dad's death.

* Figures that Dean would get a snarky-yet-evil demon to deal with. Her whole attitude was rather amusing to me. It was a nice mix of humor mixed with evil.

* "I'd heard you were handsome, but...you're just edible." She just voiced the same sentiments of hundreds of DeanGirls out there. *Sigh* Yes...handsome....and edible, thank you very much. *g*

* LOL. I loved it when the hellhound started scratching at the door and Sam quickly stepped into the ring of Goofur dust with Evan. It was like "hmmm...I think I'll step into the circle now." Heehee.

* The demon really tortures Dean. Telling him about all his fears and pain and guilt. It clearly effects him, even though he tries to fight it. You can see him trying to decide what to do once she walks away. The question of course is, would Dean have made the deal to bring his dad back. We get our answer (sort of) by the end of the episode when Sam asks him and Dean just changes the music playing in the car. I think he was stongly tempted. He's always put the value on his life below that of others, but knowing that his dad sacrificed himself has made those feelings even stronger. Dean feels he doesn't deserve to be alive and his dad dead. So I think he did think about making the deal, but didn't because of Sam. Sam is the only thing keeping Dean going. Sam is the most important personin his life that's still alive and the only one of his family that Dean can still protect and save. But, having said that, I do think Dean has a bit of a deathwish. He is more willing to die now than he ever was before.

* Okay, who else was just waiting for Dean to say "gotcha!" when the demon looked up and saw that Devil's Trap above her in the gazebo? I mean, come on...we got a repeat of the "yahtzee" line but not "gotcha"?

* Pretty cool computer effects with the clawmarks on the floor!

* "Oh you're just gonna go on a little trip...way down south" Heh heh. And listening to Dean speak all that Latin was just as hot as I thought it would be. Too bad we didn't get too many shots of him actually speaking it. But the whole exocism sequence was nicely edited together...the building music, Dean's Latin, the wind blowing away the Goofur dust and Sam and Evan trying to get away from the hellhound.

* Okay...I just have to say...that was one smoldering kiss between Dean and the demon. Like...wow! Dean's line is great too "You know I usually like to be warned before I'm violated by demon tongue."

* So Dean then goes from going ahead with the exorcism to backing off and letting the demon go. But then she had to turn all nasty again and tell him about his dad suffering in hell. Suddenly, Dean was ready to finish the job, but the demon escaped into a black cloud. These demons aren't all that brave, are they? That one escaped from Sam after the truck hit the Impala and now this one runs off too. They're a pretty evil bunch, but I guess there's some things even demons won't die for.

* The whole final scene in the car is excellent. We're left with one more angsty scene between the brothers...

Dean: "How could he do it?"
Sam: "He did it for you."
Dean: "Exactly. How am I supposed to live with that?"

Kripke, you're breaking my heart here. Dean expresses that John should have died fighting the demon, and not bargaining with it. He feels their dad's legacy has been lost. But Sam brings up all the lives John saved and the fact that they've saved so many lives because of what their dad taught them. They are now John's legacy...as long as they continue to fight against evil and save lives their dad will live on through them.

Soon! What does soon mean!!! Wow! This was a great promo for the next couple of episodes. It seems like it was all about the episodes "Croatoan" and "Hunted". Question though...what episode is that bit where Dean is bound and gagged in a chair and there's that big explosion behind him? Don't remember reading anything like that in any of the up-coming script sides. I can hardly wait! So much to look forward to here, but especially where Dean is going to tell the big secret to Sam. Oooooh...it's going to be so good!
