Sorry once again for posting this so late. I've been told by a few, that it's okay and you don't mind waiting. Well, me, being the perfectionist I am, mind. I really don't enjoy posting these reviews over a week after the episode has aired. Back in season two I always managed to get my review up at least by Friday morning or Saturday at the very latest. Ah, well...enjoy the review and the caps. :)

If you want a little bit more of my thoughts check out my First Impressions Post for this episode. Please remember that the caps here are just small for the review. I'll be posting the full sized caps in a regular picspam later on.

All the caps within this review were taken from my own Hi-Def recording of the episode. You're free to take any that you like, as long as you give me credit. There are 104 caps, but most of them are clickable thumbnails in consideration of my fellow dial-up users.

* The teaser is nicely done, setting up the start of the case the boys are about to investigate. Nice scream! *giggles*

* Why is seeing Dean working on the Colt so damned sexy? Sam's found some demonic signs and omens in Elizabethville, Ohio.

Dean: There's gotta be a demon or two in South Beach.
Sam: Sorry, Hef, maybe next time.

All I could think of was Jensen's remark that he'd like the brothers to hunt down supernatural beings somewhere tropical for once. *g*

I love how amused and cute Sam is in this scene. His smile is adorable. *pinches his cheeks* Which of course makes him seem that much darker near the end of the episode.

* Suits!!! *dies from handsome brother overload* Okay, who figured the Father was one of the demons all along? Show of hands. Yeah, I didn't. My mom did though. Hmph. Anyway, he goes on about the poor guy who shot himself in the teaser, how he was so normal, sang in the church choir, and then one day wasn't himself anymore. He says the whole town has changed. The name of the hobby shop victim...Tony Perkins...heh...as in Anthony Perkins, the actor who starred in Hitchcock's "Psycho".

* Heh...these motel rooms. Dean's a happy camper. He has mirrors on the ceiling and as we'll see in a little bit, Magic Fingers yet again.

* Ritchie is a nice enough guy, but other than give the guys info. on the Trotter guy, he really doesn't have that much to do. He's sort of like a comic relief character. You could easily take him out of the story, have the brothers find out about Trotter some other way, and the episode wouldn't lose a thing.

Excuse me while I drool a bit over Dean as he takes off his jacket...and pulls out his shirt...and rolls up his sleeves...*flails* What? Was Ritchie talking? I'm sorry...I was kind of distracted...

* "Run Through The Jungle" by CCR - awesome song choice for this scene! Too cute watching Dean stop by the car with the prostitute and Sam pulling him away. LOL!

* Okay, the "release the hostages" line was pretty funny. A little crude, but funny. Dean's reaction was great, just the like the one he used with naked Ash in Simon Said.

* Lots of cute Dean flirting with Casey the bartender. So the Father hangs out at the bar...curious. Sam spots a guy with a gun and it's flying Dean to the rescue. Turns out it was just a guy going after the scumbag who slept with his wife and no demon possession. Better luck next time guys. Trotter gives Sam a stern look, the boys split before the reporters can show up to take their picture for the local papers, and then Dean wonders where Ritchie is.

* Ritchie has gone off with Casey to her place, a lovely Gothic basement/wine cellar. Within seconds she goes from lighting candles to flashing demonic eyes and snapping Ritchie's neck. Ouch!

* Back at the bar, presumably the next day, Dean's trying to get Ritchie on the phone and ignoring a perfectly good burger sitting in front of him.

Sam: You do realise there's red meat within striking distance, right?

Dean's worried about Ritchie because he doesn't really know what he's doing and it's going to get him killed. Sam wonders if he just bailed out on the case.

Dean: He's a moron. You know, he's a sweet moron, but he's not a coward. He wouldn't just bail.

The brothers decide to split up: Dean to look for Ritchie and Sam to check out Trotter, who he's suspicious of.

* Bobby's test firing the Colt when who should happen by, but Ruby. Revealing that she's a demon she then offers herself up as a test target and after a bit of taunting she gets a bullethole in her shirt. Heh. She then offers help Bobby with the gun.

* Sam's hanging outside Trotter's office and gets a call from Dean. He quickly tells Dean he can't talk now and to meet him at the bar.

* So Dean goes to the bar and is propositioned by a prostitute, who he quickly turns down. Turns out he's only got eyes for Casey and after more flirting the two of them are leaving the bar together.

* Trotter & his bodyguard leave the office and Sam moves in to look around. I knew something was up when they didn't lock the door - Sam just walked right in! Sam gets attacked by the bodyguard, who he deftly gets the upper hand on, but then quickly has a gun pressed to his cheek by Trotter. In a move that would make big brother, Dean proud, he gets the gun away from Trotter and then proceeds to make sure the two aren't demons by splashing some holy water at them. When nothing happens Sam realizes his mistake and rather adorably gets himself out of there. Jared does a great job here, all nervous smiles and apologies. "Uh...Have a nice day?" *giggles*

* At Casey's basement she gives Dean a chaste little kiss as they enter the main room. I was almost hoping for something more there, but still...another kiss for Dean! Dean then mentions that he tracked Ritchie's phone with a GPS unit and gave the guy a proper burial. Casey charges him but is abruptly stopped. Smart Dean left a Devil's Trap on her floor and with her stuck inside he prepares to exorcise her. Casey has some tricks up her own sleeves and soon has Dean's book flying out of his hands and the entrance to the basement blocked off with a cave in.

Dean: What are you laughing at bitch, you're still trapped.
Casey: So are you....bitch.

* Dean tries to go on with the exorcism, but can't remember the words. Jensen still rocks at speaking Latin, btw and having Dean struggle with the words was brilliant. Casey, while trapped is thoroughly enjoying herself. "Nice try, but I think you just ordered a pizza." But Dean's not worried 'cause he knows Sam will come looking for him. Casey points out that Sam's the brains of the outfit and that the Winchester boys are famous, "not Lohan famous, but you know...". She's also working with someone and they'll have to wait and see who shows up first.

* Back at the bar, Sam is anxiously waiting for a now late Dean and being eyed by the earlier seen prostitute like he's a slab of fresh meat. Finding out from the bartender that Dean left with Casey for her place, Sam takes off to investigate.

* Dean finds out that Casey isn't directly responsible for the changes in the town. She simply had lunch with Trotter and made some suggestions for "a few businesses that cater to harmless vice". The citizens of the town did the rest.

Casey: Supposedly God-fearing folk, waist deep in booze, sex, gambling. I barely lifted a finger.
Dean: That's it?
Casey: You don't get it. All you gotta do is nudge humans in the right direction, some whiskey here a hooker there, and they'll walk right into hell with big, fat smiles on their faces. Your kind is corrupt, Dean. Weak. Our will is stronger. That's why we'll win.
Dean: And that's how it ends?
Casey: No. That's how it begins.

* Sam carefully checks out Casey's place and makes sure he calls out Dean's name just in case. *g* He wouldn't want to catch big brother gettin' some lovin' again. Heh. I'm not sure I'm making the right connection here, but did you catch the little joke when he steps on the Pig slipper and it squeals a bit. Perhaps a little call-back to that great line from Dean in the Pilot? "You mean misdemeanor kind of trouble or squeal like a pig trouble?" Heehee! That's what it made me think of anyway. Sam then finds some sulfer and looks more worried than ever. Awwwww. *squishes concerned Sammy*

* Back to Dean and Casey. She questions his belief in God and he answers that he'd like to believe. The demons are surprised by the growing human body count.

* Sam returns to the bar and places a hasty call to Bobby for help. Getting nowhere with the bartender (who calls him a princess - Teehee!), he sees the Father still enjoying a drink.

* Now we come to one of the meatier scenes between Dean and Casey. She reveals that Lucifer (which means "Light Bringer") is real, though nobody's ever seen him. Word has it one day he'll return and she has faith.

Casey: So you see, is my kind really all that different from yours?
Dean: Well...'cept that demons are evil.
Casey: And humans are such a lovable bunch. Dick Cheney.
Dean: He one of yours?
Casey: Not yet. Let's just say he's got a parking spot reserved for him downstairs.

I'll admit, that line was kind of shocking to hear. Still funny, though. I applaud the show for being gutsy enough to go that far. Knowing he's on his way there, Dean then asks what hell is like.

Casey: You're not gonna like it, Dean. And um...judging by the trouble you've caused, I don't think you'll be getting the Presidential suite. No, it's a pit of dispair. Why do you think we want to come here?

The expression on Dean's face says so much. He's probably wondered what it will be like, but hearing it from one who would know is a different matter. Jensen, yet again, does a lovely job showing Dean's walls starting to crumble.

* Sam asks the Father where Casey and Dean might be and the gentile Father says he knows of a place. Offering to go with Sam we, the audience, get a big reveal of his demon eyes before they leave. Uh, oh!

* Okay, it's kind of annoying how they keep jumping back and forth between the 2 brothers here. I mean, it works in the episode, but it sure is bothersome for writing an in-depth review. Anyway, we're back with Dean & Casey...

Casey: You're alright Dean. The others don't describe you that way. But you know, you- you're likable.
Dean: A demon likes me. Sorry, I don't know how to respond to that.
Casey: You could say thanks.
(a pause between them)
Casey: That deal you made to save Sam? A lot of others would mock you for it. Think it was weak or stupid. I don't.
Dean: It's been kind of liberating actually. I mean what's the point of worrying about the future when you don't have one. Huh?
Casey: Still....a year to live. You're not scared?
Dean: Nah.
Casey: Not even a little?
Dean: Of course not.

Oh, Dean. I knew all that brave show just hid the real fear you have about selling your soul. *wants to hold him close* And Jensen, you are the master of facial subtlety. For the first time we get to see what Dean is really feeling. Sam isn't there to put the game face on for and all that's left is the cold, hard, brutal truth - Dean is scared. Whether he's just scared for himself, or for leaving Sam alone and unprotected we don't know.

* I really enjoy this conversation in the car between the Father and Sam. On one level it's just about the Father asking Sam about the insurance work he and his brother do, but on another level it's all about seeing how open Sam is towards being a leader...of demons. "Somehow I see you out in front of the pack. You could do some great things." Heh, heh, heh. The red light hitting them from the back is also a nice semi-demonic touch. The "brother's keeper" line was great too, 'cause really, that's what Sam has become right now.

* I dunno, maybe I'm missing something, but that didn't exactly look like a lustful look on Dean's face to me. Oh well. Casey's stretching her back and being all seductive, but Dean's not buying.

Dean: Hey, can I ask you a question?
Casey: I'm an open book.
Dean: So the gate opened...the demon army was let out. What now? Huh? I'm not seein' a big honkin' plan here.
Casey: Honestly? There was a plan. Azazal was a tyrant, but...he held us all together.
Dean: Azazal?
Casey: What you think his friends just called him Yellow Eyes? He had a name. After you did him in, it all fell apart.
Dean: Sorry about that. So what? No chain of command?
Casey: There was. It was Sam. Sam was supposed be the grand poohbah and lead the big army, but he hasn't exactly stepped up to the plate, has he?
Dean: Thank God for that.
Casey: (laughs) Again with God. You think this is a good thing? Now you've got chaos. A war without a front. Hundreds of demons all jockeying for power, all fighting for the crown. Most of them gunning for your brother. (pause) For the record? I was ready to follow Sam.

Once again, I love the performance Jensen gives here with just his eyes and facial expressions. The news that Sam was expected to lead the demon army isn't news to the audience, but it is to Dean. His concern for his brother has just stepped up a notch.

* Sam & the Father arrive and Dean speaks to Sam through a grate, telling him to be careful. Btw, I love how panicked Sam's voice is upon seeing his brother again. Awwww... Sam turns around and is met by the Father who flashes his demonic eyes. A shot hits a nearby statue and it's Bobby with the Colt! Yay! But he gets thrown to the ground and Sam is thrown into the car's windshield before either of them can make any attack on the possessed Father. Bobby gives Sam the Colt and Ruby's there too, urging him to go after the demon.

The demonic lovers are reunited after Dean gets thrown into a wall and the Father breaks the Devil's Trap. Dean revives and is surprised to see the two of them together. Casey wants to just leave, but the Father wants revenge and starts to strangle Dean. A shot rings out and the Father's been shot with the Colt. Dean tries to stop Sam from killing Casey as well, but it's too late. The second shot hits her and Dean looks at his brother in shock. Sam's face is one of cool, hatred.

* We next see Bobby and Dean walking on a busy street in town. Dean's not sure they really accomplished anything there because the town is still corrupt. Bobby points out that 2 demons are now dead and "humans ain't our job". Still, Dean feels bad about Casey's death.

Bobby: Well, it had to be done. Sam was saving your life.
Dean: Yeah, but you didn't see it Bobby, it was cold.

Dean then has to ask the question that's been bothering him ever since that night the Devil's Gate opened in Wyoming. He tells Bobby that the YED said something to him about Sam maybe coming back different. He then asks him the ultimate question, "You think there's something wrong with my brother?" *heart breaks* I love it that he said " my brother" instead of Sam. It just really adds an emotional cord to the question. Sam's his little brother and he loves him. So much that he was willing to bring him back from the dead. Now Sam's not exactly acting like himself and Dean's afraid that what the YED said is true. Anyway, Bobby ponders for a second and then answers, "Nah. Demons lie. I'm sure Sam's okay." Dean looks more defeated then ever, but his words try and paint a rosier picture, "Yeah. Yeah, me too."

* The last scene is between Sam and Ruby. He's now showing the remorse over the 2 human lives he earlier took so callously. Ruby, on the other hand wants to celebrate. She points out he probably did them a favor anyway because most people don't survive demonic possession too well. He still wants to know why she's helping him, but she won't disclose that info. Getting fed up with her taunts about promising to help Dean he threatens to shoot her with the Colt. He soon backs off, illiciting a "that's my boy" from Ruby. How creepy and wrong that sounded coming from her! That's Dean's line! She then outlines what the future holds.

Ruby: This won't be easy Sam. You're gonna have to do things that go against that gentle nature of yours. There'll be collateral damage. But it has to be done.
Sam: Well I don't have to like it.
Ruby: No. You wouldn't be Sam if you did. On the bright side...I'll be there with you. That little fallen angel on your shoulder.

I really love the way this scene was shot with all the closeups. Very pretty. And the final shot with Sam in focus and Ruby out of focus behind him was very nice.

Another great episode that gave a great deal of info. about the demons and the state of the current war. The scenes between Dean and Casey were the most telling as she seemed to be giving him truthful answers to all his questions. Yet more proof that not all demons are the same. And I love that they're following through on the "not-100%-pure-Sam" storyline. It's great to see Jared continue to grow as an actor and flesh out more to Sam's character. So all in all, another big thumbs up from me! :D
