Think you know every SPN episode inside and out? So did I, but a new HDTV with a great picture and sound changed all that. I started to see things that I'd never noticed before. After a while I decided to make a list of all the things big and small that I came across, episode by episode.
I'd like to think of this as an in-depth look into Supernatural. It's a collection of interesting observations, continuity errors, goofs, filmmaking techniques, statistics, important (or not so important) information, trivia, and anything else that struck me as unusual.
In which episode did Dean first kick in a door?
How many episodes has Sam been the coffee boy?
In which episodes can you see a crew member or the camera?
When do Jared & Jensen do their own stunts and when do we see their stunt doubles?
You'll learn the answers to these questions and many more.
I'll be examining each episode in order, one at a time. Some of the info. will probably be well known to most of you, but I hope to point out some new discoveries as well.
All the caps in these posts are my own. While most of these will not be suitable for other uses, due to my cropping and highlighting, you're free to take any that you like. All I ask is that you give me credit for them. Thanks! :D
Mysterious Numbers: At 00:00:31 you can see #156 appear on the screen with Laurie and Taylor. It's only there for about 2 frames. We'll see numbers like this appear in a few other episodes as well.

Does this bridge look familiar? This is the first time we see it, but it shows up again in Season Three's "Fresh Blood" in the opening scene betweeen Gordon and Bela.

At the coffee shop we see Dean's journal for the first time.

Check out some of the links on the right side of the online newspaper article...Who knew pedestrians in Iowa were so unruly? Oh, and then there's the newsflash that "Poorly lit areas are prone to crime"...lol...really? And then my favorite: "No picnic, but a school that's lots of fun".

Location Blooper: In the aerial shot of the car driving you can see palm trees. They're supposed to be in Iowa. Ooops.

When the guys are talking to Laurie for the first time their shots are soft focus for some reason.
In the wide shot they're in focus and everything's sharp.

But the medium shot is very different. Why this was done, I have no idea. Personally, I find it very distracting, but I suppose they had their reasons.

This is just a cool filmmaking observation on my part. How do you use the environment to your advantage? Shots of the boys through the shelves as they stop in the library to talk about Laurie and the Hook Man legend.

First (and so far only) use of the Impala's spotlight.

Regular Feature: Trunk Prop: Dean props the trunk interior on the right side.
You'll also recognize this scene from the S1 blooper reel where Jensen ends up hitting himself in the face with a shotgun. Ouch!

Dean does a little mouth click after he and Sam get out of the Impala and climb up the stone wall to get into the sorority house. A little signal to Sam maybe?

Continuity Error: After the boys get out of the Impala to search the house and church for silver, Dean leaves the car carrying the duffel bag in his hand in the wide shot. In the next CU it's already on his shoulder.

Hope you enjoyed this revealing look at Hook Man.

Beware! This post is very image heavy.
