I like to think of myself as technologically minded. In college I learned a lot about computers...PCs and Macs. I can be geeky with the best of them. Yet somehow this whole Macintosh operating system has fried my brain cells.

Because how else can you explain how I managed to pull off such a bone-headed move as this one...

I've had this MacBook Pro since Dec. 1st...assuming...as it says on Best Buy's website, that it came "preinstalled" with Leopard (the newest Mac operating system). When I first turned on my laptop, I dutifully followed along with the instructions (and clearly was not paying full attention to what was going on). I saw a disc in the box with Mac OSX Leopard written across it, but assumed it was just a backup disc. My laptop came with Leopard "preinstalled", so no worries, right?

Wrong! It's taken me almost a month, but I now realize (D'oh!) that this MacBook Pro is running the previous operating system (Tiger) and not Leopard!!!! *headdesk* So naturally, two questions come to mind....

- Is Best Buy's understanding of the term "preinstalled" different from mine?
I mean, to me..."preinstalled" means already installed....hmmmmmm.
- What idiot thought to name operating systems after cats anyway?
It's too friggin' confusing. Give me Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98....now those are some names that make some sense!

So apparently I need to install Leopard myself. Grrrrrr. Good news...it's right there on the disc. Bad news....I hope it's simpler than it looks, 'cause there's really no instructions outside of the little insert with the disc (but it says there's a help pdf file on the disc - hope they're right). Oh, and of course this means backing up all the stuff I've put on the laptop so far. Yeah...good times. Luckily, it's not a lot of stuff, but still enough to be a bit of a pain in the butt.

Yet another task to add to my ever-growing To-Do List! *sigh*

Oh, wait, maybe that's just the laptop. Ha! Maybe...

I'm working with the NeoOffice software on the Mac right now, which I must say is just as good as OpenOffice. :D

Take a look at what I see on my desktop right now... )
