Well, that's 3 and a half hours of my life I won't get back. *sigh*

Got online tonight, opened my usual browser (Opera) and pretty soon, my GPU is running hot and the fans are loud. WTH??? I see this Opera Helper is using a lot of CPU. Weird. I try another browser - same thing. Either there's a Helper file using a lot of CPU or the browser itself is using a lot. What the eff???

I'm frantically searching online for whatever this problem is. Is it malware? I start doing a scan with my Avast software. But it's constantly monitoring me, so the system should be clean. What about that new download of PhotoScape I just got the other night? But that was from the Apple Store. It should be clean, right?

I couldn't figure it out. I tried a few suggested fixes. No change.
I could only stay with one browser open for a while and then I'd shut it down so my fans would get a break.
Then I started closing that Helper file process - that cooled things down, but when I re-opened the browser it would just run the CPU hot again. *sigh*

Eventually, I noticed something...in a couple of the browsers the site only2clicks.com (a visual bookmarking site) was shutting down with a white screen that said it had run out of memory. WTH??? Weird.

Then I opened Google Chrome and made sure only2clicks DIDN'T open with the browser's start.
I closed, then re-opened the browser...no more high CPU usage!!!!

I opened Opera again and instantly closed the tab for only2clicks and everything was fine.

So the problem is with that website, only2clicks.com! Geez!
Which sucks, because I use that site for all of my bookmarks, have for years now. It's had it's issues, but never anything like this! Crazy. So it looks like I'll be avoiding only2clicks for a little while. Hopefully, it gets fixed soon. Gah!

/ Returns you all back to your day/evening. :P

Somehow in the process of having an external hard drive hooked up to my laptop, a whole folder of photos & videos from VanCon 2016 just disappeared! It went from being a folder of several GB to a file of 1KB.

Gaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!

Thankfully, the original photos & videos are still on my camera and I can back them up again.
So frustrating though!

My laptop is running out of room and memory, so I've been trying to back-up files on external hard drives and even online, but in trying to back-up the files I keep running into issues (like programs or the entire laptop freezing up) because of the lack of room and memory. It's quite the conundrum.

I realized there was 12GB of photos & videos in my iPhoto Library, so I was backing those onto the external hard drive in order to delete them off the system. But it's also giving me problems. *sigh* I'm like, "Just let me back up these files all nicely and you'll HAVE more room, laptop!!!!!" I know the laptop's old, but I do not need these temper tantrums! Grrrrr!

When am I gonna learn?

128 GB Flash Drives officially SUCK!

Years ago I had one by Kingston that got all corrupted and I had to format it. Lost all the files. It's still kinda touchy.

Bought a new one recently...PNY this time. I've had lots of flash drives by this company, so I thought it was safe. No such luck. My Mac won't recognize it anymore. Tried Disk Utility and it can't repair it. Gah!

Wouldn't you know...I put the VanCon 2014 photos on there that I had cropped and was going to post as Fanart. So I'll most likely have to re-do those all over again. And I can't even remember what else was on the flash drive - important stuff, I'm sure. Grrrrr.

I'm trying to search for some kind of free software that will recover the files...if possible.

Luckily, the VanCon photos themselves are backed up on an external HD, along with still being on the camera's memory card itself.

So no Daily Fanart VanCon piece today.
Shoot. :(

  • A photo-op with Jensen, Jared, & Misha is now available for Toronto Con next month. Color me jealous. This NEEDS to be added to VanCon next year...not to mention all the Creation SPN cons. *g*

  • Already way behind on my TV viewing. Still have most of So You Think You Can Dance to watch and now I'm 3 eps behind on Parenthood. And because Castle, Hawaii Five-O, and Revolution are all on at the same time, that means I have to watch Castle live and download the other 2. This is going to be a busy TV season. Oy.

  • Have resumed capping SPN Season 7...this time on my MacBook Pro. Didn't know if it would work, because I've been using my PC for 1-14 of S7 and the settings on VLC are different between the two machines. However, I capped 7x14 and they turned out fine. I've already done 7x15 and I'll see about capping 7x16 tonight.

  • Got a request for caps from the Season 7 Gag Reel, so I'm in the process of sorting/deleting and will soon have those fixed and ready for posting. Have thought of capping the "Angeles" video, too. Anyone interested?

  • Still in the slow process of uploading zipped folders of my VanCon photos to MediaFire. At over 800 photos for the J2 Panel alone, I had to break it up into 12 folders. The good news is, I only have 5 more to do! Then I'll be able to upload a few samples to PhotoBucket or Scrapbook and the posting will commence soon afterward. Hopefully everyone will still be interested in seeing them a full month after the event.

  • I've chosen the 25 caps that will be in my Name That Cap Challenge 3 Final on Oct. 2nd. Person who gets the most correct wins 3 icons made by me. I've been asked to continue the challenge on Tumblr, and while it's an interesting idea I'm not sure it would go over as well there. Plus, I need a little break. This challenge has been active for over a year and with the new season of SPN about to begin I'll be busy dealing with those new eps (capping, reviewing). The Cap Challenge will return...probably during the next summer hiatus. ;)

Amazing how I can get behind in comments so quickly. I thought it had only been a few days, but sure enough, it's been a week since I replied back to anyone. *sigh*

I have the usual excuses, of course: I'm too busy or too tired. Despite my circumstances they still seem lame. Day to day I feel like I'm in some state of tiredness, in varying degrees. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

Now that I have full access to my PC again I'm attempting to get back into some kind of schedule which is really tough when you have no idea day to day when you'll be able to use it. Things get busy, people come by and before I know it hours have gone by. I'm so far behind on my to-do list that I really don't know where to begin. Doesn't help that for a month I was basically working from my laptop alone. I always have that issue of "what do I have where?" between the Mac laptop & the PC when I'm using them both quite often. I'm trying to keep a lot of mutual files on a portable external hard drive and that seems to help.

But I find myself floundering around trying to figure out what I should be doing...because I know I have things I want/need to do here on LJ. It's just tough to get back into the swing of things, is what I'm saying.

Luv & hugs my friends. ♥

Warning: Technical geekery & ranting below. :P

Yay! for getting a portable external hard drive that isn't filled up with software and actually works! :D

I bought a WD (Western Digital) My Essential Passport HD a few weeks ago, hooked it up to my MacBook Pro last week and not only couldn't I save anything to it (yes, I know you have to format them to work on the Mac), but I couldn't even get the software on the drive to instal! First of all, I don't even want/need software like that. I can do my own manual backups thank you very much. However, you can't get rid of this software because it's a disc drive. Grrrrrr. Anyway, it wouldn't launch anyhow and after doing research on it online, I found out people are having all sorts of trouble with the new Western Digital ext. HDs and their new software. The stuff I was reading made me even afraid to hook the drive up to my PC. So I returned it to Best Buy.

It's sad 'cause I'm a long-time WD customer. Almost all my ext. HDs are by them and some of them are many years old and still working fine. I've never had trouble with their products until now.

Once I got my money back from Best Buy I went in search of a new drive and found Iomega's eGo. It's only 500 GB to the 750 GB one by WD, but once I figured out how to format the drive on my Mac (so hopefully I should be able to use it on the PC as well), it works great! Best part? It didn't come with any software! There are instructions to download software off their site, but at least you're not forced into it taking up room on the HD and you're not paying for it to be on there. WD could take a lesson from Iomega.

I just finished copying my files from my Mac to the Iomega drive. It was 14 GB and it copied over in 12 minutes! Awesomeness! \0/

Friday I ended up sleeping for nearly 12 hours straight and napping on and off all the rest of the day and evening while fighting off a headache. Goody. So last night (early this morning) I go to bed and....I couldn't sleep. Not at all. I laid there for 2 hours and nothing. So I got up and am now trying to do something with all these early morning hours I normally don't see. LOL

Decided to fire up the PC because it's been a few days and I thought I'd take care of some comments this morning. Problem is, after an hour, the PC shut down & restarted. This was a problem back when I was on Vista and at that time I thought it was a problem with that operating system. Based on some online research, it looks like it's a Gateway issue. Cute. Unfortunately, there's conflicting reports about what causes the problem. The leading opinion is that there's some chip that gets too hot and Gateway has gotten cheap and only put in one fan. After an hour, the chip gets too hot, the fans speed up and off she goes. Gateway issued a fix for the problem, but based on what I've read, it makes the fans inside the tower run high all the time. I really don't want that. Others have installed extra fans to keep things cooler, however, I know nothing about that kind of an operation. I rarely get inside the case. I know, bad computer girl. :P I'm not big on the hardware side of computers. Software, internet, stuff like that I'm good with, but the inner, deep workings of a machine is an area I tend to stay away from.

The real kicker is that this restarting issue has no warning (other than knowing you have 1 hour before it happens again) and sometimes it won't do it at all. I found this when I was on Vista as well. It's like that intermittent problem on your car - it's tough to track down.

Meanwhile, that annoying blue tint problem with the display on the MacBook Pro? Hasn't appeared in days. Weird. It just stopped doing it. Technology....I still don't get it.

I think I'll see how many comments I can reply to in 40 minutes. That's all I've got left. I'm sure the PC will restart again. *sigh* If it does, it might be time to switch back to the Mac for the day.

Edit: Yep, it restarted once again. I looked up the problem on Google again and someone had some success with fixing the Power Management settings to where Windows won't go to Sleep for 5 hours. It was set for 1 hour, so I switched it and we'll see if it fixes the restarts.

2nd Edit: Nope. That didn't help either. Time to switch to the Mac, I guess.

** Will end up taking the laptop back to the Mac Store Monday or Tuesday about this blue tint problem. The weird thing is, if I hit certain keys or press down on the case, it goes away, and lately I've been able to keep it away for long periods of time. But it's still an annoying problem and something that shouldn't be happening, so back she'll go.

Btw, the part that went bad was the Logic Board (the motherboard on a Mac). Best part? We weren't charged for it because of an extended warranty that we didn't even know we had! So we only paid some $50 for the diagnostic & the labor! Awesomeness! They've also offered to update my Mac to Leopard w/a backup of all my files for free (I have the discs for installing Leopard, I just never did it). :D

** Finally bought "The Fall" on DVD Friday night and showed it to my mom. She liked it....said it was "different" even though there were some parts that didn't make sense. Too crazy though how her big concern at the end of the film was that she couldn't find a credit for the monkey, Wallace, in the end credits! LOL! She even made me replay them so she could look! "Why didn't they credit the monkey?" My mom cracks me up sometimes. :P

** I'm staying away from most of the reports, pics, etc from Chicago Con. Why? Because I haven't typed up my own reports from VanCon. *sigh* I'm so behind and it sucks! I really can't wait until SPN goes into hiatus so I can get caught up on a lot of things.

** Speaking of Vancouver, I can't believe how many webcams from there that I keep tabs on are out of order right now. Most of them are not updating and it's annoying. Bah. I miss seeing current views of the city. :(

** How cool is it that LJ now time stamps entries when they're actually posted instead of when you open the "Post an Entry" window? Me Likie. :)

** Went to Fry's Electronics on Friday and heard my first Christmas music of the season. I know it's the middle of November and nearly Thanksgiving, but it still felt too early to me.

** Looking forward to resuming the Name That Cap Challenge on Tuesday. Yay! :D

** I'm behind in comments....again! Gah! So frustrating. If I could just devote a couple of days to nothing but replying to comments I KNOW I could make some real progress. Unfortunately, right now the need to get caught up on my posts for the last 2 SPN eppies is taking precedence.

I'm baaaaaaack!!!!!! :D

Good News: I upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and my internet connection works once again! Yay!!!

This means that Just 'Cause will return starting tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. \0/
Luckily I've got some caps all ready and waiting to go in PhotoBucket. ;)

Bad News: Haven't heard anything about my sick laptop yet, but I'm still hoping it's just the graphics card. I also found out I didn't have as many of my MacBook Pro files backed up as I thought. My caps for 5x07, all my Name That Cap caps, my latest music downloads, and my files for all of October were not backed up on my external. Bleh.

Not having my laptop means I can't go on with my Name That Cap challenge (no caps to use), so for now that's still on hold. :(
I also can't post my review of 5x08 because it's on my laptop. Bummer.

It's progress, even if it's small. I miss my baby terribly and having no internet for 3 days was a major pain. Now it's catch up time. Ooof!

Happy to be back though, even in a limited capacity. I missed you guys! *hugs* :D
*goes off to check out my flist & Twitter*

Hello everyone.

As you might have noticed things have been quiet around here on my journal over the past couple of days. My beloved MacBook Pro laptop is sick. :( Tried to turn it on Friday night and got the usual start up sounds but nothing on the screen. Did everything the instruction manual said to try - multiple times and still nothing. Gah!!!!!

Saturday it went into the Apple Store shop. The guy said it might be the graphics card, so I'm hoping that's all it is. I really didn't back up everything recently (though I'd say 85% is backed up on my ext. drive) and they wanted to charge $90 to do a backup just in case. No thanks, I said. Talk about expensive. If I lose stuff, oh well. I'll probably be able to get most of it back.

Anyway, I'm coming to you from a public library computer. Bleh. Haven't had to do this in years. What a pain. However, I did buy an upgrade of Windows 7 last night and I'm going to work on getting that put on my PC. As some of you may know, I haven't had internet access on that machine for nearly 2 years thanks to sucky Vista.

Can I just say it sucks majorly to not have my laptop and my internet? *pouts* I didn't realize I'd be this lost without it, but I am. I'm supposed to get a call about the laptop tomorrow or Tuesday to tell me what the damage is and how much it'll cost.

I started to check out my flist a little, but it's too frustrating. Too many goodies (Hello! new Jensen & Danneel pics!) that I can't look at properly or save. Bummer. I'm going to have some major catching up to do once I get back online.

So until I get my laptop back or get online with my PC I'll be on hiatus. *iz sad*

This means...

* No Just 'Cause & no 5x08 First Impressions (it's typed up, but on the laptop *sigh*).
* Name That Cap 2 is suspended until I'm back up and running. And I will accept no more guesses on the last cap after Tuesday.

I'll try to pop online in a couple of days if I find out I won't be getting the laptop back for a while, or I can't get online with my PC. I miss you guys already! *hugs*

I don't normally put too much stock in horoscopes, but I gotta say...the one I have on my Mac's Dashboard widget is freakishly accurate.

Get this...

I was just on my LJ comm, [livejournal.com profile] jensenhappiness and thinking, "Things have been kinda quiet here lately. Maybe I should make a post asking what people would like to have in the way of posts & activities like challenges & such?"

Then I click my Dashboard open & the Horoscope widget updates for today...

Whaaaaaaa???? I've never seen a horoscope be this accurate. It's crazy!

Oh, btw...I've put a button linking to the comm on my sidebar and a larger one on my Profile page. :)

:: Yes, I'm still up when I should be asleep. *sigh* A shiny new web browser (OmniWeb - awesome btw) and a hungry stomach kept me up. Oh, well....sleep is highly over-rated. j/k :P

:: Did a Google search of my LJ username (which I do every so often) and found out someone on Twitter is already using the name Raloria. *pouts* :( Which means if I join, I'll have to come up with some variation of the name. Bah.

I'm thinking maybe ValRaloria or RaloriaVal (combining my user name with my real name of Valerie). RalVal? RalorVal? Any suggestions? *makes puppy eyes*

:: I really need to catch up on Lie To Me. Got 2 or 3 episodes on the DVR & 2 eppies on my desktop to watch. Hmmm....maybe since I'm staying up I should watch some of those. ;)

:: I also should watch my download of MBV 3D soon. The thing's out on DVD already and I haven't even seen the film! Gah!!!

:: It's kinda sad that the only shows left on the TV Forecast widget on my Mac is Legend Of The Seeker and Harper's Island. All my shows are ending for the summer. *laments*

:: Dont'cha hate it when you get defriended early in the morning? Kinda puts a damper on the day. Yep, just happened to me again. Lovely...not. :(

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah....can you say "stressed"? Installing software, having trouble un-installing software, having to restart the laptop twice, re-installing software onto the PC instead... *rips out hair*

I know I've said it before, but I really do need more than 24 hours in my day. Can I back-up the last 5 hours, please? Then I'd feel a little better.

And while I'm asking, can I please have my comments instantly taken care of? I got a few of them done, but I'm still about 4 days behind. *sigh*

Furthermore....3 posts, no comments. I know it's Sunday/early Monday morning, but where the hell is everyone???

*poutgrumblecomplainstress*
