I've been wanting a new printer all-in-one (printer, scanner, copier) for a while now. The one I have (HP Photosmart C6280 All-In-One) is over 4 years old and I've been getting fed up with it's slowness and ugly scans and prints. Seemed like it takes forever to decide and print something.

So the other day I got a new Epson printer, the XP-600. OMG It's awesome so far!

One thing that came up recently was that when I scanned the prints of my VanCon 2012 photo-ops, I was getting lines on the side of the scans...but only on certain pics. So a couple weeks ago I tried scanning just those pics again. Now keep in mind, when I scanned all of these I cleaned the glass on the printer and I even wiped each print with a soft cloth. Everything was clean. Still I got the lines and tons of dust! Ugh!!!!

But with the Epson all of that is GONE! :D
The color is better, it has a Dust Removal setting that does an amazing job, and even the original scans look amazing!!!!

Check out the difference:

The left image is from the old HP printer scan and the right is from the new Epson. No more weird color, no more hazy look, no more dust and lines!
HPvsEpsonScanComparison2013

I just finished re-scanning my 2012 Photo-ops. Wheee!!!! So easy, quick, and beautiful. I'll be posting them sometime this week. Now I wish I'd waited with uploading and sharing them on Facebook. Bah. I'll have to re-upload them over there.

This should help out in printing out photos for people to sign too for VanCon. I've always had to turn up the brightness on the images in the computer so they would print out decent on the printer. I'm hoping those days are over with the Epson. *happy dances* :D

Edit: Ok, so the Epson printer really doesn't like HP Photo Paper. Bleh. Sucks that I still have some HP paper left. Guess I'll have to use it up on the HP printer. Epson doesn't play nice with others, it seems. "I want my own paper!" Sheesh. Touchy, touchy. But it does a beautiful job.

:: Re-locating
I've had my PC on my aunt's dining room table since I moved the system over here last winter. Things were fine, but lately my internet has been horrible out here. It's almost as bad as dial-up at times. So I'm going to re-locate the whole kit-&-kaboodle over to her makeshift desk (a closet door on two short file cabinets). I already know the Clearwire receiver works better over there (helps having the patio door right there). Just gotta get all my aunt's "stuff" off the "desk". Peachy.

:: Tumblr/LJ Cut
It's a bit overdue, but I'm planning on doing a friends cut not only here on LJ, but on Tumblr as well. Entirely too much Sherlock and Teen Wolf stuff on my Tumblr Dashboard. No offense to those who watch, but they're just not my things. On the LJ side of things, there's some people who barely post anymore or who I just haven't connected with. Time to cut ties.

:: Walking/Weight Loss
Even though I've still got this cold from VanCon, I'm eager to get back to walking. The weather is still cooperating and my legs are itching to get out there other than the brief walk each day over to the house to get the mail and paper. My weight is super low, well, lower than it's been since I came back from the first VanCon in '09. :D Really want to keep it down there, despite the goodies I bought last week (maple donuts *gasps*).

:: Phone Woes
I'm soooo eager to get a new cell phone. You have no idea. I'm way overdue for a step into the 21st Century. *sigh* Didn't get one before VanCon because we were simply too busy and then ran out of time to shop for one, but now... *wants* Some days I'm so close to simply flinging this antique into the nearest wall and telling mom we're going to get a new one - NOW. Soon....I hope. *crosses fingers*

:: Gilmore Girls Marathon
Yep, it's GG time! I feel like I need to watch this show at least once a year. I go through withdrawal if I don't. Really, I do. Besides, we're almost through all our movies. *gasps* And Jared's sooooo cute! *squishes him* I just love all the characters and I wanna live in Rory & Lorelei's house. :D

Ok, I think that's it, though knowing me I'll think of something I should've added to this post as soon as I hit the Post button. :P

Thanks everyone for responding to my latest poll. I suspected most people would say "your journal, do what you want", and I was right. Just nice to get a confirmation on people's feelings.

My problem (if you can call it that) is that sometimes I think of things, consider posting about them to LJ, and then chicken out. I think, "Oh, nobody's gonna want to read that!" and back out. But maybe you all do. Guess I'll never know unless I go for it, huh? I've done my Quickie posts, but sometimes I want to post other things that don't seem to fit in that category (whatever that is). Am I making any sense? LOL I'm not sure I am.

Anyway, I'm thinking that expressing myself here more on my journal can only be a good thing. It can't be about caps and fanart alone.

♦♦♦ I'm trying out the new PhotoAlbum in LJ (which is in Beta). It's pretty nice, but one drawback is getting access to Scrapbook is a pain. Oh, well. And I just uploaded my Avatars & Smilies from Photobucket over to LJ. Why I didn't do this long before now, I have no idea. They're now readily accessible so I can stick them in posts like this! animated-smileys-computer-08

♦♦♦ My PCs fans are getting more and more noisy. Time to do a big back-up and dust the case out...sometime in the coming weeks. I was waiting for the weather to dry out so I can take the case outside to blow it out. Happy to say we seem to have reached a turning point as far as the weather is concerned. It's about friggin' time. Stupid winter weather. Good riddance!

♦♦♦ My arms ache. I've had the problem before. It comes and goes. It'll probably be with me today and then be fine tomorrow. In the meantime my arms feel weak and tired. Ow. :(

♦♦♦ I need to get back to capping. Been a few weeks and I don't wanna lose my mojo again. Next up...4x03 "In The Beginning", which won the last poll. Somehow I need to get 7x14 capped too. It keeps losing in all the polls. LOL Are people really that afraid of clowns that they don't want to see caps from that eppy???

♦♦♦ I've had some inquiries about my SPN Revealed series. I last posted to it in 2009. sCo_blink My plan is to resume where I left off (the last post was of 2x08 "Crossroad Blues") and start doing them again once Season 7 ends. SPN Revealed will return!!!

♦♦♦ At the same time, I know the SPN Filming Locations List is long overdue for an update, and certainly needs to be done before VanCon this year. Last year I was unable to complete the update before the convention, something I was quite disappointed about. I'm resolved to not let that happen again. I'm looking at (hopefully) using Google Docs for the list. I might have to break it up into more parts, but I hope I can get it to work because then people could easily print them or save them as PDFs, whatever. Another project for once the season finishes in May.

Think I've taken up enough of your time for now. lol
I now return you to your regularly scheduled Monday. :)

Amazing how I can get behind in comments so quickly. I thought it had only been a few days, but sure enough, it's been a week since I replied back to anyone. *sigh*

I have the usual excuses, of course: I'm too busy or too tired. Despite my circumstances they still seem lame. Day to day I feel like I'm in some state of tiredness, in varying degrees. I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

Now that I have full access to my PC again I'm attempting to get back into some kind of schedule which is really tough when you have no idea day to day when you'll be able to use it. Things get busy, people come by and before I know it hours have gone by. I'm so far behind on my to-do list that I really don't know where to begin. Doesn't help that for a month I was basically working from my laptop alone. I always have that issue of "what do I have where?" between the Mac laptop & the PC when I'm using them both quite often. I'm trying to keep a lot of mutual files on a portable external hard drive and that seems to help.

But I find myself floundering around trying to figure out what I should be doing...because I know I have things I want/need to do here on LJ. It's just tough to get back into the swing of things, is what I'm saying.

Luv & hugs my friends. ♥

raloria: (Default)
:: After the defriendings on Christmas Eve as mentioned in this post, I got in contact with the mutual friend who cut me. She had her reasons (plus she apologized for her bad timing) and I'm okay with it now, so it's all good. The other 2...well their timing still sucked out loud. Thank you All, btw for your comments to that post. I was feeling quite down that night and it felt good to know I had so many friends in my corner, so to speak. *hugs*

:: Christmas, of course, was a big fat nothing here. Just another day like any other. I'm honestly glad it's over. Now I can forget about it and look forward to this awful year being over.

:: Glad people liked the animations I posted last night. Made them yesterday since I didn't have time to cap 7.09. Hopefully I can get the episode capped later this week or next weekend.

:: Just to let folks know...capping episodes and making animations has gotten a lot tougher for me. I don't have easy access to my PC anymore (which has all the right software for capping and such that my laptop doesn't). It's currently in my "ice box" of a house since the furnace is no longer working there. I'm currently staying with a nearby relative and visit the house (aka ice box) when I can. Edit: ATM the furnace situation is a secondary problem that is waiting to be dealt with once other, more important things are taken care of. When I go there to use the PC, it's for several hours at a time, so I can get things done all at once and so the computer is on for a stretch of time.

So when I'm making caps, fixing them, or making animations...I'm doing it in an environment that's below 50 degrees F. It's VERY COLD. Since it takes me several hours for capping an episode....well, you can imagine I get quite chilly despite being bundled up in several layers of clothing. I'm trying to get caught up on capping the last few Season 7 episodes, but naturally it's taking a little longer due to the conditions. I thank you for your continued patience and understanding. :)

:: I keep wanting to get started making the Season 6 B&W Fanarts, but something always comes up. Had great plans of having them all done by now, but RL issues got in the way. *sigh* Maybe I can at least make a start on them this week. Would be nice to have some of them posted by the time SPN comes back on Jan. 6th.

:: Speaking of SPN...I never did type up a reaction post to the last episode. Is anyone still interested in my thoughts about it?

This isn't for a meme or anything. I had just happened to minimize my web browser last night when my desktop wallpaper changed and I saw this lovely image (by Lyri). Sort of took my breath away (as Jensen often does) and I thought I'd take a screenshot & share it. :)

Feel free to post your own current desktop in the comments.

Just spent the past 6 1/2 hours backing up the files on my PC to an all new WD 3TB External Hard Drive. Whoo-hoo!!!!

Yeah, 3 Terrabytes. The mind boggles.
I still can't quite wrap my brain around how big that really is. I'm used to dealing with Megabytes and Gigabytes.
But I found it on sale at Best Buy last night and I've been eyeing a 1 or 2 TB drive for a while now. Didn't even know they'd gone up to 3TB yet. It's quite simply...massive! I've got storage room now! And then some! Heehee!

I've been worried about my PC's hard drive filling up considering there's only 113GB of free space left. You can imagine how much space 1GB downloads of SPN eppies take up, along with all the original screencaps, plus there's all the photos from my big Canon DSLR, tons of music, etc. It's a huge amount of files (over 200,000 to be exact)....BIG files. Now I'll be able to delete a lot of them off the PC's HD to make room for new ones. ;)

For those keeping track, this is ext. HD number 6...or 9 if you count the 3 portable ext. Hard Drives. *iz geek* :P

Friday I ended up sleeping for nearly 12 hours straight and napping on and off all the rest of the day and evening while fighting off a headache. Goody. So last night (early this morning) I go to bed and....I couldn't sleep. Not at all. I laid there for 2 hours and nothing. So I got up and am now trying to do something with all these early morning hours I normally don't see. LOL

Decided to fire up the PC because it's been a few days and I thought I'd take care of some comments this morning. Problem is, after an hour, the PC shut down & restarted. This was a problem back when I was on Vista and at that time I thought it was a problem with that operating system. Based on some online research, it looks like it's a Gateway issue. Cute. Unfortunately, there's conflicting reports about what causes the problem. The leading opinion is that there's some chip that gets too hot and Gateway has gotten cheap and only put in one fan. After an hour, the chip gets too hot, the fans speed up and off she goes. Gateway issued a fix for the problem, but based on what I've read, it makes the fans inside the tower run high all the time. I really don't want that. Others have installed extra fans to keep things cooler, however, I know nothing about that kind of an operation. I rarely get inside the case. I know, bad computer girl. :P I'm not big on the hardware side of computers. Software, internet, stuff like that I'm good with, but the inner, deep workings of a machine is an area I tend to stay away from.

The real kicker is that this restarting issue has no warning (other than knowing you have 1 hour before it happens again) and sometimes it won't do it at all. I found this when I was on Vista as well. It's like that intermittent problem on your car - it's tough to track down.

Meanwhile, that annoying blue tint problem with the display on the MacBook Pro? Hasn't appeared in days. Weird. It just stopped doing it. Technology....I still don't get it.

I think I'll see how many comments I can reply to in 40 minutes. That's all I've got left. I'm sure the PC will restart again. *sigh* If it does, it might be time to switch back to the Mac for the day.

Edit: Yep, it restarted once again. I looked up the problem on Google again and someone had some success with fixing the Power Management settings to where Windows won't go to Sleep for 5 hours. It was set for 1 hour, so I switched it and we'll see if it fixes the restarts.

2nd Edit: Nope. That didn't help either. Time to switch to the Mac, I guess.

I'm baaaaaaack!!!!!! :D

Good News: I upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and my internet connection works once again! Yay!!!

This means that Just 'Cause will return starting tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. \0/
Luckily I've got some caps all ready and waiting to go in PhotoBucket. ;)

Bad News: Haven't heard anything about my sick laptop yet, but I'm still hoping it's just the graphics card. I also found out I didn't have as many of my MacBook Pro files backed up as I thought. My caps for 5x07, all my Name That Cap caps, my latest music downloads, and my files for all of October were not backed up on my external. Bleh.

Not having my laptop means I can't go on with my Name That Cap challenge (no caps to use), so for now that's still on hold. :(
I also can't post my review of 5x08 because it's on my laptop. Bummer.

It's progress, even if it's small. I miss my baby terribly and having no internet for 3 days was a major pain. Now it's catch up time. Ooof!

Happy to be back though, even in a limited capacity. I missed you guys! *hugs* :D

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah....can you say "stressed"? Installing software, having trouble un-installing software, having to restart the laptop twice, re-installing software onto the PC instead... *rips out hair*

I know I've said it before, but I really do need more than 24 hours in my day. Can I back-up the last 5 hours, please? Then I'd feel a little better.

And while I'm asking, can I please have my comments instantly taken care of? I got a few of them done, but I'm still about 4 days behind. *sigh*

Furthermore....3 posts, no comments. I know it's Sunday/early Monday morning, but where the hell is everyone???

My capping mojo is working! Some days the capping flows easily and other days...it's a struggle to get anything to come out good and in focus. Today was one of my better days and I can barely contain my excitement! My little test today means good things! :D

* Is it just me, or is LJ a little sluggish and slow today? It's not being it's usual perky nipple self for some reason. :P

* Two days straight of getting up in the morning. Yay! Me! :D

* I'm almost out of that yummy mayo with the olive oil. Woe. Hafta buy some more.

* We got some snow here early this morning. I missed seeing it come down and by the time I got up a lot of it had melted. Bummer. And now it's just friggin' COLD! Brrrrrrr. *grumbles-sosickofwinter-grumbles*

* I added on Greasemonkey to my FireFox and Dude! it's cool! I've got a few scripts for YouTube & Google, mostly. With one I can download high quality videos right out of YouTube and with the other I can control how I view my Google search results - have them laid out in 1 or more columns with thumbnail previews of the sites. Awesomeness! :D

* SPN's rerun of "Wishful Thinking" is on tonight! Yay! One of my favorites. :D

* I can't believe Jensen's birthday is in two days! Gah! I have no idea what I'm going to do for it. *facepalm*

* Speaking of birthdays, I have to give a special shout out to my best real life friend, [livejournal.com profile] meagansworks because today is her birthday!!!

(((((HUGS))))) I love you sweetie! Have a great day! Sorry I've been so quiet and haven't gotten back to you lately.

Time to pimp an awesome piece of freeware. :)

SUPER is a video encoder (converter) that I used on my old Windows XP computer and it's just been updated today. I HIGHLY recommend this software! It will convert any kind of video, comes with all the needed codecs, and works easily without tying up many of your system's resources.

Read all the features of SUPER HERE.

Info. about the software & the upgrade along with a direct download link: SUPER video player and encoder releases 2009 version -- via Download Squad

FileHippo.com also has a download of this latest release: SUPER v2009 build 35

Btw, it's for Windows only (all versions).

I'll be downloading it for my Vista computer later today. :)

SPN Revealed for S2 cap update...

Batch processed the caps I haven't fixed yet in Irfanview and finally found the right settings to where they look good over on the MacBook Pro. I figure this way most of the caps are already done and ready. If any need any other tweaking I can do it with the editing features within Photobucket...I figure. *hopes* If I need to deal with any caps in a special way, like leaving them large and cropping them, I can go ahead and do that in Picnik like I've been doing. But hopefully fixing most of the caps on the PC will save me a lot of work and time. Some of these early S2 episodes have produced 40-50 caps! I rarely use them all. In fact, I usually end up making some caps just because they're pretty, so those won't end up in the SPN Revealed posts. ;)

In other news...a few days ago I did something really stupid, but it didn't dawn on me until the next morning. I'd just finished uploading a whole ton of caps to PB and still had the caps in a folder on my desktop. In a late night fit of stupidity and wanting to clean up my desktop a little...I put the folder of caps in the trash and emptied it. Bye, bye caps. The next morning it dawns on me...I still needed to put those caps into zipped folders for people to download!!!! *facepalm* Aaaaarrrrggggghhh!!!! So I am now in the process of retrieving all those caps....the hard way. I'm taking them section by section in PB, copying the HTML code and pasting it into my Jottit website, then saving the webpage completely (to get all the caps on the page), and putting all the caps back into a folder on the desktop. *sigh* Tedious work. Bah. What a pain! >:(

I was kind of a grouchy-puss earlier today and this development with the caps hasn't helped. And my mom's aggravating me, too. Oh, and there's a muscle in my neck that keeps twitching/fluttering off and on. I've had my eyelid twitch before, but this bit in the neck is new. It doesn't hurt or anything, it's just annoying as hell. *twitches* Gah!

Okay, enough of my ranting. I've got more caps to retrieve. *sighs*

Dear PC,

Last time I had you on (last week sometime) you kept crashing and restarting every hour. I finally gave up and shut you off, but you failed to shut down properly and I ended up pressing and holding the power button just so you'd stop running. So this evening I turn you on and I get none of the usual warning messages about a missing driver for some piece of hardware I can't identify and you've now been on for over an hour without crashing. Is this some sort of a tease to get me to think you've magically healed yourself? Some cruel false hope that something is actually running right again? Is there hope that my internet connection will work on you now? Or are you just yanking my chain and preparing to spring some new surprises on me?

You might like to know...the MacBook Pro is over here with it's tongue sticking out, going "neener, neener, neener" at you. Don't you have any pride? The Mac is laughing in your face. It's all happy, running smoothly, and giving me my internet while you've been giving me nothing but grief. The Mac is getting all the extra cookies and no way is it sharing any with you.

Signed...

Forgive me if I ramble...I'm running on no sleep this morning. Not to worry...I'm sure I'll crash after lunch. LOL. I was supposed to make this post last night, but, well...let's just say I was detained by a relative.

What was & what is to come:

* Feb. 20th -- Made my first Just 'Cause cap post. I'm up to my 7th day of these and they're still popular.

* If you haven't had a chance, you can read my latest fanfic: "Sam & Dean Meet The LJ Gremlins". It's not my normal genre, but it was fun to write.

* Made my Mystery Spot animation of Dean going "Dude...Asia". I still smile whenever I look at it. :)

* Still having troubles with my new Vista PC. Yesterday I established that it's crashing exactly every hour. Weird. I'll be making a phone call about it sometime this week. I may very well end up going back to Windows XP.

* Because of my computer problems, I still haven't completely capped 3.12 yet, so my First Impressions post is still pending. Worst comes to worst, I'll just take a couple of caps here on the Mac and use them.

* Watched the Oscars Sunday night. I hadn't seen any of the nominated films, so I had no favorites, but I almost always watch the awards anyway, being the filmmaker/film geek that I am. :) Loved seeing all the fashions (how 'bout those red dresses?), George Clooney *swoons*, and Jon Stewart host a classy show.

* Can somebody slow down the week? I'm still trying to get my big Jensen birthday post done by Saturday. Made a little progress yesterday, but I still haven't typed up my post or really even decided what all I'm going to include.

* I'm going to get that UNC Achordants music post up this week, too. No more delays....it's getting posted!

* Still need to catch up on more comments, especially the older ones. *resolves to get more of them done today* :)

*hugs flist* Okay...lunch, nap, & then back to LJ.

First, I found out you can't record any audio with Windows Vista. Okay, I said, I can work around that by using the Mac. Then I had problems with Windows Movie Maker not accepting .avi files & crashing. I solved those problems. Then I made the seemingly innocent mistake of putting the computer in Sleep Mode one evening and lost my internet connection. I have yet to find a solution for this problem, save for waiting for the first Service Pack to be released. I also found out I couldn't use the Restore Points at all. I tried several of them to fix the internet problem...it said it couldn't back up to the restore points. Lovely. But now...now...the computer is crashing on me! Twice in just the past couple of hours it's crashed. Everything's going fine, then I hear the fans run really fast and loud and then blink...it's gone. It offers to restart in Safe Mode, which I bypass, 'cause where is that gonna get me. It's been telling me each time it starts that there's an unidentified device that needs a driver. What device??? It won't even give me a clue what the heck this thing is. It offers to get the driver through the internet. Right. That would be great...if it would let me connect to the internet!!!!! Arrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!! *tears out hair*

This situation is just snowballing now. It's awful. I didn't have any of these problems with my old PC. *looks longingly at old computer in the other room* I'm seriously starting to miss XP. It was stable, it worked, and it let me do what I wanted without any fuss. Vista is fancy and flashy and turning out to be one big pain after another. I should be enjoying my nice, new, shiny computer and instead I'm fighting with it left and right. And now it's got this crashing issue. That's just peachy! Bah!

*pets MacBook Pro* I sure appreciate having this laptop! But I still need a Windows system because as great as Mac is, the software choices are extremely limited. That's a big issue for me. Gotta have my software to do the stuff I want to do. *Sigh* It's really going to be fun using the computer now...trying to get things done before it suddenly crashes and restarts again. Yeah....just what I need. *glares at computer*

raloria: (Default)
It's SPN Thursday & I'm supposed to be all squeee excited...except I'm not. :(

I was, but stuff has happened and it's just not turning out to be the best day. Bah.

My previous internet problems with my new desktop computer? Still ongoing. And get this...I've tried using 3 different restore points to try and fix the problem (whatever it is)...all failed. I'm not just talking about failing to solve the internet problem...I'm talking about the computer failing to backup to the restore point!!! WTH??? I've never seen that happen before. I only had to use system restore a couple of times on my old computer and it always worked. Meh. Friggin' computer.

So I still have no idea why it suddenly stopped detecting my Clearwire modem. It works on the laptop (thank goodness). But it's frustrating...and we're already past the 30 days when we bought the desktop and I REALLY don't want to pack the whole thing up and take it back, but it's looking more and more like that's what's going to happen. And after I got all my files put on there and a bunch of software, too. *grumbles* So now I'm all stressed and frustrated over my computer. *glares at it* Why are you being so difficult? What did I do???? *bangs head against wall*

To top all this off, I didn't hardly get any sleep last night/early this morning....whatever. Stayed up too late (darned muse...who said writing at 9 a.m. was a good idea anyways?) and decided to just stay up. Then I decided I should at least nap a little. So I slept for a couple of hours. Now I'm all draggy and stressed...and I just wanna crawl in under a blanket, back up time, and wake up to a properly working computer again. *Sigh*

Some good news: that I wish I was more enthused about - I'm still working on that UNC Achordants post. Spent all last night re-recording the audio, 'cause I kinda did it wrong the first time. Hopefully these will play correctly on the PC now. *crosses fingers for something to work right* So, hopefully I'll be making a big post about this a capella group very soon.

Chatting with [livejournal.com profile] trystan830 this morning, I ended up writing some fic. It's not my usual stuff, by any means, but I'm hoping people will enjoy it. I have to tweak it a little and give it a title, but then I'll be posting it. Thanks Trys, for being my guinea pig. I had no idea it was just going to take off like that. :)

Oh, one last little rant issue. It's windy. There's been a big storm hitting western WA since yesterday, with lots of gusty winds. Why is this an issue? Because the wind plays havoc with our digital TV reception. Eeep! They say this is going to ease up late in the afternoon. I certainly hope so. Otherwise, SPN is gonna look and sound like crap. Bah. Please, please....let just one thing go right today? Let SPN air without any problems. I could really use a new episode to pick me up today.

I hope someone will comment on this, I've been getting so few lately (though that could be those darned LJ gremlins....grrrr).

Meh. I so need a nap right now. *hugs flist*
