Finally got to watch the Pilot of Jared's new series.

Let's just say it wasn't as good as I was hoping.

Admittedly, I couldn't keep myself from seeing Sam on the screen or even Jared himself for a while, but...it did dissipate throughout the running of the episode, so that's good.

Big problem - the music.
Now, I had been forewarned that others found the music way too loud in this episode, so okay, I remembered that. Was it a simple mixing issue or intentional? So, maybe just a one-time technical issue? BUT - not only was the music too loud, there was too much of it and it was annoying! I mean there was music in every single scene! A couple of times they started a scene w/out music, but not for long! There it would be, taking over the scene. It was irritating. And a lot of the time the music didn't really fit the scene, it detracted & distracted from it. Music is supposed to help guide your emotions and feelings (and usually be in the background). I fear this issue will not improve in the coming episodes...

Who else was thinking: Hey, your wife's still alive! Get out there and find her!!!
And honestly, I thought Jared overacted a bit with that yell. Just my opinion. It was too much.

I also found myself wishing that they'd told about Emily's death in flashbacks because this episode really had so little action in it and based on the promos they had, it looked like an action show: horse riding & car chases. I guess we won't get those until the next episode or so. I hope!

The dialog was another issue for me. Who talks this way??? It seemed really awkward and not at all the way normal people talk.

Why did they have to show the capital building...3 times??? I get it, we're in Austin. Surely there's other things there they could show.

I will say that Lindsey Morgan as Micki Ramirez, just about stole the show from Jared. She was amazing! And I'm not just saying that because I know her from The 100. Her character just felt better-written & acted.
However, why did she turn on the police cruiser's lights for all of 4 feet before dropping Cordell off at his house? What was the point of that, exactly???

Sadly, Cordell's family was kind of disappointing - except for the mom and the daughter. None of them got very good introductions and why did they all become so angry and mean after Emily's death/murder? I get it, Cordell took off, but it's barely been a year since her death. You'd think they'd give him a little slack! But they're all so angry at Cordell. Granted, he is a mess. Is it because he's still trying to figure out Emily's death? I dunno....hopefully the answers will come.

Alright, I did feel the episode ended a lot stronger than it began. Cordell made the wise decision to stay at home and be with his messed-up kids.

I really have nothing else to add, except that I hope the next few episodes are better than the Pilot, because it was mighty disappointing. I'm glad Jared found a new series so quickly, but....perhaps this wasn't the best choice for him.
