First Impressions: 4.06 Yellow Fever

With each of these reviews I'll include 2 cropped caps from the episode. One of Dean and one of Sam. I decided to do something different and make them b&w.

Yes, I'm finally getting this posted. I should have watched the eppy again, but I'm just going to fill in my notes a little based on memory.
As you'll see, I've returned to the more rambly, comment-while-it's-airing type of notes. I've left them "as is", so you'll see a lot of missed punctuation and lower-case on proper names. I think they're better this way, more spontaneous and fresh.
Note: "==============" signifies a commercial break.

Oh, Dean....what are you doing? You guys have got to stop lying to each other. *sigh*
It's always fun to find more layers within our favorite characters and this episode gave us a lot of insight into Dean. Sure, it was all the work of Ghost Sickness, but it showed us a lot of Dean's deeply hidden fears. All his doubts about himself and about Sam came to light in vivid detail. And as SPN does so well, it was done through humor and through drama all in one fully packed hour.
Jensen really did a great job of showing Dean in a whole new light - the extremely paranoid side of his character. Who'd have ever thought Dean would never want to hold a gun or even eat a box of donuts! While the episode was full of great laughs, there was also Dean's fear of Sam turning darkside, which produced one of the episode's most intense scenes. Sam giving in to his demonic powers is the one thing Dean fears most of all. It's what John warned him about and what Castiel has threatened to put an end to if he doesn't. And what about that little flash of yellow from Sam's eyes at the end? Was it real? Or was it just a residual from the Ghost Sickness? Only time will tell. Either way, Dean wasn't willing to reveal the truth, that he saw Lilith taunting him about going back to Hell in his final moments. The revelation that Dean's 4 months were really more like 40 years is painful to even contemplate, but I look forward to learning what really happened to Dean down there. I'm eager for him to really open up to Sam about what he went through because he's clearly remembering more than he's been letting on.
So, yeah...I loved this episode, too. Was there ever any doubt? ;)
