I don't bring up politics on my LJ. My journal, my choice. It's like talking about religion, I prefer to keep that out of my LJ as well. But with my Flist overrun with posts about tonight's vote, I thought I'd give my views. Keep in mind, this is probably the most open I've been about this subject...ever.

I did not vote. I've never voted. Never had any interest in politics. Maybe I never will. Some might call me un-American for not voting, for not letting my voice be heard. But IMO, I'm exercising my right to not vote. I have my reasons beyond that, but I'm not going to go into it here.

Obama has won and I've just listened to his speech. I'm glad he won. I was secretly pulling for him. I have my reasons and listening to his speech just backed that up. To be honest, I never liked Bush. He's always sounded pompous to me. So uncaring, fake, and totally out of touch with the American people....from day one. I didn't get any of that from Obama. I took a speech class when I first started college and we learned about speeches and how to tell when people were lying. Obama seems very genuine. Maybe I'm gullible or naive, but goodness knows any change has to be better than what we've had.

Is he going to be the answer this country needs? Will he be able to turn things around? Nobody can answer that. Only time will tell. All we can do is hope and wait.

On another note, I'm so happy this election is now over at long last. I've been so sick of the negative campaigning, all the personal attacks (I'm talking on the local level especially). What happened to talking about the issues, about what you're going to do instead of what your opponent has done or will do? It got really ugly this year and why was it necessary? But that's all over now...time to move on, in more ways than one...and hurray for that.

I know not everyone is going to agree with my views, which is totally okay. We're all allowed to have our opinions. :)
