I was planning on including my usual caps with this review, but I was so unhappy with the episode that it seems kind of pointless. Besides, the whole episode was at night, so the caps would be dark and not very good quality anyway...so...meh. Let's get on with my review, huh?

To quote Dean in TUS..."Seriously...what the hell?" That's all I can think of when thinking about this episode. After all the hype after a month long hiatus about guest star Tricia Helfer, this episode was a big letdown. Not because of her, though, it was because the episode as a whole felt off. I almost had to remind myself I was watching SPN. Dean was excessively uncaring towards Molly and Sam was all emotional and looking for a group hug. I was beginning to think this was a carry over from Tall Tales. Both the characters seemed different and not acting like their normal selves. It became a huge distraction to me. I kept hoping for an explanation for their behavior, a discussion between the brothers that would give a reason for it all, but we got none of that.

Anyways, here's more of my thoughts:

* Yay! Winston Rekert! I haven't seen him in a while (since he was on Stargate SG-1 to be exact). I was a big fan of a show he was on years ago called Adderly. It's still one of my favorite TV series and I'm lucky enough to have a few of the episodes on tape.

* Okay, I know they wanted to show off Helfer's body and all, but it's night, there's snow on the ground...and she's wandering around in the woods in a skimpy top and a light jacket??? Come on! Sure, we find out she's a ghost/spirit in the end, but still...she's in a physical form. Doesn't she still feel the cold? It just bugged me that she didn't act cold...and neither did the boys for that matter.

Molly: The only time we ever really argue is when we're stuck in the car.
Sam: *scoffs* I know how that goes.

Dean gives him a glaring look.

* The "House of the Rising Sun" song and the "she's mine" coming across on the radio of the Impala was kinda creepy.

* I can't believe Dean didn't even get upset over the Impala being taken out of commission. The Dean I know would have said at least a few choice words over the engine dying like that. Again, uncharacteristic behavior in my opinion.

* Love how Dean wants to get past all the explanations about spirits and get down to the hunt. Amen brother! If only they'd done that. This episode just slogs along at a snail's pace. *Sigh*

Dean: Follow the creepy brick road.

* What's with all the explanation about salt. I know it's for Molly's benefit, but I got the impression it was for any new viewers benefit as well. There was a lot of hype over this episode and clearly they were hoping to generate new viewers with a hot guest star. But for the true fans of the show, this kind of expanation about such canon aspects of the show is just tiring. We don't need it. It just bogs down an already slow episode.

Dean: You know just once I'd like to round the corner and see a nice house.

* OMG, the big emo scene between Sam and Molly. I swear, I thought Sam was going to start crying any second during his big monologue. Why all the emotion? Sam's never shown this kind of caring for other spirits, so what makes Molly so special. I just don't get it. Then Dean appears and is all matter of fact - I don't like spirits and I don't care about them. It was just weird and seemed forced and out of place.

* Too cool how Dean kicks in that little hidden door. Nice little mule kick. Heh.

* And why on earth is Sam all concerned over putting Greely's wife to rest? Even Dean doesn't get it. We've never seen the boys do this to a corpse before. Usually it's just salt and burn or leave them alone.

* I love how Dean is just sitting there doing nothing and just waiting for something to happen. But again, how often do we see Dean just sit and not do anything. Usually he's doing something - research or cleaning guns. Dean seems like the kind of guy who doesn't go for sitting still for very long.

* As the boys talk about leaving Molly in the dark about her husband, we are led to believe her husband is dead. Nice job of keeping that thread going as long as possible. They actually had me guessing until the end.

* That icy "she's mine" forming on the window was cool! No pun intended. Heh.

Dean: You're like a walking encyclopedia of weirdness.
The best line of the episode!

Molly: Oh, thank God!
Dean: Aw, call me Dean.

Heh.

* The whole confrontation between Greely and Dean was actually one of the few highlights of the episode. It was sort of cool how he cut Dean's face without even physically touching him. Ouch! And then we get flyingDean again! How long has it been since we've seen Dean thrown into a wall? Seems like a while. Heh. Of course, if Greely can call that knife to his hand why does he have to actually hold it to knife Dean? Can't he just use his "force power" and make the knife fly towards Dean? Just seemed a bit unneccessary for him to come into physical contact with Dean. Oh well...

Dean: Oh, baby it's been a long night.
I love it when Dean talks to the Impala! ImpalaLove!

* The big reveal about Molly's husband was a surprising twist. One of the few things that worked in the episode. Then we get the whole explanation about Molly being a spirit herself. The flashbacks to the brothers researching the case and interviewing Molly's husband was an interesting choice. It helps fill in some of the earlier gaps in the storyline, but unfortunately it doesn't really explain all the bizarre behavior by the brothers.

* Didn't like the whole ending with Molly walking towards the light. It was so cheesy I thought a package of Limberger had exploded in my house. It would have been better if she had just faded from sight and far more classy.

* I hate how Sam's still all emo at the end. It felt so over the top and there was no reasoning behind it. Why is he all upset? Molly's at peace now, right? Why all the drama? And Dean, being Dean...he just brushes it off and they get in the car. What the....? Ugh! A bad ending to a less than satisfying episode. I was expecting much more than this after a month-long wait.

This is by far the worst episode of the season in my opinion. I'm even placing it below No Exit and HOTH which I thought were the weakest installments so far. But at least those episodes had good aspects to them. I can barely say that about Roadkill and that's just sad. In a season that has been nothing but stellar in every way, this is just a huge disappointment. And what makes it worse is thinking about any new viewers who think this is what this show has to offer. It's a poor introduction to the series and I hope if anybody watched the program for the first time with this episode, that they'll consider watching some of the other episodes of S2.

I hope things can get back on track with next week's eppy. Werewolves! Cool!
