I guess these posts will continue to be posted once a month. That seems to be my schedule for them no matter what I do. Thanks for your patience!

Think you know every SPN episode inside and out? So did I, but a new HDTV with a great picture and sound changed all that. I started to see things that I'd never noticed before. After a while I decided to make a list of all the things big and small that I came across, episode by episode.

I'd like to think of this as an in-depth look into Supernatural. It's a collection of interesting observations, continuity errors, goofs, filmmaking techniques, statistics, important (or not so important) information, trivia, and anything else that struck me as unusual.

Beware! This post is image heavy.

A few important notes...

Over the run of the S1 SPN Revealed posts, I was asked how I'm so good at spotting continuity errors and other little happenings in the episodes. The simple answer is that I'm a Script Supervisor (also known as Continuity in England). I've only worked on a few college student films and an independent film, but I know the job well. The Script Supervisor does a lot, but the basic job description is to keep track of continuity during filming, everything from hair & make-up, to props and lighting. On the set, you have to catch everything you can - quickly. The difference with doing this to SPN episodes is that I can take my time, back up the video countless times, and even look frame by frame.

I don't hunt down these instances to be critical of the SPN crew. I know even from my limited experience how hard they work every week and I have the utmost respect for them. But it's interesting what little mistakes get by even a professional crew. It's also interesting to continue to find new elements to these episodes that many of us have seen dozens of times.

Get Involved: I'm always open to continuity errors, etc. spotted by others. If you see something that I don't have in a post, drop me a comment in the post or a PM, and I'll look into it. If I can confirm it and include it in that episode's post, I'll give you credit for the find.

For this reason, these posts will occasionally be updated. I'll post about the changes when they occur.

All the caps in these posts are my own. While most of these will not be suitable for other uses, due to my cropping and highlighting, you're free to take any that you like. All I ask is that you give me credit for them. Thanks! :D

~~~ 2.04 "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things" ~~~
We get a clue about where this episode fits in the show's timeline from Angela's phone after the crash: August 22, 2006. However, this date doesn't match at all with the ones on Angela's grave marker, as you'll see below.
Mysterious Numbers: A number (164) appears on the screen for a few frames on a shot of Sam while they're in the first scene in the car.
Trivia: John's Dog Tags: Winchester, John 306-3694 Type AB Non-Religious
Trivia: Angela's Temporary Gravemarker:
Greenville Cemetery
Registration No. 5754-011
Supervising Staff: R. Hugonet
Plot: B 117-Y244
Date Completed: 12/08/07
Monument Completed: 19/9/07
Continuity Error: When Dean approaches Angela's grave and sees the tree we only see his usual necklace on his neck, but in the second (crane) shot, we see him wearing another one outside his shirt. In the following shot it's just the one amulet necklace again.
This is our first view of Dean's new bracelet.
Classic Kim Manners overhead crane shot.
We get two SammyFrowns in this episode.
At the first scene at the cemetery...
...and later on when the boys are discussing ways they can kill Angela.
It's not breaking & entering, it's just entering: Dean gets into Angela's apartment with a credit card.
When Dean holds up the keys to show Lindsay, you can see a keychain - very appropriately, a rifle shell. This can also be seen in the previous episode of Bloodlust, when Sam puts the car keys on the little cactus in their motel room. However, I missed it for that post, so I'm placing it here instead.
You can see blue tape on the floor for Jensen's mark when Sam is watching his Casa Erotica IV.
Filming Location: The argument scene on the street was filmed on Nicola Street in Coquitlam.
There's a cute DeanFrown when the boys are checking out Angela's Zombie Pen.
Continuity Error: When Angela falls on the scissors, she's laying flat, face down. But when Lindsey turns her over onto her back, she's laying on her side at first.
In the car shot when they're on the way at night to confront Neal - in the second car coming at the camera shot, you can clearly see it's not Jared in the passenger seat.
When Sam is running from Angela in the cemetery, there's one shot using Jared's stunt double.
As Dean starts his run to nail Angela into the coffin, you can see Sam still on the ground, clutching his right hand in pain. This, of course, sets up the story for Sam's injured arm which was in a cast for a good portion of Season Two.
Btw, that's Jensen himself doing that run and slide into the grave. :D
Dean's line of “We'll get it looked at later” appears to have been added later in post. If you look at that part frame by frame, even though Jensen's head is turned away from the camera, you can see his mouth doesn't move to say the line.
Hope you enjoyed this revealing look at "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things".
