Seems like a lot of us are getting snow where we are right now. There might not be all that much at my house, but here in Western Washington, we're not used to having compact snow and ice and temps below freezing that last a week! So this winter blast we've been having is very unusual. We got only between 2 1/2 to 3 inches on Thursday, but it's likely to stick around until the next storm hits on Sunday.

Anyhow, I took lots of pics and thought I'd share. :)

Mini-Rant: What is with PB not adding in some basic HTML into their codes anymore? Not that I can't do it myself, but it takes more time. Grrrrrr. /End Rant

This was actually taken on the 16th. The sun was setting and I thought it looked pretty with this house at the end of the street all lit up.

The view right out my bedroom window. This is about 3:30 in the afternoon and it's been coming down all morning and afternoon.

Our old, rusty garden shed, with the neighbor's poolhouse in back of it.

Looking further to the east. That blue house is my aunt & uncle's place. Yep, they live one house away. :)

This is out the east front window, out at the houses across the street.

The snow clinging to the branches of our huge rhododendron is so pretty.

This is looking out the western window on the front of the house, on the other side of the big rhody.

Look at the white stuff coming down! Wheeeeeeee! :D

Backyard now. That's the neighbor's poolhouse again.

The view out our kitchen window. That's the fencing between us and our neighbor and their much smaller rhody.

Here's the house. I turned on our Christmas lights, too, for that added holiday feel. :)

A little closer, so you can actually see the lights in one of the windows.

Looking east - down the street.

Looking west, up towards the one other house on the street with lights up.

A nice look at our tree in the front yard with the house in back.

I like this pic. Our house with all those pretty trees in back. None of those are ours, btw.

I spotted this little evergreen twig on the ground as I was headed back into the house and had to take a picture of it.
Perfect for a Christmas card, huh? :)

This is a webcam view I captured on Thursday so you can see what Seattle looks like covered in white.

But as pretty as the snow is, it's been a disaster to the area. We're simply not well equipped to handle extreme winter weather. And our terrain and streets are mostly hilly, which causes extra problems. They sand and plow the streets, but it's never enough and there's always roads that they can never get to. We normally get mild, wet winters....not this stuff. There's been massive school closures, numerous car crashes, public buses getting stuck, road closures, business closing early (or not opening at all), delays at the airport, etc. etc. etc....

All punctuated today by this event with two buses: Passengers scramble for safety as buses skid, hang over freeway. I saw this on the news this afternoon. Crazy....and truly terrifying for those kids. And as some have pointed out, it could have been prevented. First, that street should have been closed, and second, the buses should have had chains on!!!! For crying out loud people! You're driving around hilly Seattle on icy roads with no chains on???? What were they thinking? Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt, but the thought of what could have happened if even one of those buses had gone over....
