So now fandom is up in arms over the photos that came out today of Jared arriving in Argentina and supposedly being mobbed by fans for photos and autographs.
Huh. Interesting. I know he's on vacation there with his sister and people feel that he shouldn't be "bothered" by fans. However, here's my take on this whole thing...
1) Jared is an actor....a celebrity. Being recognized in a public place comes with the territory. He doesn't look unhappy in the photos. He's smiling, being his usual friendly self. I'm sure he was thrilled to be recognized there in Argentina, that's the kind of guy he is. Look at how often he asks or responds to the question of where people came from to go to the conventions. He clearly likes to know that people from all over the world watch the show. But again, I say...being an actor, this is part of the job. Yes, even when you're on vacation. If you're not prepared for that, you shouldn't enter the business. And besides, what actor wouldn't want to be greeted by adoring fans in a far off country? I remember hearing somewhere that an actor needs to worry when the fans stop mobbing them. It means you're done, nobody cares anymore and your career is over.
2) It was an airport, a public place. Some are calling the fans stalkers. Um....it's not as if they were hanging outside of his house, looking into his windows, and flew down to Argentina with them. These were fans who remembered what Jared said about coming there when he was at the Chicago Con (I think it was then). If you knew your favorite celebrity was coming to visit your country from the U.S. and that it was an extremely rare occurrence, wouldn't you try to catch a glimpse and get a photo or two?
3) How is this different from any other photos we've seen of the guys with fans? Really. It's a big deal because he's on vacation....with his sister? And that makes it wrong? Hmmm... What about the fans who have gone to Vancouver to find them on location where they're filming? Who have visited the studio? Or the other fans who've met the guys at other public locations....like that one from last night of a fan with Jared and Jensen at a mall here in WA state? What about the fans outside the theater in Texas for Jensen's AFGM performance? Are all these people crazy fans? Stalkers? It's not as if the fans in Argentina where jumping on Jared or tearing his clothes off. That would qualify as over the top and crazy and being of a mob-like mentality.
Most of all, I see fans thinking of Jared as a normal person when they're thinking this event in Argentina is wrong. Yeah, Jared's a normal person....but he's also got an unusual job. He's seen on TV every week. He's a celebrity. I wish people would stop treating the boys like they're made of glass. Both have been in this business long enough to know what to expect from the public when they go out. This is their life. Don't try to match it up with your own and think that it's wrong because it would bother you to be greeted at an airport like that. When you're an actor, this is the life you sign up for. You have to be prepared to go out in the public and be recognized. Then there's the promotional functions, appearing on talk shows, being interviewed by the press, having your face and your name plastered on t-shirts and posters, etc. This is not a normal life. Jared's a big boy and he seems to be able to handle it all.
For another perspective on this...Has anyone seen the videos of the guys (separately) on the red carpet for awards or movie openings? How they weretreated attacked by the paparazzi?
Here's video footage of Jensen on the red carpet (I couldn't find the video of Jared, but it is out there - you'll get the idea from this video anyway).
Listen to the photographers yelling out his name. Yet, this is also part of the job if you're a celebrity. But this video disturbs me more than hearing about the antics of fangirls. Why? The fangirls love the guys and their devotion and adoration is born from love. The paparazzi are only about making money. They're just doing their job and nothing more. Which is probably why Jensen looks so uncomfortable (yet, ever the professional) in this video. These aren't fans. They're a mob of photographers wanting a money-making picture.
In a nutshell....I'm sure Jared and his sister are fine. They were fans being fans. I'm sure he's not going to be greeted like that everywhere he goes during his vacation. Everyone take a deep breath and chill.
