As many of you may or may not know, I'm a sucker for spoilers. One of my favorite sites is Spoilerfix.com and if anyone posts any spoilers on their LJs or on any of the comms I frequent, I always have to read them.
There's been a lot of spoilers bouncing around online lately and I've been having a field day trying to keep up with them all. Most are about SPN's season finale on May 17th. There's a lot of speculation and rumors going around, so naturally I thought I'd add my two cents into the mix.
The biggest news about the season finale is that supposedly at the end of Part 1, Sam dies in Dean's arms. This has since been further backed up by Jensen's comments in this interview, in which he talked about filming that emotional scene. It could also be the big "oh no they didn't" moment Sera Gamble referred to in a recent interview.
Having Sam die in Dean's arms would thrill me (hey, I love angst!) because it's an outcome I've been waiting to see. Not that I want Sam to die, but with Sam bracing himself on turning evil and wanting Dean to kill him if he does, it means Kripke is following up on the path the show began at the beginning of the season. The tension has been very high all season long between the brothers, even more so once Sam learned about The Secret that John told Dean in IMTOD. Dean's supposed to save Sam from becoming evil and if he can't, he's supposed to kill him. This is the promise Dean made to their dad. Then Sam made Dean promise to him as well in Playthings. But Dean's been repeatedly saying he won't kill Sam and will do anything in his power to keep it from happening. But still, the speculation that Dean could one day end up pointing a gun at Sam continues to be brought up. So will Dean be the one to shoot Sam in the season finale? I don't think so. Dean said in BUABS that he would "rather die" himself than kill Sam. Dean loves Sam more than life itself. He's looked after him almost all his life and Sam's the only family he has left. He's not about to shoot Sam, no matter what happens. Dean will somehow find some way to save his brother. I suspect Sam gets killed by someone else. Who it may be, I don't have a clue. Sam will obviously not stay dead, because then we wouldn't have a show anymore. It'll be interesting to see how he's brought back.
But that's not to say that Sam couldn't die by his own hand. A while back I began writting a fanfic for the end of the series. The story told of how Sam had become possessed by a demon and had run off and began killing people. Dean managed to follow, but was always arriving too late to stop Sam from killing. Eventually, he does catch up with Sam in a big, abandoned warehouse. They have a confrontation in which Sam threatens to kill Dean with the Colt because the YED is forcing him to do it. Sam claims he can't control what the Demon makes him do, but he won't kill Dean. Dean, meanwhile, has been holding his gun on Sam, yet looking for a way to get Sam to come with him so they can find a solution. But Sam is convinced there's no hope for him. Dean puts his gun away, saying he won't kill Sam no matter what. At the end, Sam tells Dean he knows of a solution that will save them both and turns the Colt on himself, shooting himself in the head. Dean rushes to his brother's side and can only cry and hold onto Sam's body. So I can see Sam ending his own life, if he felt Dean wouldn't be able to do it. He was willing to do it in Croatoan, so the idea has already been placed.
It's also been mentioned that Sam will learn what happened that night in his nursery when his mother was killed by the YED. Apparently he's shown the event in some kind of vision. The rumor is that Mary knew the Demon before that night. This should prove interesting. There's been a lot of fan speculation about Mary's side of all this. Maybe now we'll finally learn some answers.
From the script sides, we know Sam finds himself in some sort of ghost town with Ava, Andy, and two other "special" kids that we haven't seen before. The gal, Lilly, can make people's hearts stop, and Jake, just seems to have superhuman strength. Ava tries to kill Sam and Jake kills her. There's also a mention that Jake then turns around and tries to kill Sam. Could he be the one to kill Sam at the end of part one? Hmmmmm. Meanwhile, Dean enlists Bobby and Ash's help in trying to track Sam down. Apparently, neither brother knows where the other one is and Sam doesn't even know if Dean is alive. The second set of script sides caused some confusion because they were the sides for the Crossroads Demon in Crossroad Blues. Does this mean Dean is going to try to cut a deal to save Sam's life? Or is he finally going to make a deal to bring John back?
Recent photos also show that the Roadhouse is going to be burned down. What does this mean about Ellen & Ash? Does Jo come back?
The word is that Kripke wants to wrap up some of the storylines that have been going on since the beginning of the show. He wants to answer some of the questions. He's also stated that this season will not end with a cliffhanger. *much relief* New questions are bound to be raised, but it sounds like they will be starting the next season with a new set of problems for the Winchester brothers to tackle. It seems like just about everyone will be on hand at some point during the two-parter. Obviously, the YED will make his long-awaited appearence. And after a whole season of waiting, John will return in some unknown capacity as well. The Roadhouse crew will be in attendence, as will Ava, Andy, and who knows who else.
As far as other season ending speculation goes...there's been some mention of explaining what Dean's place in the show's mythology is. Is he more than just Sam's protector? Will we finally learn what his necklace is for? Some have wondered whether Dean will end up going into Hell to get John. That seems like quite a leap for this show. Kripke's mentioned several times how he wants to keep the show real. He doesn't want to make the show too fantastic. That's why he's been keeping Sam's abilities tamed down. Kripke said in an interview that he doesn't want Sam to become some kind of super hero. He's just supposed to be a regular guy who happens to have some psychic visions that he can't control.
And then there's the other "special" children like Sam and this "coming war" that we learned of this season. Rumor is that this will be brought to light in the finale. Is Sam going to be some kind of leader in this war? Is there a difference between him and the other children? Meanwhile, what of any other hunters, like Gordon, might be hunting for these kids? Will they pose a threat in the finale? Who was it at the Roadhouse that told Gordon? Someone there clearly knows about Sam and the other children. What about the other hunters who knew Steve Wandell? Will they be looking to hunt Sam down for revenge?
Obviously, there's a lot of loose ends for the show to wrap up even in a two-part finale. I'm sure we won't get all our questions answered, but I do hope we will get a lot of them explained. Season two has been a phenominal ride and seen the whole show take a bold step up into some serious storytelling. Everything improved from season one, from the acting to the writing and almost everything in between. There's been a few mis-steps, but they've been relatively minor. I have a good feeling about this season finale and I really look forward to the continuation of the emotional rollercoaster we've been treated to all season long. I'm also very confindent that the show will get a third season. I'm nowhere near ready to see Sam & Dean end their journey and I look forward to seeing what roads they'll be traveling next.
So the countdown to the finale is on. I can't wait and I'm so thankful that we're almost at the end of our last hiatus before the final 5 episodes. I'm looking forward to more laughter, tears, conflict, and yes...resolution by the end of the season.
One last note...I'm still hoping for that hug Kripke. Maybe if Sam really does die in Dean's arms, I might just get my wish. *squeels with joy* Here's hoping! :D
To those of you who've read all of this and put up with my rambling...I applaud you! *claps* I look forward to reading your thoughts! And if anyone knows of any other spoilers I failed to mention here, please feel free to include them in your comments! :D
