VanCon: Planning annoyances

raloriaOh, how lovely. Another one of those times where my mom is annoying the hell out of me.
I was plotting out my walking route in Vancouver between our hotel and the convention hotel and it's under a mile both ways. The only thing that's concerning me is the uphill climb I detect. Might have to start going up that big hill in our Cherry Park neighborhood to help train myself. I'm thinking Burrard is a better street than Granville as far as the better neighborhood goes. I've heard things about Granville. So I'll take Drake St. over to Burrard and take that straight to the convention hotel.
So I tell all this to my mom and she starts freaking out about the length of the route, even though I told her I've been walking over 2 miles lately. Within about 1 minute I got about a dozen "What if" questions from her. *sigh* Well, geez, there's only so much one can see from satellite maps. The route one way is 0.48 whether I take Granville or Drake St. to eventually get over to Burrard. Like I said, in my opinion, I'd rather stick with Burrard because it looks like a safer street/neighborhood. Can any of you Vancouverites confirm this?
Mom's worried about the Set Tour on Saturday. I won't be allowed to take my camera on the bus, which means I'll have to leave it at our hotel. So upon returning from the set tour to the Convention hotel, I'll have to walk back to our hotel to pick up my camera and walk back to the convention hotel. She thinks I'm bound to miss stuff during this time. Well, hell, I have no idea what I'll miss, but I'm sure it won't be anything major. I'm thinking it'll take me approx. 20 minutes to walk from one hotel to the other. That's a rough guess right now. I need to do some actual figuring to be sure. She's telling me, "You'll be all out of breath from walking. You'll have to sit down and there won't be any place for you to rest." *sigh* Yeah, this is what I have to deal with. I can't possibly be completely prepared for what I'll face in Vancouver, but I'm planning and preparing the best I can! Problem is, that's not good enough for her. She wants to know everything before we get there. Sorry, mom. Life doesn't work that way.
