Harper's Island: "Snap" & "Splash"
Jul. 11th, 2009 02:53 pmGot behind with my reviews, but here's my views on the last 2 episodes before tonight's big 2 part finale.
These 2 previous episodes were both very good, particularly "Splash", but let's do the rundown of "Snap" first, shall we?
* Cloe & Cal find out the Sheriff is missing from the clinic.
* The state police fly in, but the officers are shot upon arrival. Looks suspiciously like the Sheriff is the culprit. Is he? Hmmmm....
* Shane & Jimmy go down to the marina and find his boat needs more fuel. Problem is, the gas pump isn't working right, there's no power and then....whoops, explosion!
* Jimmy's dead!
* While the crew hides out at the Cannery, Cal and Sully head off to go get Cal's sailboat on the other side of the island. Cal gets shot as they escape. Eeep.
* A car drives up, delivering Jimmy's body to the group. However, he's alive...barely.
* Abby's room key is in Jimmy's hand. It's a message from the killer, so she goes to check it out.
* Trish keeps questioning Madison about the man who captured her, raising Shea's ire. C'mon! You go girl. We know that girl's hiding something and as it turns out, the Sheriff isn't the one who was her "friend" after all.
* Oh, yeah....Maggie, the innkeeper is hanged outside of the Cannery for all to see.
* Abby goes to the Candlewick and finds her dad in her room. Thing is, he really is her dad and decidedly not the killer (as was previously suspected). After some heartfelt exchanges he's then flung out the window and Abby finds him hanging outside. (Aw, man! No more Jim! *pouts*) And then someone comes up behind her, saying she looks just like her mother....ooooooh! It's Wakefield!!!
Okay, great eppy. I'm glad the Sheriff was redeemed because it did seem unfair that everyone was accusing him of the killings simply because everything was being tied to Abby. Okay, sure, there was all that evidence and files at his house, but he's the sheriff, that's to be expected. Anyway, I'm sorry to see Jim Beaver go. He was the whole draw for me to this show. Outside of that, everything worked well.
Now to "Splash". Hoo! Boy! What an episode. Btw, I re-watched this eppy in order to take these notes.
* Sully's patched up Cal. Yay! And they continue their trek to the sailboat, only to find out it's not there.
* Danny & Henry find Abby & the dead Sheriff.
* Wakefield charges into the Cannery, killing Nikki. Shane gets the rest of them out (leaving Jimmy behind though). I wondered why Trish didn't shoot the rifle, I mean, c'mon, she had a clear shot. Gah. Loved how Shane came through as a true hero in the end. Awesome fight scene, btw.
* Danny, Abby, and Henry arrive at the Cannery to find the bloodbath there, while the girls hide out in the Sheriff's attic.
* Trish finds out there's tunnels all over the island, not just at the Candlewick as the bell at the church mysteriously starts ringing. Both groups decide to go check it out, leaving Shea & Madison in the attic.
* The group reunite at the church and Chloe goes missing.
* Jimmy arrives and the group splits up again to block off all the tunnels & search for Chloe.
* Wakefield sticks Chloe in a storm drain tunnel.
* I seriously thought Danny was gonna get it when he looked through those shotgun holes in the barricade he and Sully put up at the hotel.
* All these people wielding shotguns and not one of them is a good shot.
* Cal finds Chloe only for Wakefield to block their escape and kill Cal. *cries* Then in a beautiful and tragic moment, Chloe falls to her death rather than be murdered by Wakefield. "You can't have me." *cries*
* Shea and Madison find files on Jimmy in the Sheriff's attic, while he and Trish sit in Nikki's car, blocking the storm drain entrance to the tunnels.
I'm so sorry to see Cal & Chloe die. *sniff* They were some of the best characters on the show. What a way to die though, heroic...true love. It was beautiful. Shane's death was sad, too, as he finally proved that he was a good guy after all. So now the attention turns on Wakefield's accomplice. Is it Jimmmy? It almost seems too obvious, which means it must be someone else. I really have no theories on who it might be. I'm just looking forward to seeing it all come together tonight. It's been quite a ride. :)
