Late again (sorry!) with my final reviews of this series.
I'll just hit the highlights...
- Wakefield is captured, tied up with belts (I knew that was a bad idea), & locked up in a jail cell.
- Jimmy finds the group, telling them that Trish fell off a cliff, furthering everyone's suspicions of him being Wakefield's accomplice.
- Trish is fine though & finds a working radio in a boathouse. They make contact with the mainland and help is on the way.
- Madison reveals to Shae & Danny that someone else was in the tunnels with her. Gah!
- Wakefield escapes, kills Danny and Shae & Madison run away.
- Trish & Henry go back to the Candlewick, get cleaned up, have some sex, & she ends up in her wedding gown. Sounds outside make Henry go out to investigate. Wakefield goes after Trish, she runs into the woods and meets up with Henry who...dun, dun, dun! Is Wakefield's son/accomplice. He kills Trish.
- Sully gets Shae & Madison on a small boat and gets them off the island.
- Henry finds Sully and kills him.
- Meanwhile, Abby & Jimmy are running around, they find Trish's body, then find Henry, but when they take him to her body it's gone. They head off to the church where Wakefield attacks Jimmy. The church catches on fire, Henry & Abby run out, Wakefield catches up and wants Henry to kill her. Instead he kills Wakefield then knocks Abby out.
- Abby wakes up in a house on some remote part of the island. Henry reveals everything, including his love for her. Jimmy's tied up in a shed and Henry wants him to sign a confession for all the killings so he & Abby can be together. Abby gets Jimmy free, they all end up down by the water, where Abby kills Henry. Abby & Jimmy then are rescued and taken off the island.
For a little while I suspected Trish as being the other killer. She was acting very suspicious after everyone found her after her cliff incident. I was sorry to see her killed off. Poor girl. She never had a clue. Danny really gave Wakefield a good fight! I was impressed. I was surprised to learn Henry was Wakefield's accomplice. Didn't see that coming at all. Some of it makes sense and some of it doesn't. More on that in a bit. Madison just about drove me up the wall! Why wait sooo long to say there was someone else in the tunnels with her????? WTH???? She knows people are being killed and she keeps all these secrets! Gah! Irritating!.
Wakefield's death could be seen as anti-climactic, especially when everyone with a gun in their hands couldn't seem to hit the broadside of a barn whenever he was in sight. He's ultimately taken out by his own son, which goes to prove that you can't even trust family. :P
The ending was a little long and for the huge build up, a little slow. A little too much of Abby & Henry talking for my tastes, I guess. I think my biggest problem was the reasoning behind Henry being a killer. If he wanted Abby all this time, why not just contact her? Why pretend to love Trish, plan an elaborate wedding with all those guests, just to get her to show up? It's a bit far fetched. There's also some things from past episodes that don't add up. Like when Danny & Sully were closing up that one tunnel at the Inn and the shotgun blasts happened. That was supposedly the accomplice, but Henry was with Abby at that time. He was accounted for. And if these guys (Danny, Sully, Malcom) were is friends since they were kids, why kill them? It's also a little hard to believe he felt nothing for Trish. They seemed like a very loving couple. I can buy Henry putting on a whole charade of being in love with her, but to do it for so long, and then have sex with her before killing her? Again, it feels like his reasoning is off. Granted, he's one sick puppy for being in love with his half-sister, but talk about going through a lot to get to her. He couldn't pick up the phone? They were child-hood friends. He didn't think she'd want to see him?
Overall, I liked the series. It had some big faults (rising body count and nobody noticing), big plot holes, but had a good cast and it was a fun experiment for CBS. Sadly, since the ratings dropped they'll probably never try this again, but it was a good effort.
