June Rant/Rave Post
Jun. 18th, 2007 05:26 pmI tried this idea out last month and had a couple of people participate, so we'll see how things go this month. This is a few days late (should've been posted on the 15th), but it's close enough for jazz.
This is a place for everyone to express their own rants & raves. It can be anything and everything. Vent, squee, flail, let our your frustrations, whatever you want to just let everyone know about or get off your chest. You can post as many or as few as you like. My only rule: no hateful or rude comments please.

* The lousy Western Washington weather.
May & June can be very nice and warm here in WA as the cold and wet weather of winter transforms into the loveliness of spring and early summer. We're just not getting that this year. We've gotten maybe a couple of really nice, warm, sunny days, but the rest...cold and cloudy and/or rainy. Here I am, all eager to go out and do some gardening in the backyard and it's too darned cold to do anything most of the time. I'm still turning the heat up in the house! Yesterday the temp barely made it to 60 degrees!!! Where the heck is spring?
* All the drama over the latest SPN spoilers.
I'm not going to go into the spoilers themselves here, except to say that at first I was a little concerned over the spoilers and the problems they might cause. Then I read the script sides and wasn't bothered by them. I also read the posts citing that the execs at the CW are the ones pushing for the changes with the show and not Kripke. I had a feeling that was the case all along. It's the same old story. This is nothing new in Hollywood. Happens in movies all the time. Sadly, even the creators of shows don't always have all the control they would like. The big network bosses have the ultimate power and unfortunately they don't always make very good decisions. They also tend to be very clueless about the shows and the fanbases. It's kind of like letting a blind puppy lead a baby around on a leash. However, it's still Kripke's show and he's made good decisions so far and I'm trusting that he'll continue to make them into season three. We don't know what's going to happen until we see the new episodes in Sept. The early scripts are already written, they're casting/auditioning now, and soon they'll be filming. So the ball is already rolling. Take a deep breath, have a little patience, and trust that things will turn out well and the third season will be as good (or, hopefully even better) than season two. So I'm not panicking about the spoilers like I was at first. I understand why some people are still upset by them. But I'm taking the "wait and see" approach with this now. A lot can change between now and Sept. And a lot of times what we expect to see on this show doesn't turn out that way at all. I honestly don't want to be spending my time and energy worrying over what is basically out of my control to begin with. Letter writing campaigns are the answer for some people, but I'm not going to participate in them. I'll also not going to try to convince others that they shouldn't write letters. That's their right and if it makes a desired change then that's okay. We all have our own opinions, but we're still all in this together as fans. There's nothing wrong with being passionate about your favorite show as long as that passion doesn't lead to attacks on other fans if their opinions differ from yours.
* LJ being screwed up and not sending comments out to everyone's email.
This has been happening way too often. I rely heavily on my email to let me know when people have commented to my LJ posts. What happened to LJ running like the smooth, well-running machine it was when I first signed up?
* Falling behind in LJ.
This is sort of a self-rant to myself for falling so far behind in my replies to everyone. I'm currently behind by 2 weeks! My deepest apologies to everyone. I'll get my act together soon and get back to as many of you as I can.
* Low ratings for SPN's summer reruns.
During a time when the show is supposed to be drumming up new viewers, it finds itself near the bottom of the ratings on the CW. The only show ahead of it on Sunday nights was Hidden Palms, a new show which has since been cancelled. Doesn't anyone watch TV during the summer? Besides me, of course. The lack of viewers over the summer doesn't especially instil much confindence for better ratings come fall.
* Jensen in A Few Good Men.
While I wasn't there to watch him *pouts* I did read all the reviews and fan accounts. Jensen wanted to mix things up and challenge himself and he came through the nearly week-long production with flying colors. By all accounts his acting was never better and he impressed everyone with his portrayal of Lt. Kaffee. He was also very gracious and generous in meeting the fans outside after many of the performances, signing autographs and answering questions. Just further proof that Jensen is one of the most talented and nicest actors working today.
* SPN being renewed for a third season.
*squeeeee* This was the best news ever for SPN fans and I'm still celebrating. I'm also happy to say that with reruns twice a week (yay!) and a very active online fanbase, I haven't felt the loss of new episodes yet. This might change by the time August hits, but so far the summer break is going by without too much stress over the show, IMO.
* Upgrading to a paid LJ account.
This has turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. No more ads and more room for icons! I couldn't be happier!
* Jensen's outstanding peformance in AHBL, part 2 & Emmy nomination.
While Jared's acting has never been better than it was during S2, Jenen continued to impress everyone with his brilliant portrayal of Dean throughout the emotional ups and downs of the season. This all culminated in his stunning break down scene in the final episode. It is truly a performance worthy of an Emmy nomination. Hearing Jensen got the Emmy nom for this episode made me so proud. I know he sadly has little hope of ending up on the final list, but he really poured out so much emotion from that scene that he deserves some recognition. Reading about how much trouble he has with the emotional scenes on the show just makes me appreciate it even more.
* The S2 finale of SPN ending without a cliffhanger.
Kripke promised this many months ago and I was very happy when it came to fruition on May 17th. No worrying about the fate of the Winchesters this summer. The season ended with a satisfying ending that brought a call-back to the Pilot and new challenges. Sure, there's hundreds of demons to now hunt down and Dean's only got a year to live, but the YED is gone and they got to see their dad one last time. This time the Impala is perfectly intact and besides the question about Sam being 100 percent himself and Dean's soul being on the chopping block, there's very little to worry about.
So do you have anything to rant or rave about? Now's your chance...
