Happy 4th of July!

And just because I felt like it, here's a little patriotic musical gem. Btw, it's one of our old 45 rpm records that I've cleaned up digitally (one of many little projects I'm currently working on).

This song holds a special personal memory for me from way back in my junior high school days. Back then I sang in my school's choir and every year there was a big choir concert of all the choirs in our school district. Each choir, from grade schools up to the high schools, would perform some songs. Then at the end of the concert all the choirs would sing one song together. This one year in particular, the final song was "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic". Let me tell you, having that many voices all singing that song as one was very powerful! I can still remember what it sounded and felt like to be there, even after all these years.

Summer weather is here!!! I'm so happy. It's a beautiful day, even though it's a little warm for Washington (80s) and it's going to be a lovely night. Perfect for fireworks. I look forward to seeing the little shows in my own neighborhood as people fire off their own. Last year was really spectacular. This time I'm going to try to videotape some of them.
