SPN Apocalypse Music Mix
Nov. 20th, 2009 04:04 amI didn't even have any intention on putting a music mix together. I've toyed with the idea off and on over the years, but always felt my weird taste in music wouldn't jive with most of the fandom's, so I've always chickened out. However, this grouping of songs fell together so easily, so perfectly, that I've taken it as a sign and decided to share it.

It began with 2 songs I was listening to repeatedly Wednesday night while anticipating Thursday night's episode. Then on Thursday the other songs quickly followed until I had this grouping of 13. I tried to add a few others, but they didn't fit with the sound of these.
I have no idea what the rules are for posting music mixes. I know most people make CD covers, front & back, but I simply don't have time for that. What I bring is the music itself along w/my feelings about them in relationship to 5x10 (or any future episodes this season for that matter). You can download them individually, or all in a zipped folder.
These are listed here in the order I've been listening to them, but I believe any order will do.
File 1: 02 Early November.mp3 (9 MB) - By Miranda Lee Richards
http://www.sendspace.com/file/2nanf7
I like the haunting beauty of this song. It's hopeful, yet sad and melancholy in tone.
File 2: 03 - Begin.mp3 (6 MB) - By The Wailin' Jennys
http://www.sendspace.com/file/inpdd9
I'm not sure why, but when I heard this song it made me think of that kiss between Dean and Jo. It feels like a song that would be about their relationship.
File 3: 04 Nothing Else Matters.mp3 (7 MB) - By Apocalyptica
http://www.sendspace.com/file/stottk
Dark, edgy, and dramatic. This piece works on so many levels.
File 4: 06 - Starlight.mp3 (9 MB) - By The Wailin' Jennys
http://www.sendspace.com/file/z29n0r
A beautiful song about dying and wanting to go home. Beautiful blend of voices by this group as well.
Kingdom come, their will was done
And now the earth is far away
from any kind of heaven
Hallowed be these frozen fields
And every single one of us
still left in want of mercy
Take us home
File 5: 07 - Apocalypse.mp3 (8 MB) - By The Wailin' Jennys
http://www.sendspace.com/file/0ehaqe
A song about the Apocalypse with sadness & hope.
File 6: 07 Take These Thoughts.mp3 (4 MB) - By Chris And Thomas
http://www.sendspace.com/file/jdkdll
The music is what got this song added to the list. It sounds like an end of the world type of song.
File 7: [5.19] Sanders Bohlke - The Weight Of Us.mp3 (6 MB)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/dr8qlo
I couldn't stop listening to this song Wednesday night. It's sad and beautiful. I love the sound of it.
File 8: Brian De Palma Suite.mp3 (3 MB) - By Yo-Yo Ma
http://www.sendspace.com/file/a4au24
I had this in my collection and maybe it's hearing the music from "The Untouchables" that made it fit this episode so well. Lots of parallels between that movie and last night's eppy: A final photograph of friends, going into battle, sacrifices being made, losses.
File 9: I Will Follow You Into The Dark.mp3 (3 MB) - By Death Cab For Cutie
http://www.sendspace.com/file/cbyr3b
It might be a bit of a stretch for this song, but the overall theme is still death, loss, and ultimately facing death together, so IMO it still works.
If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
File 10: If Today Was Your Last Day.mp3 (4 MB) - By Nickelback
http://www.sendspace.com/file/bgdnwc
The title says it all.
File 11: More.mp3 (3 MB) - By Tyrone Wells
http://www.sendspace.com/file/1m13w2
Another song about living, about hoping for more despite the weariness of life, about not wanting to die.
File 12: Oh, Death.mp3 (4 MB) - By R.I.S.E. (Rising Appalachia)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/g9ytl1
This is the live performance of the last file. Even though this isn't what was used in the CW's ad for S5 of SPN, I still like this version.
File 13: Supernatural - O Death.mp3 (2 MB) - By Jen Titus
http://www.sendspace.com/file/nebdqz
This is the recording from the S5 SPN Promo, right off the CW's website.
