A new season and a new set of episode reviews. Enjoy!

With each of these reviews I'll include 2 cropped caps from the episode. One of Dean and one of Sam. I decided to do something different and make them b&w.

Consider these fanart. If you take either of them, please give credit. :)

So sorry about this being so late. I watched this episode so many times since it aired and then I couldn't deal with the sadness of it all, so I put the review off. Then life got busy and there were always other things that had to be done first. But here it is at long last.....if anyone's still interested.

Note: "==============" signifies a commercial break.

Recap: Meg, Ellen & Jo, going after the Colt, the demon, Crowley.

Of course, the rich dude steps in the only mud puddle in the area - LOL
Ooooh.....it's Crowley. Love the accent!
Hee! Sealed with a kiss. And Cas is watching....he's so “Book'em Danno” in that moment: “Got'em.” LOL

“Even as we speak it's....going down.” LOL
Dean calls Cas Huggy Bear! OMG Cute!
Love the disappearing trick done by Crowley and Cas.....very cool camera work.

Cas follows Crowley, but can't get into the house because of Enochian magic.

OMG Love that song! *grooves* Watching Hitler footage....interesting.
Jo! and her slinky little black dress.
These guys are really creepy.....yikes. But they're demons, so bye-bye! Heh.
Sam takes them out easily.

Crowley's not surprised to see them. “So, the Hardy Boys finally found me.” Heh.
He isn't deceived by a devil's trap either.
Uh oh....boys!!!
He has the Colt....and shoots the demons holding the guys. Huh.

He tells them he planted the info. about the Colt even existing.
He wants them to kill Lucifer with it because as much as Lucifer hates humans, he despises demons even more....they're servants. After he takes out humanity, the demons are next.
He gives the Colt to Sam....telling them Lucifer's in Carthage, Missouri.
Sam tries to shoot him, but it's out of bullets....but Crowley gives the bullets to Dean. Dean thinks Crowley's signing his own death warrant, but the demon says they're all dead anyway....and he's going to disappear....
“...and three - how about you don't miss, okay. Morons!” LOL

Par-tay!!! Everyone's gathered at Bobby's.
Ellen & Cas are having a drinking contest as Jo watches.
Cas: “I think I'm starting to feel something.” Hee!
Meanwhile, Dean & Sam are discussing strategy.
Dean makes another dig at Sam's trust issues with demons....heh.
Dean says Sam can't come to Carthage, but Sam's determined “Since when have we ever done anything smart. Haven't we learned a damn thing? If we're gonna do this, we're gonna do it together.”
Dean agrees, even though it's a stupid idea.
He soon gets distracted by Jo....
He tries to pull the whole last-night-on-earth-speech...which she totally sees through....and totally turns him down! Ouch! LOL
Poor Dean!
Bobby's setting up a camera to take everyone's picture.
He wants something to remember them by and Cas agrees that it's their last night on earth....way to bring the party down, Cas.
Love the family portrait.

==========================

They get to Carthage and the place is empty with no phone service, either. The boys check out the PD while Ellen, Jo, and Cas stay behind.
Cas says the town isn't empty and we see....it's filled with Reapers.
He goes off to see why they're there.
He soon ends up inside a building and then is engulfed with a bright light. “Hello, brother.”

The gals meet up with the boys and tell them about Cas disappearing and the Reapers.

Cas is trapped....by Lucifer. Uh oh.
He appreciates Cas's loyalty to the Winchesters, asks him how it was arrive in town in a car. Cas tells him it was slow and confining.
Lucifer: “What a peculiar thing you are.”
Cas tells him he won't take Sam Winchester. Oooh.
Lucifer says they're alike, both of them rebelled and were cast out.

The gang is confronted by Meg....and her hellhounds....uh oh.
Love the bit with Dean pointing the Colt at Meg. *guh*
Meg: “You can make this easy or you can make it really, really hard.”
Dean: “When have you know us to ever make anything easy.”

He shoots one and everyone runs.
Dean gets tackled by a hellhound and Jo saves him, only to get ripped apart by one, herself. Jo!!!!!
Dean picks her up and they all hide inside a hardware store, baracading themselves inside with a chain and rock salt.
Jo's wound is bad....omg.

=========================

Dean puts together a radio to contact Bobby.
He tells Bobby about Jo and he starts to lose it.....aww, Dean.
Bobby tries to get him to concentrate on what they do next. *loves Bobby*
With all the info. about the Reapers, Bobby puts together that Lucifer is in town to unleash Death itself.

Meg reports to Lucifer that she has the Winchesters pinned down.
Lucifer keeps making the offer to Cas, to change his mind.

The boys are trying to figure out how to get Ellen and Jo out of town, but Jo stops them.
She can't walk, she can't move, and she realizes she's not going anywhere.
Oh, Jo...
She suggest building a bomb, so she can set it off to kill the hellhounds and allow the rest of them to escape.
Ellen, understandably, isn't willing to let her go, but when Jo reminds her this might be the last chance for her to be treated as an adult, she agrees to the plan.

Boys....building the bomb.
Aww....Sam holding Jo's hand. *wibbles*
Dean gives her the trigger button, telling her he'll see her on the other side.
He kisses her on the forehead....omg.....*cries*
Then he really kisses her...a final goodbye. *weeps* So beautiful.
Ellen sits next to Jo and we (and Jo) can tell she's not going to let Jo die alone.
“Somebody's gotta let'em in. And like you said, you're not movin'. You got me, Jo. And you're right....this is important. But I will not leave you here alone.”
The boys protest, but she tells them to get going....
“And Dean....kick it in the ass. Don't miss.” Nice little tribute to Kim Manners there. *wibbles*
The boys leave and they hear the hellhounds growling, so Ellen unlocks the doors and sits with Jo.
OMG....Jo dies....*cries more*
Poor Ellen.....
The Hellhounds break in.....the boys are getting away from the building.
Ellen pushes the button and the building explodes.

The boys find Lucifer....and some of the townspeople who are standing in a field while Lucifer digs.
Sam: “Last words?”
Dean: “I think I'm good.”
Sam: “Yeah, me too.”
Oh, boys.
Dean: “Here goes nothin'.”
As Lucifer's digging, Sam approaches, but Lucifer says he'd never hurt him.
Dean then appears, pointing the Colt right at his head.
“Yeah, well I'd hurt you. So suck it!” Heh.
He fires, shooting Lucifer in the head.
There's a moment of elation from the boys, but it's short lived because the devil's still alive....”Owwwww!” LOL
He flings Dean into a tree! Owie!!!

=========================

Lucifer: “Don't feel too bad, Sam. There's only 5 things in all of creation that that gun can't kill and I just happen to be one of them.”
Sam rushes over to check on Dean....awwww.
Lucifer makes his offer again, hoping Sam will agree, but Sam refuses.
Lucifer tells him he thinks he will agree....in six months....in Detroit. Uh Oh.
Sam's spits out a venomous threat to kill Lucifer, but he just tells Sam to keep that rage going, that he'll need it.
Sam looks at the men just standing around....and Lucifer says he killed the women and children and had to leave the men for the ritual.
Lucifer: “I know what you must think of me, Sam. But I have to do this. I have to. You of all people should understand.”
Sam: “What's that supposed to mean?”
Lucifer: “I was a son. A brother, like you, a younger brother, and I had an older brother who I loved. Idolized, in fact. And one day I went to him and I begged him to stand with me, and Michael—Michael turned on me. Called me a freak. A monster. And then he beat me down. All because I was different. Because I had a mind of my own. Tell me something, Sam. Any of this sound familiar?”

Oh, Sam....don't listen to him.....you're not like him.
Sam goes back to look after Dean as Lucifer performs the ritual.
Dean wakes up as the townsmen/demons die and complete the ritual.
Lucifer: “What? They're just demons.”

Back to Meg and Cas...
Meg: “We're gonna win. Can you feel it? You cloud-hopping pansies lost the whole damn universe. Lucifer's gonna take over heaven. We're going to heaven, Clarence.”
Sneaky Cas is working on the screws of a big pipe, while he talks to Meg. Heh.
He tells her about Crowley, that Lucifer is just using demons to achieve his endgame and then he'll kill them all. Meg refuses to believe.
The pipe swings, pushing Meg inside the fire ring with Cas.
He tries to take her out, but he doesn't have that power anymore. Uh oh.
She taunts him and it almost looks like he's going to kiss her before he pushes her into the fire so he can escape. Yay! Cas!
As the earth is rumbling and Death is emerging....Cas appears and gets the boys out of there.
All we see is some clever camera work, but we don't actually see Death. Bummer!

============================

Back at Bobby's the news is on, reporting the carnage in and around Carthage, but nobody's watching.
The boys and Bobby are at the fireplace, where he places the family photo to burn.
It's a quiet scene, with no words spoken.
You can tell this is going to haunt Dean for a long time.....as he stares at the image of Jo's face being engulfed by the flames.

What can I say about this eppy that hasn't already been said by so many others? Probably nothing. It was another brilliant episode, reaching epic proportions while ripping our hearts out with the deaths of two main characters.

Many have said that Jo and Ellen died for nothing. The Colt didn't work on Lucifer, as I suspected it wouldn't. Now we know why FutureDean in "The End" couldn't kill him with it. In one way, you could take that side....say that they died for nothing. This is war. War is full of pointless deaths. Sacrifices will be made, some with a mission accomplished, others without. Jo and Ellen were willing to die for the sake of getting to Lucifer to kill him. It was a noble end, even if it didn't work. On the other hand, you could say their deaths weren't for nothing. It allowed Sam & Dean to escape from the Hellhounds. And now they know the Colt won't work. That knowledge had to be achieved somehow. Of course, I'm sad to see such loved characters go, but at the same time I'm happy with the way they went out....noble, brave, and willing to die for the good fight to save the world. It was a good end for our heroines.

What I loved:
* Sam unwilling to be left behind, despite the dangers.
* Bobby being Dean's lifeline and rock.
* Sam checking on Dean after Lucifer threw him into a tree. Awww....
* Dean kissing/saying goodbye to Jo. *wibbles*
* Dean getting visibly shaken at encountering Hellhounds again.
* Seeing Jo & Ellen again, despite it being the last time. :(
* Sneaky Cas!

In total, a knockout episode. I have my own ever-evolving theories about what will happen in the end, but I'll save those for a separate post. I loved this episode (big, surprise, right?), even though at times it's difficult to watch. The good news? There's only 35 days until the next eppy! Yay!!!!! :D
