Just when I thought the new computer was doing so well...
All I wanted to do was install my Norton Internet Security software. The computer comes with McAffee instead and it wanted to uninstall that before it installed the Norton stuff. So I said okay. It then needed to restart. It then failed to come back on. Arrggh!
Tried everything...Esc, 3 fingered salute, shutting the system off completely...nothin'. Then I couldn't even get a response from the monitor. Crap! Unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in...got some response then. Windows was in recovery mode. Great...just great. Did a scan...didn't find anything. Restored from last restore point (how great are those restore points....wow). I think part of the problem was that I had 2 of my external hard drives still connected to the computer at the time. Plus, the cable to the monitor is bent at a bad angle (me & my dumb idea to thread the cable through the stand....bad, very bad). So that was keeping me from seeing what was going on & I thought the computer was frozen.
Edit: Okay....tried it again (without the external hard drives connected). Finally got it to uninstall the McAffee software and restart successfully. Phew! Oh, well, guess it's just one of those normal "learning a new system/computer" hiccups. So all is well again. Now, to try & install the Norton software. *crosses fingers* I hate computer problems...they're so stressful. *sigh*
