Another review with caps for your enjoyment/amusement. Speaking of amusement...I realized in naming my caps that if you abbreviate Houses of the Holy you get HOTH...as in the ice planet in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back"! I just found that interesting...you know in an "observationally interesting sort of way". :P

There are 54 caps here all made by me from my DVD recording of the episode as it aired. The quality, as usual, is not the best, but if you want to take any you're welcome to do so. I cropped, resized, and adjusted them for color, contrast, and sharpness.

If you do take any for graphics etc., please consider giving me a credit. It's the nice thing to do. :)

And have I mentioned how much I love reading your comments? I read them all and try to reply to each of you as soon as I can. So once you read this review and finish drooling over the boys I'd love to hear your thoughts, rants, raves, etc. on this episode and my review/caps, too!

On to the review with some of my favorite quotes in bold...

First impressions....this episode didn't knock my socks off, but I still found it enjoyable. I was expecting to be wowed by it like I was with Faith from S1, but that didn't really happen. Nice work (as always) from Kim Manners, but I can't help but wonder how the episode would've turned out if Robert Singer had directed. He seems to have his finger on the pulse of the show's more spiritual side and he praised the Faith ep at the Paley Festival. But despite these feelings, there were some very nice moments between the brothers and those are always something I like to see.

* Hmmm. No "Then" and "Now" this week. Does that mean they're gone for good?

* Again I recognize an actress! Grrrr! Where have I seen her???

* I'm glad Jared's got that cast off, because in that orderly's outfit...that would've been too much white. *silly*

* Even though I'd already seen it in the DC, it was fun watching Dean getting all blissed out by the Magic Fingers. *giggle*

Dean: "Hey man, you gotta try this! I mean, there really is magic in the magic fingers."
Sam: "Dean, you're enjoying that way too much. It's kinda making me uncomfortable."

* I'm not even going to go into the motel decor except to say...where on earth do they find these freaky motels?

* A little nitpick here, but when is someone going to correct these guys from saying lib-ary! Please, guys! There's 2 "r"s in the word...use'em.

* The strongest element of the episode is the differences of faith revealed about the two brothers. Sam is the believer and Dean only believes what he can see. Btw, love the beautiful closeups in this scene (thank you, Kim Manners!).

* Unicorns! *giggle*

Dean: "I'm just sayin' man...there's just some legends you file under bull crap."
Sam: "And you've got angels on the bull crap list."
Dean: "Yep."
Sam: "Why?"
Dean: "Because I've never seen one."
Sam: "So what!"
Dean: "So I believe in what I can see."
Sam: "Dean, you and I've seen things that most people couldn't even dream about."
Dean: "Exactly! With our own eyes. That's hard proof."

Dean: "They find people a few fries short of a happy meal."
*gigglesnort* love that line!

Dean: "I think I learned a valuable lesson. Always take down your Christmas decorations after New Years or you might get filleted by a hooker from God."
Sam: "I'm laughing on the inside."

* And there just happens to be 2 shovels under that guy's house so they can dig up that skeleton....riiiiiight. I'm just sayin', it's a bit of a coincidence.

* They're using mirrors again! And Dean longing for the Magic Fingers was too cute! But so was Sam's response.

Dean: "Didja bring quarters?"
Sam: "Dude! I'm not enabling your sick habit. You're like one of those lab rats who pushes the pleasure button instead of the food button until it dies."
Dean: "What are you talkin' about, I eat."

I'm including the following caps from this scene because I thought the lighting was great here...plus the guys look great! Seven lovely caps below...

Dean: "Yep. Roma Downey made him do it." Oh Dean! The guy never ceases to make me laugh.

* Yay! Jay Gruska! I love the music when they're breaking into the second dead guy's house! And two guys never looked better coming in through a window! *g* (Sorry I don't have a cap of it, they were just moving too much!)

* I like Sammy as a computer hacker! That little smile he gives as he's cracking the guy's security code. "Not any more." Hee!

* I'm just as shocked as Dean is that Sam prays every day and has been praying for some time. Of course, now I'm wondering when he started. Clearly it was something John didn't believe in or Dean would have picked up the habit, too. So he didn't start praying as a child. Perhaps it was Jessica's influence?

* I love Sam's reaction to seeing the angel...the look on his face is beautiful!

* Awwww! Loved the LimpSam moment with Dean getting all worried and protective when he finds Sam in a heap on the floor.

* Since when does Dean carry a flask???? This seems out of character for him, especially since he just recently got on Sam's case for getting drunk in Playthings. It kind of disturbs me. Does this mean Dean might easily turn to drinking as the issues with Sam turning evil really kick in? I know some fanfic has depicted Dean drinking when things got to be too much, but I've never been able to see that myself...until now.

* What a great scene between them in the church. Great acting from both Jared & Jensen. Jared does a nice job of describing how seeing the angel felt and Jensen stuns yet again with his telling of how Mary believed in angels. So sad how Dean lost his faith with his mother's death. She believed in something good and pure, but it didn't save her so now there's no longer any higher power or good on the earth for Dean. And on a fangirly note: Jensen looked absolutely gorgeous in this scene! *guh*

I've got 10 caps of this scene...it was just too good not to cap the heck out of it. :D

Dean: "There's no higer power. There's no God. There's just chaos and violence and random unpredictable evil that comes out of nowhere...and rips you to shreds."
Great writing with that line, which has to be my favorite from the episode. And Jensen delivered it perfectly. Poor Dean! I just wanted to hug him after he said that. He's so damaged by all the darkness and evil he's seen from such a young age.

Sam: "Dude! Alright, I'll admit, we've gone pretty ghetto with the spell work before, but this takes the cake. I mean, a Spongebob placemat instead of an altar cloth?"
Dean: "We'll just put it Spongebob side down."
*gigglesnort* just too cute...it made me giggle!

* Dean's not about to let Sam kill anyone, even if he say's he's just gonna stop the guy. Doesn't even let poor Sammy in the car. And I don't know why I never thought of this before, but why doesn't Sam have a set of car keys? Dean's so possessive about the Impala that he won't let Sam have a set?

* I think Jared's reading of Latin has improved. Granted, when we heard him speak it before he was yelling it on a noisy plane, but still...he sounded really good this time. I love it when they guys speak Latin...it's so cool and HOT!

* Love Sam's reaction to getting caught doing the seance by the priest. He starts to make something up and then just decides to tell him the truth, because...well this is a priest and Sam just can't lie to a priest.

* HeroDean! to the rescue! Love him knocking out the bad guy against the steering wheel...it's just so tough guy and makes my fangirly heart beat faster. Heehee! Then he slides across the hood of the car to get to the girl and make sure she's okay. Mmmmmm....what a man! Dean Winchester can come to my rescue anytime!

* I'm sorry, but I just don't get why Dean would suddenly begin to believe in a higher power just because that guy got speared by that pipe. It just seems like such a random unpredictable event that could have occured for any reason, not necessarily devine intervention. Call me a skeptic, but I was expecting there to be something more here that would change Dean's perspective. He was so against angels and God before and this is what convinces him of their existance?

* The final scene is perfect. Once again, the tables have turned and Sam is the one with doubts while Dean is finding himself possibly believing for the first time. Jared does an outstanding job with Sam's speech. And Jensen, well, we don't even have to mention his fine work anymore, do we? He just keeps knockin' them out of the park with each episode. Watching the scene I just couldn't help thinking that these guys need to be nominated for their acting skills. They just fed off each other's lines with such skill and ease. All the facial expressions and voice inflections were just right. The music (Knocking On Heaven's Door)...just killed me. Such a haunting song for a scene which still has Sam voicing concern over his destiny. It was yet another amazing song choice for the end of the episode that just fits the mood of the scene perfectly.

Next week's episode promises to be one of the most anticipated, and possibly the most difficult to watch of the season. Poor Sammy! Poor Dean! I can't wait! I actually have a whole theory about this next episode, but I'm going to make it a special post...so stay tuned!

Just a few extra caps that didn't fit in with my review...
