Thanks for the heads up from [livejournal.com profile] ckll over at [livejournal.com profile] dean_sam there is this very cool on location report about some filming for 4x01 in Delta. There's an awesome little video there too, be sure to watch it! Oh, and the boys weren't there, this was more 2nd unit filming. No real spoilers, btw, but if you've read the sides for 4x01 you now know a little bit extra. Heehee! If you're wondering what I'm referring to, just LJ message me. I want to keep this post spoiler free for people. ;)

Since this is the first report of any kind we've gotten so far for this season, of course I had to map the area out. :D

The article states...

The “American” images that will air this fall when the television series begins season four are actually being shot in Delta, just south of Boundary Bay Airport where the Second World War military barracks used to be.

Here's a map of the Boundary Bay Airport in Delta:

And a wider view, pointing out it's relative location from the studio in Burnaby:

Just for kicks, I took a look at the area south of the airport and found this open area with lots of trees. Not much there, but a lot of open ground and a little dirt road, so I figure this might be the area they've been using. Everything else is either the nearby golf course, or farmland. The point at the top of the picture is the airport's runway and just to the south of this image is the water, so if they are indeed filming just "south of Boundary Bay Airport" this must be it. :)

Maps provided by Google Maps & the aerial view provided by Live Search Maps powered by Microsoft Virtual Earth.

On a more personal note, as exciting and cool as this article and video is, it's also kind of depressing. The article lists dozens of U.S. film/TV productions which have filmed in the area. There's also this statistic:

The B.C. Film Commission estimates there are 40,000 people directly and indirectly employed in the film, TV and new media industries.

As a struggling filmmaker trying to find decent work in the Seattle, WA area, this is frustrating. It was bad enough when so many TV shows decided to film in Canada, but now Portland, Oregon is becoming a popular filming location. Filming opportunities to the north and the south, but very little right here. *sighs* Small steps are being made, but it's still nothing like when Northern Exposure was here. So, yeah...loved the article, but reading more about all the productions up there kinda stung a bit. *sulks* :(
