Olympic Observations

A few more thoughts as the Winter Olympics wind down...
♦ I liked the alpine events...for the first few days, but now? *yawn*
♦ Ski Cross was pretty darned exciting though. ;)
♦ Loved the Ice Dancing competition even more than the Pairs comp. Somehow the Pairs was boring and it looked like everyone was skating the same routine. In Ice Dancing there was much more room for creativity (despite the new rules) and it showed. Proud of Canada and the US for earning Gold and Silver.
♦ Watching Joannie Rochette skate was something special. So much grace under unbelievable pressure and loss.
♦ Kim Yu-Na was beautiful. In fact, most of the women were. Great to see everyone do their best and I was happy with the results.
♦ Disappointed that Apolo Ohno got disqualified from that one race. Thankfully he made up for it in the relay and helped the US team win Bronze. :)
♦ Bob Costas needs to learn some fashion sense. That ugly beige sweater he wore that one evening was like something your grandpa would wear. Thankfully he went back to a simple shirt, tie, coat afterwards, but c'mon, man! Beige????
♦ So I wondered why Costas was constantly going on about float planes there in Vancouver, 'cause we have them here in Seattle, too. I found out from a flisty that they're unheard of on the east coast of the US. Huh.
♦ US vs Canada in Men's Hockey? Dude, this is gonna be EPIC! I'm not a hockey fan, but I'm so watching that tomorrow. :)
♦ Hurray for the US Men winning the Gold in the 4-man bobsled!!!! Woot!
♦ First there wasn't enough snow and people complained. Then it snowed and got foggy and people complained. Today, it was rainy and yep, people complained. Seriously? You expect perfect weather for an Olympics? This is the northwest....this is what weather's like up here. :P
Dear NBC....Not only do you suck for sticking Curling on cable, and for tape delaying the Olympics coverage for those of us on the west coast, but your scheduling of events for your primetime broadcasts royally sucks ass! There are usually 4 or 6 events you have laid out each evening and what do you do? Split them up so much it's hard to watch any properly.
A lot of people like figure skating, but what did you do? You had maybe one or two skaters at the beginning of the broadcast and then you didn't get back to it again until after 10 p.m. Awful! Tonight's has been the worst by far though. The Figure Skating Gala is usually seen as a whole, but you've repeatedly broken it up and jumped around between other events: alpine, bobsled, and I don't know what else. It's distracting and damned annoying. It's not like I have another choice if I wanna watch the Olympics, but while I was impressed with how you started broadcasting the Games, I'm now left with a sour taste in my mouth. You'd better redeem yourself during the Closing Ceremonies. No wonder I don't watch anything on your network anymore.
