It's now Christmas Eve and we've come to the end of this year's Yuletide Tunes. I've saved what I think to be the best for last. Particular standouts are Rosemary's song (which is THE version used at the end of SPN's Xmas episode!), the beautiful selection from "The Santa Clause" soundtrack, Nat King Cole's classic, a very jaunty version of "Jingle Bells" by Frank, and the loveliest version of "White Christmas" I've ever heard. Then there's the top songs: The Barenaked Ladies & Sarah jamming, the little gem of "Christmas Island" (if this song doesn't get your hips swaying nothing will!), and the best of the best! - Burl Ives singing "Holly Jolly Christmas"!!! :D

Since we're down to the last two days until Christmas, I'm doubling up on songs. I've chosen the songs for both days and there's a whopping 10 songs for each! There's a full range here, from swingin' Ella, jubilation with Jose and Michael, some Texas twang with George (thinking of our own 2 Texas boys *g*), and some fun with Stan. Enjoy! :D

Another 4 random songs to share. Funny how most of them turned out to be about winter weather or snow, considering there's a HUGE winter storm hitting the U.S. west coast this weekend. Here in WA they're forecasting high winds, below freezing temps, and possibly lowland snow. Eeep.

This is the final Songs of the Season post for this Holiday season. I hope you've enjoyed all the Yule Tunes (Heehee!). I didn't get the full 24 days, but I came awfully close!

If you'd like to see a list of all the songs, you can check out my LJ Misc page on my Raloria's Resources site. Most of the links have expired by now, but if you still want any of the songs, just leave me a comment here and let me know which song or songs you'd like, and I'll re-upload them for you. You won't get them in time for this Christmas, but there's always next year, right? ;)

This final edition has some of my very favorite Christmas songs, along with some last minute bonus songs I just had to include. It's been great bringing all this great music to you. Enjoy the tunes! :D

Day 20 --

A Holly Jolly Christmas -- By Burl Ives from "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas".

This song is hands down, my favorite Christmas song...ever! It's happy and bouncy and just makes me all Christmas-y! It's like the holiday season doesn't really begin until I hear this song and every time I hear it on the radio I just have to turn it up loud. Listen to this song and "have a cup of cheer" on me!

Jingle Bell Rock -- By Bobby Helms from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 1".

This song holds some special memories for me. When I was in junior high school we would do dancing in gym class between Thanksgiving up to Christmas break. It was great fun! One of the dances we always learned was to this song and believe it or not, I still remember some of the steps! I love this song!

White Christmas -- By Bing Crosby from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 1".

You can't go wrong with this perfect classic by "der Bingle" himself! This song just makes me feel nostalgic for Christmases of the past, when I was a kid and couldn't wait to wake up Christmas morning and see what was in my stocking!

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen -- By The Barenaked Ladies & Sarah McLachlan from an unknown online source.

I discovered this great, modern take on a traditional carol last Christmas and fell instantly in love with it. I've been known to play it 5 times in a row. The acoustic guitars, the blending of voices, the tempo are all wonderful!

Christmas Island -- By Spike Jones & his Orch. from "Let's Sing A Song Of Christmas".

There's a version of this little known song sung by The Andrews Sisters, but this recording is my favorite. A lovely little Christmas carol from the tropics!

Bonus Songs:

The Magic Of The Night -- By Enya from "Sound Of The Season" via an online blog.

I came across this song a few days ago as I was listening to AccuRadio and just had to track it down! I'm a big Enya fan from way back, so it's easy to fall in love with any of her stuff. This is just....beautiful.

Believe (From The Polar Express) -- By Josh Groban from an unknown online source.

I actually bought the soundtrack to this film without having actually seen the film itself! I've got the movie recorded off the TV now, but have only seen part of it. LOL! But last year, this song was being played on the radio a lot and I fell in love with it. Such a pretty melody, and Josh's voice is, as always, heavenly.

Stop The Cavalry -- By The Cory Band & The Gwalia Singers from an online source.

This song is going to seem like a very odd one to include, but there's a reason. This song is rather famous in the Pacific Northwest. It's by far, the most requested song on the radio during the holiday season. Several years ago, a station played it and it's been the talk of the town ever since! It's that song that you hear and go "What is that? I've gotta have that song!". I'm going to include a link to the lyrics, because they're kind of hard to make out and everyone always wonders what they're saying. I'm just glad that I was able to find it online to share with all of you, because other than hearing it on the radio, only one store in the area sells the CD containing this song! So it's kind of rare. Enjoy!

I'm going to try to post one or two several seasonal/holiday songs a day. These will come from either my own CD collection or my online findings. I'll try my best to make a post each day and we'll see how many I can get done by Christmas day. These songs will run the gamut: from traditional to modern takes on old classics. There will be country, pop, jazz, oldies, big band, new age, comedy....anything and everything. And don't think that if you don't celebrate Christmas that there won't be anything for you. Not all of the offerings will be specific to Christmas. Some will be just about winter. They will all be favorites of mine and I'll give you some info. and why it's my fave with each song. Happy Listening!

Note: I'm using SendSpace for all of these downloads. If you have any trouble getting a song and would like me to use MegaUpload instead, just let me know and I'll try to get it up for you there.

I will also have each of these posts available to all for one week and then will Friends lock them.

*** There will be one last post for Monday with 5 of my very favorite Christmas songs! :) ***

Day 19 --

Snow For Johnny -- By Burl Ives from "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas".

For those of you who live in an area of the world where you don't get snow, this song is for you. It's about a little boy in Louisiana who wishes for some snow for Christmas.

Mary's Little Boy Child -- By The Boston Pops from "Holiday Pops".

This is a very celebratory and uplifting song with a Caribbean flair.

Sleigh Ride -- By The Boston Pops from "Holiday Pops".

A fun rendition of Sleigh Ride as only the Boston Pops can do, with a full choir coming along for the ride.

Winter Wonderland -- By Johnny Mathis from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 3".

You can almost feel the bitter chill of snowfall in this classic song by Johnny Mathis.

Victor Young Medley -- By Spike Jones & his Orch. from "Let's Sing A Song Of Christmas".

Spike Jones was known for his more irreverent and fun songs, but on his Christmas album he also included some lovely traditional and not so traditional songs. This is a fine example and is a wonderful medley that is both energetic and gentle. To me, this is like a living Christmas card, full of life and warm wishes.

Day 18 --

Christmas Is A Birthday -- By Burl Ives from "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas".

A lovely reminder of what Christmas is really all about. I don't know why, but I often get this song's chorus stuck in my head....it's so pretty with the choir's voices blending so nicely.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year -- By Andy Williams from "The Andy Williams Christmas Album".

A celebration of why this time of year is so wonderful!

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer -- By Gene Autry from "The Best of Christmas, Volume 4".

The classic and best-selling song about the most famous reindeer of all.

Ding Dong Merrily On High -- By The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra from "Christmas Choral Classics".

I love the sound of this track...rousing and glorious!

Jingle Bells -- By The Mills Brothers from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 1".

This is a great and jumpin' version of Jingle Bells!

Day 17 --

I've got a little treat today....a couple of selections from the Nutcracker Suite and the remaining songs from Ruduolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. And don't worry about the song "Holly Jolly Christmas" not being here...I'll be posting it soon! :)

Waltz Of The Flowers -- By The Royal Philharmonic Orch. from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 5".

This is by far my favorite selection from the Nutcracker.

Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy -- By The Royal Philharmonic Orch. from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 5".

This track is a close second.

There's Always Tomorrow -- By Janet Orenstein from "Rudolph, Frosty and Friends' Favorite Christmas Songs".

I've always loved this song. So full of hope and inspiration.

We're A Couple Of Misfits -- By Billie Richards and Paul Soles from "Rudolph, Frosty and Friends' Favorite Christmas Songs".

Rudolph and Hermie (Herbbie?) show us some misfit power.

The Most Wonderful Day Of The Year -- By the chorus from "Rudolph, Frosty and Friends' Favorite Christmas Songs".

The Island of Misfit Toys sing about Santa and his big night.

Day 16 --

After the silliness of yesterday, I'm going with a much softer and more mellow set of tracks today.

The Christmas Waltz -- By Frank Sinatra from "A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra".

A lovely, gentle waltz from Frank. Take a twirl out on the dance floor.

Ave Maria -- By Celine Dion from "These Are Special Times".

There are many recordings of this classic, but I really enjoy this version by Celine Dion.

C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S -- By Eddy Arnold from " Christmas With Eddy Arnold".

Another favorite from the Eddy Arnold Christmas album.

White Christmas -- By The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra from "Christmas Choral Classics".

I love the classic Bing Crosby version, but this is a close second. I just love choral music and this track is a great example.

Day 15 --

Since it's the Wednesday before Christmas, I thought we could use a little humor and fun to get through the rest of the week. So here's a few songs to put a smile on your face and brighten your day!

Funky, Funky Christmas -- By New Kids On The Block from "Merry, Merry Christmas".

Yep. It's NKOTB. I was a huge fan of theirs. Had it all: posters, dolls, puzzles, CDs, books, pillows, towels, bedding....yeah...I was obsessed. :D This is a fun rap song from their Christmas album.

The Twelve Gifts Of Christmas -- By Allan Sherman from an online blog.

This is one of my favorite humorous Xmas songs. I'd actually recommend any of Allan Sherman's songs...they're great. This is his take on the Twelve Days of Christmas. "And all that other stuff...." Heehee.

Nuttin' For Christmas -- By Barry Gordon from an online blog.

This is kinda a classic for me. I can still remember singing this in grade school! A bit of fun from the poor kid who's been "nothin' but bad".

Christmas Dragonet -- By Stan Freberg from an online blog.

I'm a big Stan Freberg fan, too. Go check his stuff out...you can't go wrong. Anyone who knows of the 1950s detective show of Dragnet will enjoy this. But even if you don't know that show, this is a humorous piece. The detectives prove to a disbeliever that there is a Santa Claus. Just remember...."Most folks call them green onions, but they're really scallions." ;)

Day 14 --

Happy Holidays - The Holiday Season -- By Andy Williams from "The Andy Williams Christmas Album".

This is a great song medley to help you get in the Christmas spirit!

Mistletoe & Holly -- By Frank Sinatra from "A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra".

Another favorite from ol' Blue Eyes himself.

One Bright Star (This Christmas Night) -- By Vince Gill from "Let There Be Peace On Earth".

I was a big Vince Gill fan back in the day, even went to a few concerts. Since then I've sort of strayed away from the current crop of country music artists, preferring to stick with the ones I enjoyed in the past. This is one of my favorites from his first Christmas album.

Rockin' Round The Christmas Tree -- By Brenda Lee from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 1".

This is an old favorite. I've seen Brenda Lee's show in Branson, Missouri and I can tell you she performs this hit year round, lit up Christmas tree on the stage and everything!

Day 13 --

I've got a great lineup today, if I do say so myself. All are winners! :D

Christmas Can't Be Far Away -- By Eddy Arnold from "Christmas With Eddy Arnold".

This is a big favorite of mine. The whole album is great, especially if you're an Eddy Arnold fan like me. I was lucky enough to find this rare CD on my trip to Nashville many years ago. This is a great song highlighting all the signs that Christmas is on its way.

Jingle Bells -- By Frank Sinatra from "A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra".

This is another of my top favorite songs. This version of Jingle Bells is just so hip, it had to be by Sinatra. I first heard this version in a local grocery store several years ago. There was a Starbucks inside the store and you could smell the coffee. Btw, I love the smell of coffee, just don't care for the taste of it. That combined with their warm, cozy lighting just made an impression on me for some reason and that song became a favorite from that moment on.

The Christmas Song -- By Nat King Cole from "The Best Of Christmas, Volume 2".

It just isn't Christmas without hearing this perennial favorite. Many have recorded this classic, but nobody did it quite like Nat King Cole. Mellow and nostalgic, its tones envelope you like a warm blanket.

Frosty The Snowman -- By Jimmy Durante from "Rudolph, Frosty and Friends' Favorite Christmas Songs".

Gotta have a little fun thrown in here. Along with the Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer TV special, this one is my second favorite.

*** I'd love a comment if you're downloading any of the songs, thanks! ***
