So sorry for the long silence of over 2 months. *sigh* It was NOT intentional at all.
Life, y'all. It's a crazy mess!

But I'm not going to let it stop me. Last week, I updated the look of this journal for Fall.
Very orangey, I know. LOL

And now...to hopefully get myself regularly posting here - I'm unofficially joining in on NaBloPoMo2024. I didn't fill out the form to officially join-in...I'm just doing this for all of you (and myself). Do I promise I'm going to post every day of November? I'll try, but I make no guarantees.

In other news...I'm about to start my "usual" annual re-watch of Gilmore Girls. I normally would've started a month ago, but again...that darned "real life" getting in my way! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone wanted to join me in my re-watch? We wouldn't watch the episodes together (because scheduling is hard!) but we would agree to converse together (through email, messaging, whatever) about our thoughts of each episode plus post thoughts to our journals. It would be nice to watch 1 or 2 episodes per week. I'd like to start this coming Monday, Nov. 4th. Anyone up for it?

I have a new Screencap site!

Well, it's really a Dreamwidth community, but...same thing. ;)

Check Your DVDs!

My mom & I are currently (since New Year's Eve 2020) been on a project of watching our entire collection of movies on DVD: from A-Z (by title). We're currently in the B's.

However, we've already run into playback issues and after the one tonight, I realized they were all Warner Brothers DVDs. A quick Google search, and sure enough, this is a well-known problem. Apparently, WB used to press their discs at a plant in PA, but since 2010 moved their disc-manufacturing to Mexico. It's all those PA discs that are causing problems. The years of manufacturing seem to be from 2006-2009.

Our issues so far:

The Matrix: This was our 1st issue, before we even decided to watch our whole collection. I can't even get the Menu screen to load.
Annie Get Your Gun: Froze during the layer change. Could almost get it to play past the problem chapter, but it got too aggravating.
Royal Wedding: Froze during the layer change. I tried to move past the problem chapter (18) but it kept freezing on the Scene Selection page and then playing one of the extras.

There's a great (and long!) thread of people reporting issues with their own WB DVDs over at Home Theater Forum. It is very informative about the problems people have had and a solution: WB will try to replace your defective DVDs (for free!). As long as they're still making DVDs (or Blu-Rays) of the movie, they'll mail you a new disc.

Something else that people have noticed: just because your DVD plays well today, doesn't mean that it will tomorrow, or months from now. And in DVD sets, some discs will be fine and others will not. Seems like these PA factory pressed DVDs are ticking time bombs. You never know when they'll fail. *sigh*

Thankfully, it looks like the Made On Demand (MOD) DVDs from the Warner Archive site are all doing just fine.

So this is pretty disappointing! Here we thought back in the day when DVDs first came out that they were going to be THE final way to archive movies. DVDs were supposed to last forever, right? Not so much.

Anyway, I thought I'd post this as a heads-up for anyone else (like us) who still have DVDs in their possession.

Fool Me Twice PhotoBucket

Yep, PB is back to it's old tricks, even under new management which I reported on back in March of 2018.

They're still a bunch of greedy SOBs.

Because my accounts are over PB's bandwidth limit (25mb), pretty much all my images are blurred out w/a PB logo on them. Goody.

My options? Pay up for unlimited bandwidth at $75 a year or delete/download images to lighten the bandwidth & storage limit for Free PB accounts. Keep in mind that you can only download images from your albums INDIVIDUALLY! Are you friggin' kidding me?!?

I have 42,833 images in one account, 35,820 in the other.

Yeah. That ain't happening.

For comparison: I pay roughly $25 a year for my SlickPic account with unlimited storage & bandwidth.

I'm so over PhotoBucket's shenanigans. Truly.
And they've got the nerve to post to their blog how they lost & regained their customer's trust!
What a bunch of liars!

I can't afford $75 a year, especially for 2 accounts.
Which means all my old posts are going to look ugly. Sorry. There's no way I can re-upload thousands of caps , fanart, icons, etc. to SlickPic & then replace all the links. It's just not going to happen. If I even get back to doing my SPN Revealed posts, I'd be willing to go back & replace all those caps. That's the only exception. Thankfully, I only got through Season 1 & part of Season 2 with those.

Ooop. One exception...
Found out my SPN Episode Title Caps have been effected because most of them (Seasons 1-12) were hosted on PB. Damn. So now I'm going through & saving all those caps, one by one. 'Cause I want all those posts restored, dammit! Yeah, this will take a while...
And yeah, I probably have them all backed-up somewhere. I never delete anything like caps. I looked up when I started those posts and it was back in 2011. Well, a lot was going on back then, and I can't say where those caps are. So...saving from PB is the only way. *sigh*

Jensen's EW Interview on FB Live at SDCC 2018 Caps

It took all afternoon, but we finally got a bit of SPN coverage from SDCC with this short interview with Jensen on Friday evening. I watched it live on Facebook, but it wasn't until the thing was nearly over that I thought of grabbing a few screenshots. So this is all I've got. Not much, but I didn't expect the interview to be so short. Warnings for some mild S14 spoilers.

"OH, BOY!"

Tonight the wonderful SPN_sil on Twitter announced she is no longer going to be covering SPN conventions on Twitter due to her new job and personal reasons. I used to cover cons myself on Storify back when I initially started on the site (I think it was 2013?). I stopped in 2015 when I fell behind and Sil began con coverage with her team. I instead concentrated my Storify posts on Tweets about the SPN Production and namely info. about when and where they were filming.

So with SPN_sil calling it quits, it looks like I'm needed for convention coverage once again.
You know...on top of all the other things I'm doing. 'Cause I've got ALL this time on my hands...obviously. :P

Ha! In all honesty though, this might be the spark I need to light a fire under my butt and get in gear to get myself better organized and actually....you know, get things done. Like I used to.

Or it will be one of the worst decisions ever and a total disaster.

Either way, I've got the experience, so why not step up and take over?
I've supported Sil and her team since day one and I know how much work they've put into the cons they've covered. I only hope I can get close to filling the gap myself. Who needs sleep, right?

Fortunately, I've got a week until ChiCon to prepare and to see if I can actually do this.

Random Ramblings

♦ Who knew you couldn't use Spotify in the Safari web browser??? WTH??? *fumes* I looked into why, but then my eyes glazed over because apparently there isn't any solution. Grrr! Well, that's annoying! Especially since I'm trying to use my Safari browser more now, because for some reason when I watch online videos too long in any other browser, my CPU heats up. WTH is with that??? *sigh*

♦ I uploaded the above animation to one of my old Photobucket accounts. Yes, still trying to decide what to do about them - which account to sign up for with payments again, now that they've got more reasonable plans. I wouldn't have even uploaded it to PB, but I can't get into my account at PhotoLand.io!!!! That's where I've been uploading and posting my gifs from. All of a sudden there's no way to sign in with Twitter, which is what I used. Gah!!!! I've contacted them about it, ~~but who knows if I'll ever get a response.~~ Well, speak of the devil....just got this email from them:

Well, I'll give them points for getting back to me so quickly. Sad that I can't get into my account there though. Serves me right for going the shortcut way into signing into a site. *sigh* So I guess I'll be using my PB accounts again for now...

Ok. Wow! The PhotoLand Support Team literally just got back to me, saying the problem is fixed. Sure enough, I was able to log in w/Twitter and upload the gifs. Yay! Very impressive support at PhotoLand!

♦ For my artsy & craftsy friends, I got quite the deal this past week at Hobby Lobby. A Marvy waterbrush marked down to $1.24, a set of Faber Castell 24 Watercolor Pencils marked down to $3.74 (from $14.99), and a set of 25 Stabilo colored pens marked down to $7.49 (from $29.99!). I've always been curious about the Stabilo pens because I've heard such good things about them (they are good!) but the price always turned me off. No more! These aren't the first great deals I've found at HL. A month or so ago I finally got a Gouache set of paints that was marked way down. I do love saving money on supplies!

♦ I found a great site for free book PDFs! Check out Ocean Of PDF! I've already got a few of them loaded on my phone for reading there. Such a great selection.

♦ Since SPN is finished for the summer, it's time to start in on updating the Locations List (LL) with Season 13 for

spn_locations. Problem is...looking up addresses on Google Maps really eats up my internet data. *heavy sigh* I could really use some help from volunteers, but I've failed to use people in the past so I'm pretty sure it's a waste of time. People don't want to risk it. Of course, this time I KNOW what I would have volunteers help me with! :(

♦ Late add-in Edit!!!! OMG Does anyone else play Candy Crush on their phone??? I've been stuck on a level before, but nothing like with Level 149! OMG!!!! I CANNOT GET THROUGH IT!!!!! I've lost track of how many times I've played that level. And I've had tons of help from the game, but alas....still stuck. Gah!

Photobucket is under new management and w/a new CEO!!!! Begone you greedy bastard who raised the price to $400 a year to maintain 3rd party hosting! Saner heads are now in charge!

They've restored all the previously blocked images. I checked and all my old images are indeed viewable again.
No more of this ugly thing!

Video & Caps : SPN S13 Just Before

This video from SPN is so much fun! I'm totally geeky over anything with SPN's production and these little views of the actors just moments before "Action!" is called and then what happens after are truly a treat!

Btw, this immediately made me think of the opening credits for "The Fall" from 2006 and not just because they used the same music. After all, that movie began with looking at a movie production in the 1920s (an accident out on location involving a train, stuntmen, and a horse falling into a river) and it was beautifully filmed in slow-motion. Check it out HERE.

Anyway, nothing spoilery here, unless you haven't seen any of the Season 13 episodes to date.

Art Journal: Pushing Through

Last month I had grand plans to join in on this month's Inktober. Failed at it last year and I wanted to give it another go. Well, life had other ideas, as my first week of October was a very rough one. So much for plans.

Lately, I really haven't had the time or energy to do anything artistic. It's been making me feel a little antsy and tonight I decided enough was enough and I was going to do something no matter what or how simple.

So I grabbed some Mermaid Markers by Jane Davenport and drew simple squiggles and loops in one of my art journals. I really like the results. It's not overly complicated, it doesn't have any meaning, it's just colorful lines on paper and it only took me a few minutes to do. So maybe I haven't been able to participate in Inktober. Doing these pages made me feel better - just like that. :)

Sadly, the video of J2 is not very good quality. Not sure what was used to film them. However, Misha's video is nice and sharp. *sigh* So these caps are a reflection of the differing video qualities.

VanCon 2017 Videos: Sunday Opening Of J2 Panel

This is my last video of the con. :(
Sorry about the blurry beginning, but it clears up real fast and in time for the stage jump. *glees* Btw, the boys ran up onto the stage from the back of the room (or at least the doors on the side). I see they did it again at PittCon, too - but they did it here at VanCon first!

Hope you've enjoyed all these videos. There will be some filming-on-location ones once 13x03 airs. ;)
