Watched a youtube video where this gal fangirled and gushed over seeing her favorite singer in an upcoming concert for the first time and it made me think of meeting Jensen for the first time. There's nothing that can replace that first con, of seeing the actors, that first photo-op, talking to them, realizing that they are indeed right in front of you as they sign their autograph, of meeting other fans and realizing you're not some sort of freak. A lot of that first-time feeling fades over time and I find myself grasping to get it back. But that's impossible. You can never re-live a first time. It is special, treasured, unique.

I think that's why I adore and envy the newbies I meet each year at VanCon. Their excitement is a delight and takes me back to when I was like that, soaking in everything that a con provides. They're so nervous in the photo-op and autograph lines and I try to settle them down, but it's really impossible. I know, I've been there. In fact, sometimes I still get nervous waiting in line. What will I say? What will I do? Sometimes I have a plan and sometimes I don't. And sometimes I have a plan until I get up to them and then it all flies out the window! But I welcome the nervousness, because it's that one little bit of newbie-ness that I retain. It gives me at least a tiny taste of that first photo-op with Jensen all over again. ♥

It's frightening looking back over my first con photos. So many blurry, out of focus shots! New camera and no con photography experience, coupled with the fact that I was way back in Row H. But a few shots look semi-decent, like this one from Jensen's final solo panel.

I think this was when he was asked if he'd ever been hurt while filming SPN.

"I do remember in AHBL part II, when YED throws Dean into one of the tombstones and it comes up it's just before where Dean shoots him with the colt. I fell into the tombstone that they had softened on one side, but not on the other, it was a tombstone, and I fell so, I jumped back and hit it so hard, because I had a back pad on, but my elbow didn't have any pads, and I hit the corner of the stone right in funny bone - there's nothing funny about it, and It was Fred Lehne's coverage so it was over my shoulder, and I hit it so hard that my arm was shaking, and my hand felt like it was on fire. And I started tearing up, my eyes were welling, because it hurt so bad, and I had to continue to do the scene. We ended up doing it, but to this day, it's more sensitive than the one on my left arm."

Those lovely hands! Hey, metallidean_grl, there's that 3-strand bracelet. *g* Note the damaged fingernail. Jensen was giving different reasons for the injury during the con (fight mistake or dropped dumbbell). Either way, if you look closely during a lot of the middle episodes of S5 you'll see him trying to hide it from the camera.

One problem with shooting photos at a convention without a flash is that you often get the benefit or harm from the flashes of others. This one lit up his face without overexposing it too much.

I know Jensen's expression is going to come under question here so let me explain. I believe this is when he was talking about working on Smallville and working with Jane Seymour. "I'll tell ya what. She played my mother and she's an older woman, but damn is she sexy." I love Jensen in B&W. I know I say that all the time, but it's always true. :)

While at VanCon 09, my mom & I drove around to various locations used for SPN. One thing I quickly found out is that I'm great at finding locations from hundreds of miles away, online, and through Google Maps, but put me in the actual area where everything is and I get lost! LOL Too funny. So I can find this stuff easily online but not in real life. :P We still had fun and got to see a lot of great locations.

I'm splitting this into 2 posts to cover the 2 days we went out. We left Vancouver on Tuesday, but spent the entire day roaming around hunting down locations, only heading south for home when it started getting dark.
