The big announcement today is that The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev is leaving the show after 6 seasons.

Well, hell...might as well end the whole show then without it's lead character.

I've watched since the beginning, but I must admit the show's been falling apart the past couple of seasons. I'm sick of the whole Elena/Damon storyline. I liked her with Stefan sooooo much better. I mean, they even made a big point of saying the 2 of them had always been together, were meant to be together throughout time with their doppelgangers and STILL they put Elena and Damon together instead. Gah!!!!!

Why oh why did they have Caroline turn off her humanity??? I can't stand her now. She's simply NOT likable! And c'mon! Friends die left and right and mommy dying is what pushes her over the edge and makes her decide she can't take the pain anymore? Oh! But for only a year, then she'll turn the humanity back on. Uh...guess what sweetie, that pain you're avoiding? It'll still be there after a year. Mommy's not going to magically be back and you'll still be alone in the world except for the few friends you have. Ugh! I just...it's frustrating. And just when it looked like they were going to put her and Stefan together (oh, no...can't have that!) they pull this to tear them apart. *sigh* Yes, IMO if Stefan can't be with Elena, I'm totally for him being with Caroline. They've been such great friends, after all.

I have other complaints, but Nina leaving just proves that the show has reached it's end. Made me realize that it's simply been spinning it's wheels for a while now. Sadly, it's already been renewed for a 7th season. What on earth are they going to do without the Elena character? Pair up Caroline with Stefan and Bonnie with Damon? Sheesh. The show revolved around her character from day one. I simply can't imagine it going on without her.

A couple of songs I've found and loved thanks to The Vampire Diaries. TV shows are such a treasure trove of new music discoveries!

Love the tempo here.

The piano in this song is so beautiful and haunting.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal. :)

Pick your five favorite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions. Don't cheat!
Yes, I removed all the "u"s from the favorites. Don't hate me...I'm an American! :P

These are all shows I'm actively watching. Would have put Castle in there, but Milly already used it and I didn't want to be influenced by her answers.

1 - Supernatural
2 - The Vampire Diaries
3 - Chicago Fire
4 - Arrow
5 - Parenthood

I actually made most of these caps a little while back and then forgot about them. Ooopsie! :P
Then [livejournal.com profile] strgazr04 mentioned the cap the banner below is made from & asked me about it and "Oh, yeah I've got that capped." LOL So here they are, along with a 2nd smaller set from another, similar promo.

Been trying to catch up on the last several episodes of The Vampire Diaries and heard this beautiful song at the end of 3x17. I'm a sucker for gorgeous harmonies and this song has them in spades.

This is an enchanting live version done in a stairwell. :)

A little update from my last post back in October.

Monday

Dancing With The Stars
-- It had a rocky start, but I'm pulling for either JR & Karina or Ricki & Derek to win.
Castle
-- Still lovin' the show. Sometimes I get irritated that they're not moving the Beckett/Castle romance along, but I'm trying to be patient.
Hawaii Five-O
-- Fun seeing Terry O'Quinn added to the cast as an occasional guest star. Meanwhile the bromance of Steve & Danno is turning epic! lol Their banter is perfection!
Terra Nova
-- It's still managing to hold my attention. I must admit, Terrance O'Mara is a big reason I keep watching.

Tuesday

New Girl
-- I'm still watching this, but half the time I'm wondering why. LOL I guess there's something about the quirky, crazy comedy that keeps bringing me back. Oh, and I do love how the guys are so protective of Jess even though they think she's kinda weird. :P
Parenthood
-- One of my favorite shows every single week. I go through so many emotions is just one hour of this show, usually ending with me in tears. The Bravermans own me heart and soul.

Wednesday

Survivor
-- I hope Ozzy doesn't screw things up. I'd like to see him win this one. Pulling for Dawn, too. She's a good gal.

Thursday

The Vampire Diaries
-- All the twists & turns this show takes keeps me coming back week after week and I love the characters!
The Secret Circle
-- I tried. I really did, but I've dropped this show. I got sick of the girls screaming over every little big bad they ran into and the dialog just left me feeling flat. It got so bad that I started to fall asleep. Always a bad sign.
Person Of Interest
-- So I'm trying to get into this show to fill the hole left by TSC. So far...meh. The first episode I watched wasn't too bad, but the last one? Ugh. It's like watching two robots run around. There's no moments of lightness or even a cracked smile. Not sure I'll be able to keep with this show.
Prime Suspect
-- Has been canceled by NBC. Boo! I've really been enjoying this gritty cop drama. I like Jane. She's one tough cookie, trying to prove herself amongst a squad full of males. I will miss this show. *sigh*

Friday

Supernatural
-- Do I even have to say I'm loving this season? I love them all. *g*
Fringe
-- Haven't even watched any of this season yet. *hides in shame*

Sunday

The Amazing Race
-- Of the teams that are left I'm really pulling for Andy & Tommy (these dude always have fun) and Bill & Cathi (yay for the older married couple!).

Thought I'd go through the list of TV shows I'm currently watching this season. :)

My TV viewing schedule... )

Gee, thanks CW. Brilliant decision you made there. SPN's return got delayed for nothing. NOTHING.

'Smallville' and 'Supernatural' bump: CW decision may backfire from Zap2it.com

By airing reruns of "The Vampire Diaries" and "Nikita" 2011 premieres on Friday, without the "Idol" competition, the network would give the episodes a better chance at being seen by the full audience. To TV insiders, the move did make sense -- you've got to make sure the cash cow is well-fed.

Here's the problem: that massive ratings dip that "The Vampire Diaries" and "Nikita" were expected to suffer didn't happen. Both series maintained viewership consistent with the first half of their seasons. Apparently, fans of The CW's Thursday lineup are die-hard enough to stick with their shows, even with the temptation of Steven Tyler and J.Lo on FOX.

In other words... they didn't really need to move "Smallville" and "Supernatural" after all.

Oh, and here's another great article about what this delay could cost: Spoilertv.com: Supernatural and Smallville - What The Delay Could Cost Them

So this whole thing was unnecessary. What you wanna bet the reruns of Nikita & TVD on Friday night didn't garner higher ratings either? What about all those Smallville & SPN fans who didn't hear about the switch and tuned in and were shocked to see something else on their TVs instead? They gotta be wondering what the hell happened when all the ads said the shows would be returning on the 28th.

I'm actually more pissed now than I was yesterday. It's still not about waiting an extra week, it's about the network making a stupid decision that could cost them and our shows a lot down the road.

I'm sure you've all heard the news by now about the CW postponing the returns of Smallville & Supernatural until Feb. 4th. I came home late to this news all over my flist. Haven't even gotten to catching up on Twitter, but from what I read on LJ it's been a firestorm over there, too.

Honestly, I'm not angry. Disappointed is more like it. Yes, I was looking forward to seeing the new episode. I've been missing the boys for weeks and the hiatus has really been long. On the other hand...it's only one more week, so....meh. Not a huge deal after a couple of months.

What upsets me is the CW waiting until practically the last minute to announce the change. Bad move network, BAD MOVE. I've read from one of my flisters who visited the set that the crew didn't even know about the postponement.

In the grand perspective of things, one more week isn't a big deal, but the way the CW did this is disrespectful to the fans of both shows. These are 2 of the biggest ratings winners of the network along with being 2 of the oldest shows. Not a good idea to piss off their fans in favor of bumping up the ratings for other shows. I don't even see what the point is of repeating The Vampire Diaries & Nikita especially on a night that is not their normal air day.

I'm also hearing about outraged fans, lots of irate posts & comments on the CW's forum, nasty tweets, etc. Btw, nothing against fans who have sent calm, respectful complaints to the network. I get people are angry, but honestly, the network isn't going to listen. They've made their decision and that's that. Threatening, belittling, and who knows what else is not going to change anything. They probably won't even see it. Like I said, the decision's been made. Time to move on and deal with the situation folks.

'Cause let's face it...TV network execs make stupid decisions all the time. This is just one of many and it won't be the last. Look how many good shows the networks never give a chance and just cancel or how many shows they move around so viewers have to guess where they'll show up next week.

We all know the CW will never give SPN the kind of love and devotion we fans will, so all we can do is what matters the most...keep watching SPN no matter what. Because it's ratings that the network cares about.

And on that note...

While I'm also a fan of The Vampire Diaries (not like SPN, but I do enjoy it a lot) I missed Thursday's eppy. Now I could go ahead and watch the rerun tonight, but you know what? I'm not going to. I'm going to boycott the CW tonight and watch TVD another way (yay for downloads *g*). Why should I support the network's stupid decision against SPN? If it's ratings for TVD & Nikita they seek so much, I'm sure not gonna help them. Gotta send a message to the network in a way they'll notice and ratings rule. Feel free to join me in my one time Friday night boycott.

So there you have it. Not angry, not really upset. I'm more disappointed and bummed out than anything else. Boo! CW. You suck! :(
